There is a latch for each drawer, but just one catch works. The other is missing the slide and white handle. I might find one to replace it. Circa 1900 Mahogany Green leather inlaid steps Sturdy and strong Minor surface wear, Here is a very hard to find set of antique library steps. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid mahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Each step is covered in gorgeous green leather. A beautiful and interesting addition to any home or office. The turned mahogany balance pole is capped with a brass top. Have Questions? Revealing the interior, which is about 52” from side to side and 13” deep and 52” tall. We have added two 1 ½” thick heavy duty pine shelves, which are completely adjustable and will hold a lot of weight. The shelves were aged to look old and will not stand out. The front doors are covered with gathered French country style fabric, which can be removed so that you can see the interior through the glass. The lock is in working condition, complete with the key. The bibliotheque measures about 59” at the widest point and about 20 ¾” deep. It stands up about 63 ½” tall and the top surface can be used as a shelf, displaying collectable items. Very heavy, solid and well built item. We were using it in our office for files and fabric samplers and it is hard to find a bookcase which will fit oversized files and provide such great access as this item does. Additional storage is found below the desk area consisting of an area with a ornate door measuring 20" x 14 1\2" deep. The drawer below this storage area measures 2" x 14 1\2" deep x 5" High. To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The ornate carvings on the front of the fold-down desk and upper glass door appear Victorian. Work is needed for refinishing this piece to bring it back to its original ... morebeauty. This is a turn of the century 3 pc. bedroom suite. It's a beautiful quarter sawn Tiger Oak. The mirrors are beveled. Each piece is extremely heavy. The dresser is on original rollers. The bed is a standard full size. This suite was purchased from an antique dealer from Texas approximately 23 years ago. I can provide more pictures at your email request. Thank you for looking. Pair it up with a few columns of the same wood and grain patterns and make it back into a mantel. Leave it as is. Oak Roll Top Office Desk by Northwestern Furniture Company. Milwaukee, WI: I'm not sure what era this comes from. But it appears to be older. It has a metal locking plate attached to the bottom of the rolltop that is labeled"Northwestern Furniture Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The metal plate that attaches to the desk surface is missing, as is the key, so currently, the rolltop can not be locked in place. The desk measures 5' long. 2'6" deep, 3'6.25" tall in the back, and 2'6" tall at the height of the desk. The top surface area of the desk, above the rolltop is 5' long by 11" wide. The flat desk surface area is 4'6.25" wide by 2'0.25" deep. There is a center drawer that measures 24-3/8" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 2" deep. Each of the three drawers on ... morethe left side, and the top drawer on the right side are 11.25" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 4.25" deep. The bottom file drawer on the right side is 11.25" wide, 22.75" front to back, and 10" deep. There are two flat oak writing shelves on the top of each side of drawers that pull out. The shelving underneath the rolltop portion, from the left, consists of two shelves underwhich is a drawer, three alternating open shelves with three drawers, and two sets of two open shelves with a drawer beneath each of them. There are also two pen/pencil holders near the middle, below the shelves/drawers. Overall. This desk is in nice condition, but does have some imperfections to mention. It appears that it has been refinished at some point in a satin finish polyurethane. Although it presents itself very well, it isn't perfect and does have a few small nicks/scratches in the surface, but none that are very bad. There is no structural damage and it is sturdy in place.
