Featured is a beautiful Victorian corner chair in the Chippendale style. It has a lovely North wind carved design on the back crest and an old needlepoint seat. The finish I believe is the original one. I have owned it for 38 years and just dusted it never using wax or any chemicals on it. There is wear to the ball and claw feet where the finish is worn. MA CHIPPENDALE UPHOLSTERED SEAT SIDE CHAIR with a fully developed and scrolled carved crest with a highly developed and scrolled slat with squared legs and stretchers, Circa 1760-1780, all in a nice old and possibly original dry surface. 1700s Antique Chippendale Period Chair Hand Carved Back w/ Needlepoint Seat
This early chair is about 37 in. high. 20 ½ in. wide, and 20 in. deep overall. The seat height is about 18 in. with a width of 20 ½ in. and a 15 in. depth. Made from Mahogany it has 18th. Century construction details; pinned mortise and tenon joints and a dovetailed bottom stretcher. The decorative back shows refined carving with an overlapping design. Overall it is in good sturdy condition. Both front seat corners have small tight age cracks. The interior corner blocks show an old repair with screws, and the needlepoint and slip seat frame are old replacements. The old finish is good with small marks, scuffs and cracks(see photos) The legs have new metal glides or feet that can be removed on request. Which was started in 1890. Was the South’s leader in Authentic Colonial Reproduction furniture. In addition to the Biggs line ... morethey were also the exclusive makers of furniture for Independence Hall. Old Sturbridge Village and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. In 1975 the company was sold to the Kittinger Furniture Company. During the late 1970’s to early 1980’s the Biggs piece were still made in Richmond but became known as the“ Old Dominion” line under the Kittinger label. Later the factory was closed in Richmond and all the pieces were made in Buffalo. In 1990. Kittinger closed the Biggs’s craft house in Richmond and in 1992 went out of business completely. Kittinger was restarted in 1996. This Chippendale Wing Fireside Chair. Also known as the Chippendale Claw and Ball Wing Chair. Was reproduced from an original made circa 1750. This is an extra-large and comfortable chair with hand carved mahogany claw and ball front feet and thick angle back legs. The chair has a tight seat cushion covered in a solid coral velvet upholstery. I believe it was re-stored and re-upholstered in the 1970’s as the chair was no longer made by the late 1950’s.
