The swivel chair is well made and is solid as well as sturdy. The chair has no markings as to the maker or year. As I'm not an expert by any means I will describe the chair as I see it. I do not know the wood type. However it looks to be a hard wood with a medium color stain. The rounded back gives the chair a barrel back design. The chair is upholstered in a light pink floral fabric with a skirt giving the chair a Victorian flair. As this is an antique chair the fabric has faded over the years and shows normal wear for its age. However it is in good very condition for vintage. Please see photo's. This swivel barrel back chair would be a wonderful focal point in any room design. You will find many uses for this chair. Use it in the bathroom as a makeup vanity seat. Solid and mechanically sound with cushions being firm with no sagging. Pretty pastel ikat pattern on cushions with a tufted backside and the frame is a light grayish blue in color. This is a super example of a mid-century modern mixed materials chair that's so well suited for many styles of décor. The chair has wonderfully designed wrought iron frame. Wood slat back and wood arms and it swivels around as well. The seat is a great retro colored yellow material which I believe is vinyl. I have spent endless hours trying to research this piece and I believe its designer was Richard McCarthy(but cant be positive) who's designs seem to have association with Paul McCobb. So I know its from the era of McCobb. Please google Richard McCarthy chairs. The chair I believe may have been for a dining set but works well for many applications as a office, or just occasional accent chair. The similar pieces I have found to this say the wood is Ash but I have also seen others stating its oak, but it has great grain to the ... morewood and is extremely sturdy. This chair has had wood refinished in darker tones and it frame has been cleaned up and freshly repainted to its original black. The seat is as well in very nice condition, no rips, holes or tears has a every so small bit of paint right where seat meats frame that really isn't noticeable. The height of seat off floor is 18" The height of wood back off seat at tallest center point is 17" Its overall height from floor to tallest center point on wood back is 32" if you measure across center of round seat it measures 18" across and its widest point across center arm to arm at flair is 23 1/2" Please note that 4 screws hold seat onto base and it will be shipped in two pieces so you will have to put it back together with the 4 screws. Note which screws are placed where when putting them in as some are wood screws and others are threaded machine screws, as to not strip any of there holes. No signs of abuse. This chair would be stunning with competent professional refurbishing(reupholstery and base refinish) BASE: There is use-related wear to the base: typical. Scattered rubs, dings and scratches as well as significant wear to the front bottom edge. The base was refinished at some point long ago. Otherwise the base is in good condition with no damages and no other significant wear. No other apparent restorations. No other significant edge wear. No chips. Cracks, breaks. A competent professional furniture refinisher should be able to make the base look like new. UPHOLSTERY/ FRAME: This chair was reupholstered at some point long ago. The fabric on the back of the chair may be original. Although the upholstery is generally in good condition I assume you will want to have the chair reupholstered. Some light soiling to the upper back rest. Otherwise the upholstery is generally clean as found. No other soiling and no stains or discolorations. No pet. Cigarette or other unpleasant odors.
