Antique Upholstered Wooden Rocking Chair-Jacob & Josef Kohn-Vienna-late 1800s?
Offered is this antique upholstered wooden rocking chair made by Jacob and Josef Kohn. Father-and-son furniture manufacturers in Austria in the late 19th and early 20th century. The chair is approx. 28 3/4" high. 28 3/4" from front to back of the rocker and about 16 1/2" wide in the front. Two of the Kohn labels appear on the chair bottom(see photos) There is also another label but it looks as if it was handwritten and it is no longer legible. I do not know what kind of wood it is made from. The chair has two big problems. The biggest is that the left front leg has broken at the base. By the rocker. There was a screw holding it together here but it has come apart. The other problem is that the curved support underneath the back of the chair has cracked. So far it is still holding together. I don't know if these are"fatal" ... moreflaws– I am hoping someone with knowledge could repair these defects and have a beautiful chair. Otherwise. The chair is in good condition. The finish has some scrapes and scratches. Maybe a candidate for refinishing? The upholstery is in very good shape– just some slight fraying on the seat. I don't know if it is original or not. I am not sure exactly how old the chair is. The Kohns formed their partnership in 1867 but I am not sure how long the company lasted. I found references to their pieces from as late as the 1920s. I have the chair marked as"pickup only" because I am afraid in its current state it would not survive shipping. I have many other antique and vintage items listed on eBay as well. I don't know it's exact age, but I would guess it's atleast 60-70 years old. The finish is very rustic, a beautiful patina. It's been painted, but it was many years ago because the most of the paint is worn off. From what I can see, there are traces of red, green and white paint. It is in good condition for it's age. But it is missing a piece of wood between the rear legs. still very sturdy. It weighs about 6 lbs. and measures approximately 21" high on the back. 10" high to the seat section, 20" from back to front and 12.5" wide at the widest section of the seat. It has a chipped carved Art Nouveau design on the top(pic#2) It has nicely turned spindles. This dates to the 1890s to early 1900s. It still retains a partial original makers label(pic#5) Unfortunately I cannot make out the maker as not all the label is in place(H.L. Day*ons& Co. Chairs) It is solid. Sturdy and usable. Has typical squeaks when rocking but is solid. Probably restored 10-20 years ago or so. The seat has a re-glued center split(pic#4) No breaks or repairs on the arms, legs or spindles. It looks like at least one of the screws in the back was replaced. ANTIQUE VINTAGE COUCH/ROCKING CHAIR W/ORNATE CARVED GOOSE NECK ARMS
This is an antique vintage couch and matching rocker that has ornate carved goose neck arms. This set is presently upholstered in a burgandy textured material. There are no holes or rips in the material. The set has never been refinished. I believe that this is mahogany wood. The feet appear to be carved animal feet and the goose neck arms are rolled. The couch measures 36-inches in height and 80-inches in length. The seating area is 64-inches wide and 21 7/8-inches deep. As seen in the pictures. This antique sofa has three cushions. The center arch is ornately carved. This set dates to the 1900-1950 age. The carved, curved backrest flows into the arms and slanting surface of the sofa. Both pieces show wear in the wooden frames, as seen in the pictures. This set has been in the same family for a number of years.

These chairs are becoming really hard to find due to the low numbers that were produced and the market is soaring in the eastern seaboard states. Made by Simmons Company 230 Park Avenue New York. Boston rocking chairs are a variation on the traditional Windsor style. New Englanders began producing the chairs during the mid-19th century. Antique Wisconsin Chair Company Glider Rocker Rocking Chair
Up for bid is an antique wood glider rocker. This was made by the Wisconsin Chair Company. As shown by a sticker on the base of the chair. With my research. I can only tell that this chair was manufactured before 1954, when the Wisconsin Chair Co. stopped making chairs. I do not think it is as old as 1890s as this exact style was not in a catalog that I found online. I have included a few pictures of the PAT marking on the glider mechanism in case that helps you date the chair. This glider chair is in usable condition. But will need some refurbishing. You can sit in it and it glides just fine. I would suggest that the chair joints be screwed together more and some wood glue followed by clamping in a few places. Listing tonight is a great estate sale find. A splendid Solid quarter sawn oak child's/ young adult rocking chair in great shape. It features nice simple turnings and nice lines. The top crest offers much comfort to rest your head and no arms make it perfect for small spaces and wrapping a blanket over your knees to read a good book. The rockers are in great shape and the seat was replaced with a hand tooled i believe leather cover with tack heads many years ago.
