We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful and unusual legal size oak file cabinet that dates from the turn of the century(1900’s) ... moreIt was made by the Library Bureau Sole Makers as indicated on the cast brass id tag that is on the cabinet. This is one of the few cabinets that come through finished all the way around so that you can leave it out in the middle of the room to made admired from all angles. This cabinet has been all completed refinished. Which means it has been all stripped, sanded, stained, multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer and the brass has been rubbed and reinstalled. The unusual thing about this file cabinet, besides that it is legal size, is that the top drawer is set up for index cards in the old days, but now they use it for a portfolio drawer. It is wide open in the center if you take the three rods out to make a portfolio drawer. The knobs on the top drawer are different than the ones on the bottom drawers as they are always missing, but we put them back in even though we take the rods out. We leave the knobs in the front to simulate that they are there, because that seems to be the way the customers like it. The 8 drawers have the original maroon painted metal bottoms with the super nice copper colored sliding dividers(see photos) There are no cracks. Splits, or gouges to any of the cabinet or drawers. There are 2 tiny tack nails missing from the metal drawer pulls. No key but the complete original locking mechanism is intact in back of the bottom right drawer. Description This is an antique oak library file cabinet. It is probably 1910 in age and made by the Library Bureau Sole Maker. It measures 61.5 inches in height. 41.5 inches wide in front and 17.5 inches in depth. There are many drawers, some have the wood bookened support inside, but all are missing the metal rods to hold the file cards. It will fit cards that are 5x3.25 inches. It is in excellent condition and all original. The finish is very clean and original. It is a good looking clean golden oak file cabinet. This is a really great quartered quarter sawn oak file cabinet. Sort of a map case but with drawers that are not as wide. 13 drawers in all in two different sizes. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth and even finish. Note the original fancy iron pulls and also that the cabinet has a'pull-out' which is quite nice. Incised front and multi paneled on the sides. The interior of the drawers are 19.75 wide and 17.5 deep. The short drawers are 2.5 high and the two taller drawers are 5.5 high. This is a Antique Large 8 Drawer Golden Oak Library Bureau Sole Makers File Cabinet. The exterior is very nice. The interior has nicks and scratch from years of use. It is in overall very nice condition. Though the retaining knobs and rods the hold files in place are missing and one of the little brass category frames that are just above the handle. As well as two if the wood backing plates for the files I have included photo of the replacement piece that is being used. This is a matching eight drawer cabinet so it is quite heavy. I am guessing about 175 pounds? It measures 32.5" wide 27" deep and 52" tall. I can strap it to a pallet and have it shipped. Picattiny Arsenal, it was founded in the 1800's and used for military gun powder and ammunition storage during WWI& WWII. After WWII it became a research and development place for the military. Nice for a smaller spot, the file and pedestal all in one. It appears it was gray like on top but really could use a bath. Certainly shabby in nature which has a nice look. The bent thing on the side will not be easy to bend back, it looks like it held some sort of tools or possible rubber stamps One piece of trim bent on the back file which is nothing.One drawer handle coming up a little on one end but it's not going anyplace, it's welded on and works fine. Antique Mission era oak card catalog. It is probably Weis. This is a 2 piece stacking unit. More pieces could probably be added. It has great patina with a dark oak finish. It would be lovely refinished. The cards drawers are wood and slide easily with no breaks. The unit does show some age cracks on the side and is actually missing some wood- see pictures. Massive piece that will need to be picked up. Only other possibility is a mover but I can't arrange it nor take responsibility after removed. An amazing old library card catalog system. Beyond heavy solid and decorative. A collectible and functional. An era which is coming to an end so soon a piece of history or the past. They are becoming hard to find so if you love collectibles reminding you of a life from the past or a library. Reader lover then this is a must have worth the hard part of moving it. I would say it is almost all original and intact. I know there are a few card slits missing and maybe a knob or 2 replaced or missing. It was bought a few years ago from a sale. Put in storage and now just brought to my garage. The wood is solid and pretty. Oak It is hard to move but on legs with rollers. Slide out tray desk tops and again ... moreinsanely large. Antique Office Tiger Oak Globe Sectional Legal File Cabinet Index Card Section
I have up for sale a very hard to find antique/ vintage GLOBE WERNICKE quarter sawn oak stacking/ sectional file cabinet unit with top section. Not sure what this section was originally used on but believe that it was for a legal file/ filing cabinet. It measures approx 41-1/2" long and approx 13" deep. The underside is shown in one of my pics. Please make sure if you purchase this unit- that it will fit or work with what ever it is that you intend to use it on. This is your responsibility-and if you have questions please inquire prior to purchase. I do not want you to buy this and then be unhappy because you did not do your home work and figure out if it will work for your needs. The reason that I say this is- this is a larger- longer section than I normally see and I am not completely sure what it originally fit onto.Obviously ... moreit went on a Globe Wernicke stacking unit- but what I am not sure of- can it fit on various type of stackers or just a single type of sectional unit. Personally I have never seen this exact unit before and I have dealt for a long time. Globe made a myriad of different office and filing related type cabinets but this combination and length is one that I have not seen. The opening for the bottom where this section would fit onto another section is approx 41" long by 7-1/2" deep. Vintage Amberg Letter File Cabinet Index No. 103 T. 3 drawers with 2 labels bills and letters top drawer has no note for drawer. Original hardware on drawers with Amberg patent Sept. 24 1878 on all of them. Drawers are dovetailed and have appeared to have been stained at some time but not entire cabinet. Both sides and back panels are buckling. Top has usual wear with stains and front nails in top show slight crack. Bills drawer shows the most wear. Letters is better, and top looks the best with some letters missing on the paper. Tambour roll shutter door opens and closes sometimes needs a little help but is functional. No key for lock. Inside folder on drawers reads Ambergs Patent Indexicon U.S. Patent Office 1875. Large Antique 60 Drawer Apothecary Flat File Cabinet
I believe this is a 19th century piece. I got it from a locksmith that used it as a parts cabinet in his shop. He told me that he acquired it in the 1950's at the closing of a drug store in Chicago that had been open since before the turn of the century. The locksmith modified the open back file trays by adding a back and turning them into'drawers' he also painted the face brown and the sides blue. Drawer backs can easily be removed and is an excellent piece for restoration. Unfortunately there is one drawer missing. You don't find these every day. Local pick up only. Large. Solid wood, and heavy. Located in 55116. Cabinet measures 56" wide x 69" tall x 21" deep. Drawers measure 12 3/4" wide x 3 1/2" high.
