Very Rare Salesman Sample WALNUT STEP BACK CUPBOARD from the late 1880's
This is a very rare Salesman Sample Walnut STEPBACK CUPBOARD with original glass. This is a great piece of furniture and we are very hopeful that this piece can be added to a collection or display as it deserves. The piece is in excellent condition and is a beauty. Take a look at the photos and you will see for yourself. This was made by a fine craftsman as you can see by the wood detail carving at the top. This Cupboard measures 34.5" High X 19" W and 9.25" D This piece was made in the late 1880's and is typical of many furniture companies in that period which sent out small replicas of their furniture for salesmen to go door to door and sell.

Antique Primitive Farm Hutch Step-back Cupboard - Chic Shabby
This hand made primitive antique step-back cupboard/hutch has it's original paint. The exterior is light blue with natural multicolored crackling. The interior of the top of the hutch is painted yellow. The insides of the top doors are painted green. It has it's original antique hardware. The work surface and back splash are covered with a type of linoleum which was used for counter tops in the early 1900's; this is green with a swirl pattern. There is a metal edge around the counter top. There are two full sized pull-out cutting boards above the drawers. This is not a reproduction. It is approximately 7 feet tall. 3 feet wide and 18" deep.

FABULOUS BUCKS COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA STEP BACK HUTCH WITH THE ORIGINAL INTERIOR PAINT. A STUNNING PIECE THAT ALWAYS TURNS HEADS! This was purchased in Bucks county in 1980 for the then princely sum of $2000. We then took it to a professional cabinet maker. Antique restorer to have it raised to its original height. This majestic piece will fit into an 8' ceiling. Step back hutches were cut down by the hundreds in order to fit them into modern homes with lower ceilings. This practice prevented use of the area under the top as a serving area. It is much more elegant and serviceable the way it was intended and is now. The dovetailed joints are proof of its age. Original wood knobs. Often a piece like this is a"marriage" in that the top and bottom came from 2 different hutches; not so here. This practical country cupboard is a product of early America. Possibly Pennsylvania, having been crafted in the last half of the 19th century. A solid, one piece cabinet, constructed in Pine with a shaped cornice. The upper section is set back, commonly referred to as a stepback, with three shelves behind paneled doors over a large horizontal working surface. With a paneled back. The lower section one shelf behind two paneled doors. Overall. The condition is good. With the expected indentations, scrapes, and other minor cosmetic defects that are associated with antique pine pieces. The construction is solid and the joints are tight. Very Rare Salesman Sample OAK STEP BACK CUPBOARD from the late 1880's
You are bidding on one of the finest salesman's sample oak step back cupboards I have seen in my 28 years in the antique business. This cabinet came from a multi generation estate in Nashville. TN. The top and bottom doors have locks( sorry no key) and the top doors still have the original wavy glass. The shelves are original and are pine with an oak strip on the front edge, as would have been done on a full size cupboard. It has applied trim on the sides that forms a picture frame effect on both the top and bottom sections of the cabinet. The trim and gallery around the top are formed from multiple different pieces of trim( there is one spindle missing and some glue that shows from some repairs in the gallery that would not be hard to clean off) It has pine boards in the back and a pine board on the bottom that is dovetailed into the ... moresides as pictured. There is a piece of trim cracked off on the bottom of one side as pictured. The finish appears to be original and is in very good condition. The base section is 20 5/8" wide x 10 1/8" deep x 12" high, the top section is 20" wide x 6" deep, the trim and gallery at the top are 21 3/4" wide and the cabinet is 36" tall overall. This cabinet would be a rare and great addition to any home or collection.

Feet are dovetailed. Hand forged lock on the base and door catch on the top. Hand chamfered on back. Door panels, and drawer bottoms. Drawer slides have been replaced. There are 2 rectangular holes in the top of the base-not sure why they are there but are mostly hidden when top is in place. Some age appropriate minor paint loss. But one that would be best suited to individuals about two feet in height. Perhaps it was built to entertain dolls or children, but the item was culled from a collection of'salesman's samples' scale models, trotted out by traveling salespersons of a bygone era) used to demonstrate to potential customers what furnishings are available for order. Note the carefully hand-cut dovetailed and mitered joints, wide board back and other construction details true to the bench-made techniques of the era.
