This rare showcase is in great used condition with all the copper present and in good condition- see photos. PA" The case is large- 36 inches wide by 24 inches deep and 36.5 inches tall- a includes two glass shelves(one is original, slightly thicker with 100 years of scratches; and the second is a newer plate glass replacement) The glass shelves have 5 original support points- one at each corner and at the back center. There are three glass sides and two glass paneled doors with locks and handles- I do not have the key to the old original locks. It has solid wood bottom and top. Oscar Wilde A Very Good Quality c.1890 Mahogany Shop Counter Display Cabinet by H.Mills Shop Fitter. London Period: Late Nineteenth Century Provenance: Unknown Date: c.1880-1900 Height: 30.25 inches Width: 26.75 inches Depth: 23.75 inches(at maximum) The heavy quality glazed five sided display cabinet with panelled& mirrored rear door under a moulded cornice. The whole with a further mirrored base having a velvet surround, the solid mahogany carcass enclosing two adjustable fitted glass shelves, with ivorine makers plaque to the lower moulded plinth base reading‘H.Mills- Shop Fitter… Street London E8? survives from an English shop front during the late nineteenth century. The original heavy plate mirror ... moreglass has a good amount of foxing but nothing of concern and decoratively she is splendid. There is a square of discolouration to the reverse where there was obviously a trade sign placed on it which has since been removed so the mahogany to this small section is of a different colour. The carcass in general has only a little movement. With one or two small hairline cracks. The mahogany is of a very good quality and has a super rich colour whilst the makers trade label is worn but three quarters of it is still decipherable. The two thick glass shelves are possibly later replacements but are good quality, with some losses to their corners. Overall the cabinet would be described as good to very good condition. H.Mills had a workshop in York Road in Northampton as well as in London. And became H.Mills& Sons Ltd later in their existence. This is one of their earlier pieces and would have been for a tobacconist or perhaps a gentleman’s tailors. Of a desirable size and of serious quality. This is shop display at its pinnacle. Absolutely one of the most beautiful showcases I’ve seen. And the only one of this type and size I’ve ever seen. It’s not perfect but for its age in my opinion it’s in outstanding condition(see photos) The showcase was made by Specialty Case Co of Kendallville. Ind. I’m guessing sometime in the 1920s. Antique Veeder Root 5 Digit Counter Working Industrial Hay Bailer Loom
I’m not sure what this old counter came off of. But from what little I was able to research I’ve been lead to believe that it was a hay bailer or a loom. It’s all metal with a blue paint job. The nameplate and trim are brass. It works fine, keeps in sync, and the reset lever turns all of the wheels simultaneously. It has general wear and tear. But doesn’t appear to have any significant damages. The case measures 3 ½ in. X 2 ½ in. X 2 ½ in. and the wheel that the belt sits on is about 2 ¼ in. in diameter. a Great pair of vintage soda fountain stools from the late 1900's or early 1900's. 1910 maybe. Like would be found in many of the small soda and drug stores of the era. Could also be for an old Bar if it fits your decor. Cast Iron hardware with Oak tops. I was going to use them but never did. Measures 22.5 and 21.5 inches high.Base is 6.5 inches wide Tops are 11.25 inches in diameter. There is a pin and insert for the top plate to go into the base. Slight wobble from use but good and could be shimmed up once fully restored. One top is missing some wood. I has intentions of restoring them. And how I would fix the top that is cracked is square up the one edge, glue in a new piece of matching wood, find the center and turn it on a drill press or lathe with the lathe tools to make the contour match. Up for auction is one rare and hard to find vintage HUGHES HAIR BRUSHES DRUG STORE or GENERAL STORE COUNTER DISPLAY. It is in extremely nice condition. It has a curved glass front and top and has two bowed plexi shelves. A mirrored bottom and two mirrored panels inside. The blue lettering on the front(HUGHES BRUSHES) is in excellent condition. I do not know the age of this piece, but I would guess it is pre 1940. It measures approximately 16" wide, 17 1/2" tall and 10" wide. I believe the wood is Pine. There are two tiny little chips in the front, on the top right- barely noticeable. I tried to get pictures the best I could. We used this display case when we were in the antiques business to display smalls. We added a part in the back, so it could be under lock and key. The back panel(the door) used to have mirror, but now there ... moreis black felt, for hanging small merchandise. This can easily be swapped out. They have a 2 1/2 inch wheel with a oiler hole on the bracket and will use a 1/2 inch diameter rope. Can be repurposed for almost anything.
