The set is comprised of a single arm chair with five side chairs; the arms curve softly around the trapezoidal slip seat and curl into hand holds carved with acanthus foliage swirling around a single flower. The same designs are incorporated into the bold vasiform pierced splat. Three raised four pedal flowers over the open medallion center from which hang bellflowers. The red velvet upholstered seats are lovely, not the original covering but nicely mellowed and very attractive. They rest inside of molded frames and the chairs rest over plain square legs in the Marlborough form of the George III period. For anyone looking for a classical set of dining chairs with enough age to work flawlessly with a period interior. But built to be enjoyed and used without concern for damaging a period set of chairs, this is a perfect addition. They are sturdy and strong, very heavy with the solid mahogany construction and gorgeous with their deeply patinated rubbed mahogany surfaces. Teapot is 9" tall and 9" across spout to handle. The Creamer measures 5 1/2" wide and is 2 1/2" tall. The Sugar is 6 1/4" wide and 2 1/2" tall. Their condition is good. Pair of English Chippendale Gothic Carved 18th Century Antique Side Chairs
Pair of English Chippendale Gothic Carved Side Chairs Third Quarter of the 18th Century Item# 130006JNC13 This delightful pair of chairs were almost certainly crafted in England. A most attractive pair. They exhibit strong Gothic influence in the tastefully restrained carvings and splat form. Tenoned into the triple-humped crest rail, the single piece pierced splat is the statement of the chair- featuring an overall form that is indicative of the residual influence of the Queen Anne and George II Period, the splat depicts a row of spears with spade heads under inverted hearts formed in a complex swirl pattern that culminates in five tower-like formations that project into the splat. Along all prominent exposed edges of the chair, following the crest around the volute-ears, down the stiles and completed along the outer edges of the front legs, ... morea soft twisted-rope carving elevate the form significantly. The splat drops into a shoe. This inserted into cut rabbets in either stile and resting over the frame- note, the somewhat unusual use of rabbet cuts in the stiles has eliminated the need for nails or glue in the shoe treatment as is typical. The seat is trapezoidal in form, bowing outward in the front in conformity with the front seat rail. The interior of the chair frame is joined with replaced blocking, these probably added during the late 19th to early 20th Century. The chairs are stretched over a box-stretcher, the medial stretcher tenoning through both of the outer stretchers for a permanent and perfect joint. The overwhelming Gothic elements and shape of the splat would probably place this chair in the third quarter of the 18th Century. Possibly a bit earlier. While it is unfortunate that the front corners of one chair have been pieced out, this is an honest repair probably completed during the late 19th Century that has preserved the chairs for use and enjoyment for over a hundred years. This exquisite Bedroom set was imported from Italy and beautifully restored here. I purchased it in 2005 for $8995 plus tax.now I'm moving back to England and it won't fit in my home there. The set is Chippendale in style and is absolutely gorgeous. It consists of an ornate triple door armoire which has a full beveled mirror in the center, hanging rails and shelves on either side, it comes apart into 3 pieces for easy removals. The bed is set up to accomodate a Queen mattress, but I believe it can be adjusted to fit a king. The set has two marble topped bedside cabinets each has a drawer and cupboard under. One of the pieces of marble has been damaged in transit but can be easily fixed. English Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Chest of Drawers, 18th Century c. 1760
English Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Chest of Two over Three Drawers Late 18th Century c. 1760-80 Item# 120001LMM01 Crafted of solid mahogany using broad boards to construct the top and sides. Each two board construction with a very thin strip completing the back edge. An applied molded carved rim wraps around the perimeter of the projecting top. Two smaller drawers rest over three wide graduated drawers, each with entirely original bail pull brasses and very early(probably replaced) locks, being constructed of oak secondary woods hand dovetailed with a flat bottom beneath applied runners and nailed at the back with original rosehead nails. Each drawer features full length yellow pine dustboards between each drawer to protect the contents of each drawer from dust and dirt as the drawer moves in and out of the case- these also support each ... moredrawer, allowing for a smooth flowing motion in the case. The chest rests over four large bracket feet, each fully original with original blocking on all but one of the feet. The back is original and untouched. Constructed of four pine boards lined with original hand forged rosehead nails. The secondary pine triangle supporting the back feet dovetails into the feet, making them permanent and incredibly strong. This is a remarkably well preserved chest with originality in almost every facet of the case. It is incredibly dense and heavy. Built to last the test of time- attention was shown in every detail of the construction, allowing this chest to survive and thrive two hundred and fifty years later. It is an outstanding acquisition for any collector of 18th Century English Chippendale and a treasure that will be enjoyed in your home for many generations to come. American Chippendale Walnut Tall Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania c. 1770-90 Item# 130105FAH17 This is a Fine American Pennsylvania Chippendale Tall Chest. Circa the late 18th Century from 1770-90. It is a gorgeous antique chest of drawers crafted of solid walnut featuring a rectangle top crowned in a deep flaring cornice with three small drawers over a gallery of five graduated drawers flanked by fluted quarter-round columns on each corner, resting over original scroll cut ogee bracket feet. The top is dovetailed to the case behind the surrounding crown molding. The case sides are crafted of two solid walnut boards. Each with wonderful tight grains. Each of the three smaller drawers slide easily over full length dust boards, protecting the contents beneath them from saw dust and dirt as they move in and out. Some strengthening has been done ... moreto the interior around these drawers, several boards added to strengthen the structure- these additions have not resulted in any alteration of the case and can easily be reversed at a later date if desired. The five stacked graduated drawers are solid poplar with dovetail construction. Each with chamfered bottoms that rabbet into the sides with nailed back ends(some tacks along the back edge modern) Bail pull brass hardware and plain brass keyhole escutcheons line the face of the drawers. The back of the case is constructed of solid hand planed edge boards secured vertically to the case, these nailed in place with hand forged iron nails supplemented by scattered modern nails. The case dovetails into the bottom board, each hidden with the only evidence of hidden dovetails found in the score marks in the corners inside. Each foot is original, with curving and flowing ogee form supported by replaced interior blocking(note the variation in oxidization suggesting much thicker secondary blocking) The back feet supports dovetail to the back feet. A wonderfully well preserved antique chippendale mirror with the original looking glass with all of its crackle and blemishes. A few of the wooden blocks on the reverse have been replaced prior to our obtaining the piece along with some of the nails. Scribed in early ink on the reverse side top appears to be a price of $550 or it could be $50 d. The eagle is solidly attached and there are no visible repairs to this item. Measurements are 31.5 inches tall by 16.5 inches wide. This looking glass was obtained from a Vermont lifetime collector of antique mirrors. Offered at a very reasonable price.
