The arm chair has carved knuckles on the cut out support arms, wide Chippendale splat back, cabriole legs with ball and claw feet and a solid H cross stretcher. They have one piece flared back legs. The finish is a dark reddish brown showing minor nicks and dings. The chairs have a white vinyl seat cover on them. These are slip seats which are easy to reupholster by wrapping the fabric around, stapling it and putting them back on.

Description: This listing is for a Very Fine English Chippendale Period Highly Figured Mahogany Slipper Foot Tilt Top Tea Table. Circa 1760. It features a single solid board top, hand planed carefully to create a perfect smooth surface. A glowing deep patina shines through the finish of the entire piece; truly the magesty of this piece is found in the way this wonderful finish brings all parts together. Hand carved fully original rails connect the top to the base, with four hand made screws that appear to be original, and two later replaced screws attaching the rails to the original top. A replaced brass catch on the underside of the table top functions fully to secure the table in a resting postion; the shape of the original ... morebrass catch was circular, still evident as an impression around the current catch. The pedestal tenons through the square base. With the letters"DL" still visible at the tenon and in photos below. These could possibly be a signature of the master craftsman who designed this table. The pedestal is carefully turned shaft ending in a carved urn design, then locking into the legs with tight dovetail joints. Heavily patinated cabriole legs curve down and terminate in simple oval slipper feet. This is a fine piece for any home. Working easily in so many scenarios within your home. In the upward tilted position, it is ideal to bring beauty to that empty corner or fill a long wall with two chairs on either side. It is functionally excellent in the down table position as a tea table or common side table, bringing elegance to any collection of furnishings. Cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in ball and claw feet. Item# 120109PTE08 This is a rather rare form. Carved in the manner of Frederick Hintz tables, though absent of any brass inlay noteworthy in his works. The top is octofoil in form, featuring eight shallow dish spaces circling a large central dish space. A table of this form would typically be used as a dinner table, not for tea due to the oversized nature of the dished valleys in the top. Formed from a single piece of mahogany, crafting something of this nature was exceedingly difficult and likewise exceedingly expensive in the 18th Century. A work of this nature would be found ... moreonly in the finest London homes. Evidence of how it was formed is still visible in the piece, as you carefully look at the centermost point of each circular form- note the scar where the craftsman anchored his lathe to shave the perfect circle with raised molding. Each dish space is flanked by fruit carvings, each unique and different from the next- note the incredible crispness of each fruit, the attention to even the smallest details leaving identification of each fruit relatively easy: cherries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and plums. The table twists freely a full three-hundred and sixty degrees on the birdcage mechanism. Formed of four columns that through-taper the top and bottom, between which the shaft of the pillar comes through and is locked on with an angular through-wedge. This wedge is easily removed, allowing the entire top to lift off of the pedestal. The pedestal shaft is turned and tapers broader towards the bottom, deep stop-fluting around the entire shaft. Three cabriole legs dovetail into the center of the pedestal, exposed from beneath and actually formed such that no three-way bracket was necessary to lock the legs permanently in place. The kn

The tray is raised up on three scroll form legs with applied leaf decoration on top. The tray has a handsome Chippendale style raised pie crust edge. The center of tray is monogrammed with MC in an elegant script. The tray is very well made and has good weight. Unfortunately we do not know who the maker is. It looks like the type of work that Howard& Company would have done or another one of the better American companies. The tray was made around the turn of the century. Perhaps as late as the 1920s or 1930s. The tray is marked Sterling on the underside. The underside of one of the feet is also marked with 346 In. American Chippendale Upholstered Back-Stool(Armless Side Chair) Late 18th Century. C. 1760-80 Item# 120011QQU24 This American Chippendale Antique Side Chair is a distinct variation from the typical side chair of the Chippendale Period. Was referred to by Charles Allen of Philadelphia as a" back-stool chair" in his 1774 advertisement; likewise. In other inventories and price lists of the period it is noted as"Chair Frame for Stuffing over back and seat with Marlborough feet" Developed due to a distinct demand for comfort in seating furniture, this chair is an excellent example of this form. They were commonly coupled with a matching foot stool. The serpentine of the crest is matched in the swell of the seat apron. The chair back and legs both canted to create a fine overall curvature when viewed from the side. The square ... moremarlborough front legs are bevelled on the inner-most corner, the back legs squared with a chamfered tapering beneath the stretcher. The legs are locked in place with a box stretcher, the medial stretcher dovetailed into either of the side stretchers. Recently upholstered. The covering is brand new and entirely fresh, soft a comfortable over the early(though not original) interior stuffing and webbing. It is sturdy and comfortable for daily regular use; still retaining a very early dry finish, this is a piece you will cherish in your collection for a lifetime. Similar examples can be found at Winterthur, including some interesting insight into how these chairs were used in the home- they are commonly seen as part of a parlor setting. Either opposing it's pair or across from a wingback arm chair, usually beside a small candlestand or tea table.
