Circa 1900 Mahogany Green leather inlaid steps Sturdy and strong Minor surface wear, Here is a very hard to find set of antique library steps. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid mahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Fall front reveals small draws. Compartments etc for stationery, papers etc. Leather on the writing surface is worn, has some crinkles but is in generally good condition. wooden uprights inside glass cabinet are not part of the piece. They are only there to prevent any sagging from the weight of the books, which are not included. Shelves in underneath section have minor bowing in them. But in the photos, there is some old vinyl lining the shelfs. The vinyl has bowed, and the timber remains relatively straight. The photos are deceptive. The doors have glass to the top, giving good visibility to books or precious treasures.The lower closed sections of the doors have beautifully carved central panels, the deep carving featuring vases, flowers and foliage. The interior has four(4) fully adjustable shelves, as well as the base of the cabinet, and more shelving could be added for greater storage. There are also two drawers to the base, again with tasteful carving and fittings. Whilst there is a key in the lock, the lock is not working and the key is used only for ease of opening the door. The piece sits on squat bun feet. This gorgeous piece is 209.5cm in height. 152cm at the widest point across the pelmet which extends far wider than the body of the bookcase, which measures approximately 130cm. Made from solid oak this lovely piece is hugely multi-functional and will work in any room you need storage in. A single door armoire with turned and reeded column supports to either ... moreside of the mirror door. There is a drawer underneath with a slide to keep out dust. And four(4) adjustable shelves inside with another drawer under one of the shelves. The finish is original and a good mid-brown colour with a lovely mellow patina which has developed over many years of loving use. There is a twin bolt lock which is still operable. This is a tall armoire with a height of 226cm(just under 8 foot) and is 107cm in width. The armoire is 57cm deep. The interior shelves each measure 96cm in length and are 38cm deep. This armoire is in good condition and the only issue is some spotting to the mirror. Which is so"in" today. It is possible that the back of the mirror has been replaced at some stage during its lifetime of approximately 115 years. However, age-appropriate wear and character marks should be expected. The two drawers are also curved with carving that matches the top pediment. The upper section. With two glass panels in the doors is narrower than the base, and supported by turned carved supports. This French Oak 2 Height Cabinet has been well loved and used constantly, thus accounting for the lovely glow from the aged patina. This cabinet offers good storage having a central shelf to the base and also the the upper section. With an open area for display on the top of the lower section. The two pieces are detachable for ease of transport. There are no major condition issues. However. There are some small details to consider, such as some staining and marks to the top of the lower cabinet. The hardware on the drawers has been replaced and one of the escutcheon panels is missing from the top door. As the photos indicate there are some missing pieces to the turned supports.
