The table and 1arm chair and 5 side chairs are all wood and upholstery. Not sure of the wood type. No manufacturer name. Beautifully carved. Table is 54 long without leaves x 42 wide x 30 high. Each of two leaves is 12 wide extending it to a generous 78 inches long. Arm chair is 40 inches high at back. Seat 20 wide x 17 deep. Side chairs 40 in high at back, seats 17 1/2 wide x 15 deep. All seat heights 18 inches. I'm not an antiques dealer. This is a family heirloom from my Grandparents home. I am the second owner. I wish I knew more about it. Vintage/Antique? Victorian Dining Table and Six(6) Chairs- needs work
Vintage/Antique Victorian Dining Table and Six(6) Chairs- needs work This dining set belonged to my mother. But I would imagine that she purchased it at an antique auction at some point. She used it in her dining room for several years, but for the last one year it has been unused and in the barn. I do not know the age or history of the set, and I do not know for sure what kind of wood it is. I think it is oak. The six(6) chairs include five(5) side chairs and one(1) captain's chair with arms. The five chairs are 40" tall to the top of the back. 18" wide across the front of the chair, 15.5" wide across the back of the chair, and the seat is 18" deep. The captain's chair is 20.75" wide across the front and 17.5" across the back. Otherwise it is the same as the other chairs. All chairs need new upholstery ... moreand new seating but structurally are fairly sound. Decoratively they have some issues with the scroll work which I will attempt to describe. I have put paper numbers in the seats of the chairs to help me remember which ones are which. In one picture, I showed a close up of the top front of chair number six because it has the most damage of them all. It is missing some scroll work and the wood is faded out and dry with some separation of the veneer layers in the top of the back of the chair. None of the other chairs have this much scroll work missing and the condition of the wood on all the other chairs is in much better shape than this particular one. The captain's chair has a small amount of scroll work coming off. Chair#2 has some scroll work missing at the top front, a chip in the veneer at the top back, and a small amount of veneer separation. Some of the corners in back are a little scuffed up as well. Chair#3 has scroll work missing at the top, a chip in the veneer and a small chip on the side of the chair. Chair#4 has some scroll work missing and a chip in the veneer at the top back of the chair. Chair# 5 just has some scroll work missing. Again, none of the chairs

The overall condition of this set is very good. THE ONLY ISSUE I SEE IS ONE SPINDLE ON ONE CHAIR. UNDERNEATH IS CRACKED-IDENTIFIED BY THE PIECE OF TAPE. IT COULD BE REPAIRED EASILY, AS IT IS A LENGTHWISE CRACK AND FITS TOGETHER VERY WELL. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE. I do not know the maker or exact date this set was made. Offered here are the remaining 5 chairs from a large set of antique American Empire dining chairs. The chairs retain their original Roman numeral markings on the front inside of the seat support. This was a large and elegant set of chairs. Made, possibly in New York state, ca. 1830- 1850. These chairs are strong, sturdy and are ready to use. They measure 32" high. The seats are 18" high. Each seat measures 14" deep by 18" wide across the front. Each slip seat has been upholstered with needlepoint, which I would guess to be from the 1950s. The needlepoint background is a medium mocha or beige color, while the floral center motifs are each a different, but coordinating pattern of flowers. These seats are in very good antique condition showing no stains or rips. The old-line Los Angeles interior design firm of Cannell& Chaffin was a high end. High quality furniture company that opened its doors in 1917. Founders. Samuel Bartley Cannell(owner/president) and George Chaffin sold these beautiful chairs to their client William Randolph Hearst for a project he called" La Casa Grande" known to everyone else as Hearst Castle. These chairs were used in Hearst's personal dining room. The chairs date back between 1927-1932. The chairs were given to a"then" maintenance company employee. Who kept the chairs until his death in 2010, at which time, I inherited them. Made of fruit wood. Doweled wood pegs(as seen in photos) and ... moregreat detail to the carving. Each chair is in extremely good condition. There is absolutely no give in the wood, no wobble, breaks, or cracks. The wood does NOT need to be refinished. They came in on trade as the customers purchased a beautiful set of turn of the century press back chairs. They said they have had them in their home for a while. They were a lighter color so they have been tinted. Sprayed and tightened up. The set consists of two better than average arm chairs and six side chairs. The wood is solid mahogany. The seats are done in a beautiful period style floral fabric with stripes. Let the pictures do the looking, but they are all tight and sturdy. They are fancier than normal with a drape of the shield going around the fancy carved back, which would remind you of a Prince of Wales style chairs. The legs are Hepplewhite, raised panel grooved and have little rosettes in them. The front skirt is serpentine and solid mahogany. The chair legs are carved down on all four legs and go down into a pronounced Hepplewhite block foot bottom. This set of five(four armless and one arm) antique barley twist chairs are a stunning and beautiful find. They would be a wonderful addition to any dining room or breakfast area. Made from solid oak. The hand carvings on these antique dining chairs are exquisitely detailed. Each chair is detailed with a diamond shaped carved pattern across the top ... moreof the back rest. Barley twist back rest supports and front stretchers complete the look. Complimenting turned front legs and gently shaped arm rests provide even more detail to the dining chairs. Overall a very beautiful design! These dining chairs were made in England sometime around 1920. Probably commissioned for a wealthy family or estate and then passed down from there. We acquired them near Oxford. The previous owners have taken very good care of these chairs as is evident by the current excellent condition. We have chosen an“excellent” condition rating for these chairs. They are very sturdy and strong and have no wobbles or looseness to them. The barley twist stretchers at the bottom ensure the chairs will stay sturdy for years to come. There are no major breaks or repairs. The upholstery has recently been changed out and is in very good shape and can easily be changed. The chairs do exhibit minor distressing marks in the form of tiny marks throughout that we consider character expected from chairs of this age. Description of item for sale: This matching set of ten Italian Renaissance Revival chairs plus 2 armchairs dates to the early 1900's. This is a premium quality set of generously sized. Comfortable chairs in excellent condition. The walnut chairs/frames are original but the fabric is certainly much newer. The frames are made of solid walnut stained a warm dark honey color. The frames are very tight and solid-not wobbly at all. The fabric on all of the chairs is in excellent condition: it looks like it was redone recently and barely used. Note that we pulled back the new dust cover on one ot the undersides to show the old style springs and burlap strapping(photo) Dimensions for the side chairs: 42” high to the top of the back, 21.5" high to the seat, 19.5” wide, 22” deep(front to back at the seat) Dimensions for the armchairs: 48" ... moretall, 21.5" high to the seat, 25" wide and 29" deep.
