I am the 2nd owner of this nice vintage dining room set-I bought it from the estate of a lady that purchased it new in 1929. Original tags still attached-reads-made by Bernhardt Furniture Co. Lenoir, North Carolina-the underside of the table is also stamped: Oval Table-Cherry-29-etc. Made of Cherry wood-medium, chestnut brown stain allows for much of the grain in the wood to show. Set consisted of table with removable center piece-5 regular chairs and one captain's chair with arms-hutch and buffet. I bought these 20 years ago and now am getting different furniture. I had the seats professionally reupholstered long ago to match my decor(olive green/goldish print)I have always kept seat pads on the chairs when in use-so the seats are in great condition. Overall very nice condition-normal wear for being 84 years old. Some things I would mention are that the wood color of the center piece section is darker than the rest of the table, it was like that when I bought it-possible meant for contrast or maybe because it was stored out of the light)also a slice of the corner wood has broken off as can be seen the the picture-back rt corner of section. Also-a bit of wood had chipped off the top corner of the table leg(tiny but I mention it to be exact-not seen from the top) The legs screw off with attachment bolts to remove them for storage. Also, one chair missing a decorative wood curve on front leg-shown in pic. Also- scratch on table top-6" and 1 1/2"shown in last pic-could be buffed/polished-I leave that to the new owner-totally useable as is. If I missed something-please ask. Crafted of solid mahogany with utmost precision. Each chair is crested by an anthemion carved form with upward flared carved ears, the stiles tenoned and pegged into the crest at each ear. The pierced vasiform splat is a work of art, the loose design of flowing acanthus foliage surrounding a tiny bellflower raised carving at the center of the splat, this tenoned into the crest rail in three places and based inside of the solid shoe. Caned dining chairs, antique, oak, set of 6 chairs
This is a set of 6 caned chairs. They are hand me downs that my husband and I have been using as our kitchen chairs until we recently bought new furniture. We are not into antiques and so I don't know much about these chairs. I think they are oak. And they do look pretty old. They are very solid and sturdy. 4 of the chairs look like the last picture(need to be re-caned) and 2 of them are like the first picture, where the seat is completely intact. They have been all tightened up and someone seems to have recently recovered them so the upholstery is in really good condition. They are in a dark reddish-brown stain finish, with only minor nicks and dings. I replaced the original tapestry when I bought it because it was in bad shape. There are no cracks or broken chairs. I think the table and chairs are made of cherry wood, but I am not 100% sure.
