This is a very nice example of a Charles Eames Herman Miller shell chair with a very rare Zenith mark. The Z is cast into the fiberglass of the chair with the expoxy that was used to mount the shockmounts. It is a factory mark that has fiberglass strands running through it. This is not a rope edge chair. The chair comes with the pictured. High quality aftermarket walnut dowel base. There are no cracks and the edge of the chair is in nice shape. It has great fiber definition and a very nice coloration. The base is included in this auction and the shell will ship in one package and the base, screws and washers will ship in a second box. Serious offers for the shell only are welcome from those who do not want the base. Antique New England Shaker Ladder Back Arm Chair W / Splint Seat
You are bidding on a Antique New England Shaker Ladder Back Arm C'hair with Splint Seat. The chair comes from a New England Shaker Community. I bought it at an estste sale and the family did not know which community it came from. The joints and slats are tight and chair is very sturdy for its age. The splint seat has two small holes. But is still useable. My family has sit in it the last two weeks and is very sturdy. On the underneath seat their are small areas of green paint. The chair has been stripped and refinished in a walnut stain. The slats and legs have some nicks and scratches from normal wear. The legs have 5 1/2" extensions to make chair taller which maded by the shakers. If I didn't tell you you wouldn't notice them. The extensions could easily be removed. English George III Chippendale Antique Arm Chair Third Quarter of the 18th Century. C. 1760-80 Item# 090009RRW13 This listing is for a English George III Period Chippendale Walnut Arm Chair with a Vasiform splat over square molded legs. Probably circa 1760-80. The chair has great character in the finish, deeply oxidized dings and abrasions from years of use covered in countless applications of beeswax for a glowing smooth surface throughout. It has seen much use, many repairs evident throughout the chair, including repairs to the vulnerable arm supports and pieced out back feet. However, repairs are very early and have oxidized to become part of the overall character of the chair. The yoke crest rail has a soft slope to it. A single piece with the stiles tenoned into it(repaired at both joints) over a bold vasiform solid splat, this joining ... moreinto the molded shoe over the back rail. The arms are wonderfully shaped. Employing the cyma-curve that so dominated architecture and furniture designs of the mid-to-late 18th Century, creating a comfortable arm rest over finely turned baluster arm supports. These flank the trapezoidal light green leather upholstered slip seat seat, which appears to be a mid 20th century replacement. Turning the chair upside down, you can see a nearly black level of oxidization. Both front legs are square with subtle molding at the outer corners, the back legs square and canted, all four locked in place with a box stretcher. This is a wonderful antique 18th Century arm chair. Ideal for a home with a Colonial decor. Not a piece for serious collectors due to the numerous repairs, it is a visually delightful work for enjoyment in the home. For sale is a good quality upholstered chair in a French style. Known as a Fauteuil. There are two available and this auction is for one only. You are bidding on a reproduction Gerritt Rietveld"Red and Blue" chair designed in 1918 during the De Stijl Movement. Original designed was by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld(1888– 1964) Architect and furniture designer. Born in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He started as a worker. Opening his own cabinet-making workshop in Utrecht in 1911. After studying architecture. He began to design his own furniture. Notably the‘red-and-blue’ chair(1918) exhibiting the rectilinear quality and use of color associated with the De Stijl movement. All dimensions match the original chair. The chair is at least 20 years old since I had it for at least that long. It has been well kept rarely sat on. All joints are solid. All colors are vibrant and solid not faded. There are some scuff and might need touch ups in certain areas(see pictures) I rather leave it up ... moreto the next owner to decide to restore to gallery quality. I am an architect and have been fan of this chair all of my life. It originally was designed to be in front of a black wall so it would give the impression that the chair was floating since the black lines would disappear in the background. Vintage Thonet Gull Wing Side Arm Chair Mid-Century Modern Molded Plywood
Great look and it is sound and solid but has been painted. It looks like a red primer first then brown on top.It was done many years ago as there is wear to the paint. Also there is a 1/16" deep by 1" wide by 5" long piece of veneer missing from the furniture grade plywood that this is made of. It is at the base of the one arm and it is common to have a problem there as the veneer wants to buckle when they steam form them in to place. It usually blisters and cracks there. If you are going to strip it and take it back to the original blonde finish you'll need to replace it with the natural plywood veneer strip. If you are going to repaint it you just paint over top. Fill it with wood filler or just patch it in with any veneer strip you can find. It sets very comfortable.
