I picked this up, literally, in pieces, along with the matching desk of the First National Bank(label removed) here in an Orlando garage sale. After research, I've identified this is a Jens Risom design. There is no label. I sold the desk that matched it, but saved this credenza to give to my refinisher to make perfect, because of the beautiful lines and legs of this piece. It has a perfect slide out tray for your componentry if you wish to put a cable box/dvr or receiver or turntable. It is finished on the back- everything was taken apart and refinished. New glides. Each indentation has some partial gel coating loss about the size of a dime because the screws from the upper shell were never taken out. Also there is some partial gel coating loss above the faded label. We have to mention all of it for the accuracy of the description. These issues could be improved greatly but we will leave it up to the new owner. The original patina is untouched. HISTORY: Up for auction is a vintage original 1st Year Production Eames Rope Edge ArmShell Rocker RAR with a Elephant Hide Gray color full rope edge shell on an original and rare zinc plated rocking base. This rocking chair was designed by Charles Eames and manufactured by the Herman Miller Furniture Company and Zenith Plastic Co in the 1950's. The shell is produced from fiberglass-reinforced plastic. Originally. The fiberglass was being used during the war by Zenith Plastics to reinforce plastic on airplane radar domes. This early shell is very light and translucent as it should be when compared to the thick and heavy shells that were produced later. In according to the Eames fiberglass standard shell colors catalogue this color was specified as EG(Elephant Hide Gray) This very 50's color is one of the rarest and therefore the most ... moredesirable colors of the Eames fiberglass shells. The rocker is known for it's comfort and durability. CONDITION REPORT: This rocking chair is in excellent. Near mint vintage condition. Every part of it is 100%25 original: the rope edge shell, the zinc plated metal strut base, the birch runners and all hardware. The fiberglass shell has no breaks or cracks of any kind, is clean, shows LOTS of FIBER. Each fiberglass shell was hand molded and as a result of it each shell has a unique and very special layout of the fiber pattern. The shell still retains it's original gleaming luster. Looks gorgeous! There are some small lines underneath the seat, most likely from storage. Nothing major but we have to mention this for the accuracy of the description. The Z is cast into the fiberglass of the chair with the expoxy that was used to mount the shockmounts. It is a factory mark that has fiberglass strands running through it. This is not a rope edge chair. The chair comes with the pictured. High quality aftermarket walnut dowel base. There are no cracks and the edge of the chair is in nice shape. Have 2 Herman Miller produced Eames Shell Chair Chairs probably from early sixties. Both chairs are being sold in As-Is condition. Found these beauties in the backyard of an old folks home. As you can see the fabric has faded due to sun and element exposure. However beyond that the chairs are in good condition. One chair is a bit more faded than the other and has a few scuff marks and one small tear at the seam on the lower right front seam. Feet are plastic. I was told they are not the original, but not sure if the dude was trying to swindle the chairs from me or not. I would like to keep these two chairs together as a set is always better than a single! With a quick reupholster job, these chairs will be amazing. Both are stamped with Herman Miller and a circle S(see picture) Should you have any questions holler at me!

We infinitely prefer the original fibreglass shells to the modern polypropylene versions. As the patina is so lovely and they wear so nicely- a very important consideration with a house full of kids! These chairs are in great. Lightly-used condition. I'm the 2nd owner. The first bought these from an local interior designer. The chairs have sticker on bottom from the interior design order stating"DCM" and has an order date of 2007. Having newer 2007 DCM chiars is nice because the rubber shock mounts are pliable and won't be brittle, like many of the vintage-era DCM chairs. One of the chairs has some very light scratches on it's back(shown in pictures) There are other tiny dings and a chip also shown in photos. Barely noticable. But I just want full disclosure, as I know some buyers/collectors are extremely picky. Vintage Eames Soft Pad office chair- Herman Miller
The soft pad chair is an American classic. Equally at home at an office desk or pulled up to a dining room table. It is a versatile icon of modern design. This chair is stamped 1989 on underside. It is in great condition for its age. In my opinion it is 7 out 10 condition. I'm not expert and have shown pictures and described it to the best of my ability. It has typical wear around edges of the seat. Its not pneumatic. Its height adustable by rotating. There is a control underneath for tension control for recline. This is a set of 4 upholstered side shell chairs that are in a rare Orange/Red vinyl material. These are super clean and all original with all the foot glides in place. The"H" Bases are really shiny. i have not found any chairs this clean in years.There is one chair that has a small hole but it is really hard to see and another small pin hole on another, very hard to even see and does not take away from the beautiful continuity of this set of 4 chairs. It's a mid century 2 seater sofa with attached table. I have only seen one similar to this one on eBay once over a year ago and it had orange seating fabric; a bit harder to stomach than this grey-blue and sold for around 9k. Herman Miller Shell Chair Fiberglass Vintage eames era classic Orange MidCentury
This is a vintage original Herman Miller fiberglass Shell chair in the beautiful classic orange color. The chair is in excellent original condition. The base on it is the stacking style which is great for storage and locks side by side to other stacking Shells. It has been bolted through. Which is stronger, to attach the top to the base, instead of the original adhering. The feet all appear to be the original white plastic ones and intact. The top surface is in good condition with a few dings and marks but nothing too serious. The back and bottom have a little bit of wear but again nothing too serious. These are all the flaws that I can notice at the moment if you are questioning anything ask and I will look into it. The pictures show the condition of the chairs well. Herman Miller Shell Chairs Pair Fiberglass Vintage eames era Cream Eggshell Tan
These are vintage original Herman Miller fiberglass Shell chairs in the beautiful classic cream or Eggshell or tan color. The chairs are in excellent original condition. The base on them are the standard base. The left chair seems to be missing the original front feet and has chrome replacements. They have been bolted through. Which is stronger, to attach the top to the base, instead of the original adhering. The right chair has all the original style plastic feet. The fronts of the fiberglass are in fairly good conditions with minor dings and marks. The right chair has some small pitting in the seat. Maybe from some one welding a bit close. You can see in one of the close up pictures,the pitting, otherwise its not very noticeable from a distance. The backs may have some small marks and dings but overall good. Eames Herman Miller Zinc Chair X-Base- Lounge Height Listed here is a vintage chair base for the Eames Zenith Shell Chair. It is the low/lounge height version and should work with most of the eames fiberglass shell chairs(except probably for the wide shock mount side chairs) The highest point of the base(front legs) is about 12 1/2" from the floor- the low point(rear legs) is about 10 1/4" Any questions. Please ask! The chair base shows wear consistent with age and use including surface oxidation/rust. There is also some residue and signs of wear on the chair legs as shown in the photo(s) The base does not come with any boot glides.
