This is a beautiful French Louis XVI arm chair that I believe is made of either Lacewood or Pearwood. I believe that this chair dates to about 1820-40 but could even be much earlier. This piece has had the fabric on the back removed to show the age of the chair and it is in very good all original condition and is a very nice example of a Louis XVI chair. This chair is in very good condition and ready to be covered in your choice of fabric. It will make a beautiful addition to any home. Chairs that are of this age and style usually sell for about $900.00 finished. I starting this piece out very reasonably affordable for such a great antique chair. The carvings on the arms and legs are just beautiful and very detailed. The upholstery that is on it now was the original. And as far as I can tell it has only been done once. The incredible patina ... moreof this chair, along with the lower seat height makes it look 18th century, but I can't be sure about that which is why I am dating it early 19thc. I have the original stuffing and all the brass studs that came out of the arms and back so that the originals can be used when it is recovered. The frame is pretty tight with just a little movement. But there are no breaks or replaced pieces on this chair. As I mentioned the surface is original and the patina just stunning. This is not some cheap reproduction. HISTORY: Up for auction is a vintage original Eames Herman Miller dining height chair(DAX) with molded fiberglass rope edge shell in Lemon Yellow color. The shell retains very rare Herman Miller label commonly referred as" half label" The shell rests on an early black x-rod base with Dome of Silence glides. The chair was designed by Charles Eames and manufactured by the Herman Miller Furniture Company and Summit Polymers Injection Molded Thermoplastics. Inc. in the late 1960's. The chair is known for it's comfort and durability. The shell is produced from fiberglass-reinforced plastic. Originally, the fiberglass was being used during the war by Zenith Plastics to reinforce plastic on airplane radar domes. In according to the Eames fiberglass standard shell colors catalogue, this color was specified as LY(Lemon Yellow) This ... moreshell has large shock mounts. This very 50's color is one of the most popular and desirable colors of the Eames fiberglass shells. CONDITION REPORT: This chair is in very good condition for its age. The shell clean. Shows LOTS of FIBER and still retains it's original gleaming luster. The color is still bright with no fading. The color in all close photos is the closest to the original color of the shell. Looks very good! The original gel coating is intact! The early large shock mounts are in good original condition, shows some straight base marks and have NOT been re-glued. The front shock mounts shows some slight"bleeding" which is very common issue for all early translucent shells of that period. Description: This listing is for a Fine American New England Chippendale Period Upholstered Arm Chair. Mahogany, probably Massachusetts circa 1765-75. It has a softly serpentine crest over a slightly backswept upholstered back. The stiles are full length of mahogany, stretching from the crest through the feet to create an incredibly strong frame, the legs being square, canted with chamfered interior corners. Both upholstered arms have a soft serpentine, curving outwards before joining the molded mahogany arm supports, flanking an upholstered seat stuffed over the square frame. Mahogany square legs are stretched with a box stretcher, the center bar tenoned into the side stretchers. The old finish is worn and full of character, ... morea deep wonderful patina glowing through the legs and stretcher. We have not removed the upholstery from the frame to examine the secondary woods beneath. This is a gorgeous chair for anyone with a passion for the Chippendale Period. I am 100 percent sure its Dunbar made, as it has a distinct style with the arm shape peaking at the backrest. I was informed by a Dunbar buyer that this chair was designed by Ray Zimmerman, and was catalog#6060, which dates it to 1960. So thanks to a fellow ebayer! It was made with latex foam over zig zag spings. And orange woven upholstery, that feels like hopsack wool. Size: 30.5 tall. X 25 wideset point, arm to arm, x 24 inches deep. Condition: The chair is as found. With no cleaning or restoration. Original latex foam is powder now. And shedding. The chair is with original material for your upholstery person to replicate the square pleat stitching. Original Tacks. But no tags are present. The material ... moreis stained on the backrest. It might clean up, if you desire the all original look, with new foam installed. Walnut wood on the frame is not scratched. But needs re-oiled or just cleaned. It came from an engineers estate. 18th Century American New England Windsor Sack Back Arm Chair 1780-1800
Original 18th Century Sack Back Windsor Arm Chair Probably New England Circa 1770-80 Woods: Hickory(arms. Crest rail, spindles) Maple(arm supports, legs and stretcher) Pine(seat) This is a wonderful early example of what has become known as a"sack back" windsor. It's origin is a bit difficult to ascertain without a provenance, but we would say New England. It was very well executed, the bowed crest with a soft curvature, flowing easily into the curved arm rail. Each spindle tenons through this crest rail, each with split-wedge tenon device hammered into the top of each to lock them into the crest. This split-wedge is replicated in all through-tenon joints in the chair. More uniquely, and as a testament to the attention shown by it's craftsman, each long spindle swells at the lower half in symmetry with it's opposing ... morespindle, then tapering impossibly thin at the top. Built to last, not a single spindle has been damaged or broken, despite the very thin profile of each.The arm rail has a soft upward slope, creating an overall backward leaning profile, allowing you to rest comfortably in a slightly reclined position as your arms rest naturally. Supporting each arm is a turned maple arm support, each turned with superior level of skill- if you are familiar with sack back examples, comparing the soft swelling and sharp turnings of the arm supports will certainly set this chair apart from its peers.The seat has a chiseled channel around the spindles, as typically found in this form, giving shape to the ovular shaped seat, formed carefully to allow comfort. This rests over four turned and tapered legs supported by an H-form stretcher, swollen at the medial and smooth along the edges. It has a nice splay to the legs, comfortable and stable while still being quite angular. The finish appears to have once been a rich black over red primer.
