Antique Blue Courthouse Office Chair by Gunlocke Co.
This is an old Hammond. Indiana courthouse chair. At the time they were updating office furniture a family member came across it. it has been sitting in an extra bedroom. We have no use for it now. It is in very good condition for its age. no rips, tears or stains on it. however it does have a few light scratches on the legs. It has the manufacturers labels and markings on it. Mid-Century W.H. GUNLOCKE Modern Lounge CHAIR Walnut Wood danish eames retro
For sale is a mid century W.H. Gunlocke lounge chair that is made of Walnut with a cushioned seat. Label says cushion is 85% latex foam rubber. 10% synthetic foam and 5% cotton felt. Cover model is SM-919 and chair model is 1977USBR. Chair measurements 31" back height. 25 1/4" arm height, 19" seat height, 17 1/2" minimum width between arms, 18" seat from back to front edge. Chair comes from a trendy neighborhood in Minneapolis and is all original. I would say the condition is good. It looks nice from a distance, but if you inspect it up close it will need some polishing. The vinyl on the seat and backing is actually not that bad considering its decades old. There is a 1" surface split towards the front but on inspection it is not an actual tear, just the top layer of the vinyl is splitting. If you want to keep ... moreit original, it is still in pretty good shape. The side lateral support on the left has a 1/2" long by 1/8" chip out of it, but does not effect the integrity of the chair by any means. Other than this issue, I do not see any other real damage to it. I would highly recommend either refinishing or cleaning up the wood, there is nicks to it and the finish is becoming worn. Vintage W H Gunlocke Child's Solid Wood Desk and Chair
William H. Gunlocke acquired a vacant factory in Wayland. NY, in 1902 and opened the W. H. Gunlocke Chair Company. During the Depression, FDR enhanced the prestige of the company by choosing Gunlocke furniture for the White House. Eight US Presidents sat in Gunlocke chairs in the Oval Office. The company also produced desks and chairs for schools. This set was used in the 60s(and probably the 50s) in an elementary school in Tonawanda. NY. The desk measures 23" high, 24" wide and 18 1/2" deep. It has a hinged top with a slow closing mechanism and metal supports to prevent little fingers from getting smashed. There is storage inside and a pencil/pen groove on the top. The desk top can be used flat or angled. It is a sturdy, solid wood piece in very good condition. Still very usable in its present condition or could be re-covered. It is tight and sturdy. Approx 30" at the tallest by 21" front to back by 23" at the widest. Up for your consideration is this Excellent vintage Gunlocke Swivel Office Chair. This chair is a remarkable display of vintage office ware. And a classic example of retro design that continues to trump most current manufacturing standards. This item is made of solid hardwood, Walnut I believe, and it has a great patina to the wood. The other materials, leather and upholstery, are in Unbelievably near mint condition. There are no tears, cuts or holes in either the leather back or the upholstered seat. Up for auction. Very old W. H. Gunlocke adjustable swivel Walnut office chair. Very Machine age, heavy duty hardware, heavy chair. Still has the brass tag from"Fisher Body Division- GMC" Chair is solid and usable but needs some repairs. It is missing one of the rounded pieces of walnut that go between the legs(see photos) The bottom rail of the chairs back has a chip off it that has been taped on with electrical tape needs to be glued back on(see photos, piece is complete) And it is also missing one bolt that holds the wood chair back to the steel plate that attaches the back to the base of the chair(see photos) Back of the chair can be adjusted up and down and has two adjustments to recline and set angle of the back. This is a fantastic looking vintage W H Gunlocke office chair. It has the original W H Gunlocke label on the bottom of the seat still- see photos. The leather is has some wear from use and age but is still quite usable. The wood base has wear from use and age too but overall it is a very cool looking piece and is in the nicest condition of one of this model of chairs I have seen. It really is a great looking piece. We bring to auction these Solid Oak"Gunlocke" Armed"X" Frame Chairs. These chairs are a very comfortable seat. Price listed is for one(1) chair. This item measures H = W = D = Weight = lbs. Four(4) chairs are padded Fourteen(13) chairs are solid wood seating. These chairs were manufactured in November of 1969. The company is still in business. The process used in the making of these chairs was"Steam Bent Solid Oak Back" and Bent Seats with the legs made of hardwood dowel construction. The legs are solid oak legs which are twice as thick as some chairs are for support and sturdiness. These chairs are quite comfortable and will last a very long time. Some careful refinishing may be required. This vintage seating is a true marvel of workmanship and the company is still in business today. Vintage W.H. Gunlocke wooden Leather Swivel office chair Very Nice
Original tag on bottom reads. W.H. Gunlocke Chair Co. NO. 588-P. Finish W. F. Cover WHG 88. Chairs for your working comfort. Chair is on a swivel and has spring. Like back to it when you lean back in it. Has no rips or tears in leather. And wood is in good condition also. Caster are of plastic swivel caster. But the wheels themselves are pretty ate up an one castor comes out when Chair is lifted up. Not sure how old chair is but am pretty sure it's all original.
