There is slight pull away of the dovetailing on the bottom, but I think you could probably carefully tap it back into place. The previous owner did a very slap-up job of putting a dark stain on it, so the finish is somewhat inconsistent, you can see the oak in places inside, and there are faint watermarks on top, but I honestly love the look and character of this piece, and it's completely solid and functional. All four metal sliders are still inside, though they are a little stiff/rusty. Measures about 16" x 13 1/2" x 9 1/2".

Each drawer has the 1892 and 1894 patent date on them.The Library Bureau Sole Makers Company was in business from the early 1880s to about 1925.I guess the library in the 1890s had to be the only gateway to the world and the hands that were in these drawers.Very nice old patina and there are a few issues but not major and easily addressed and fixable with low expense.There is a piece along the right rear back panel which is not really visible from the front.A couple drawers have some cracks and one has a piece of the rear panel gone but every issue is repairable and I have not altered or repaired anything so you are dealing with the original item.No screws or glue added but it could use some skill to keep it original.There was tape used on the exterior over the years and those are the shadows you see in the photographs.The shadow of the ring on the top was put there by the original librarian so I had a place to put my coffee cup.It is a really cool piece and soundly built.Another 100 years is no problem with this guy. This antique Arts& Crafts/mission-style card catalog is made of dark quartersawn oak and is sideboard height. With 36 drawers. It measures 41&3/4" wide, 16&7/8" deep, and 38" high. The wood has a beautiful grain pattern. I've cleaned other antique card catalogs with alcohol to remove the old shellac and then treated the wood with jojoba oil. But I never got around to doing so with this one, and I'm sure it will look even better once that's done. I did clean it with a natural spray cleaner when I first purchased it, but since then have only dusted it. As shown. It has typical scratches and wear, but considering its age I'd say this is in very good condition. All the drawers function properly, although as shown, four are replacements in a lighter-stained oak and of those two will need new hardware. ... moreThey fit perfectly, as they came from another antique card catalog from UNC's Wilson Library that was the same model and age. These lighter-stained drawers could of course be re-stained to match the others. Four brass divider knobs are missing. One of the drawers has an old inkstain at the back as shown in last photo. I've owned this for a couple of years and for some reason thought it was a Shaw Walker catalog, but I've forgotten why I assumed this, and ... moreI haven't been able to find any manufacturer's stickers or stencils. As shown. It has light scratches and wear and a few small dings here and there, but considering its age and use this is in very good condition. It was well cared for in its original home, UNC-Chapel Hill's Wilson Library, a special collections library mainly used by grad students and researchers, where food and drink are not allowed. All the drawers function properly and the insides are clean and have no significant wear. Four of the drawers are replacements with lighter-stained oak fronts. They do fit perfectly, as they came from another antique card catalog of the same model and approximate age. These replacement drawers had white stickers in each corner, as well as alligatored varnish. I removed the finish and scrubbed off the old stickers, then conditioned the wood with jojoba oil, but did not apply a new protective finish. If I'd had some on hand I would have used a natural beeswax/jojoba paste that I've used on other furniture with good results—the beeswax gives a hard protective finish to the wood. It was the second catalog I've ever bought and really is what got me into collecting these beautiful pieces of history. This item is perfect for an introductory piece. It is not nearly as large as some of the other pieces out there so it doesn't cause space issues. WC Heller has been around since 1891. They are an Ohio based furniture company that is still producing library furniture today. They are very well known amongst collectors due to their incredible craftsmanship. I am not certain the age of this piece and I have honestly never seen another one and. Believe me, I have looked. Each of the 18 drawers are stamped with the makers mark. Vintage, Antique Oak Library Card Catalog with 2 stacks & 4 Drawers C. 1912
Up for sale is a vintage library card catalog. It is a four drawer. Dovetailed oak, two piece stacking unit. The drawers are wood, and in excellent condition with their original brass pulls. All the drawers slide fairly easily, except for drawer L-Q which has some wear on the wood but it still works fine. The metal rods and card stop/supports are all there and work well. Supports are stamped Pat. June 25, 1912. The bottom stacking piece has some age cracks along the sides in addition to some scuffs and scratches. Paint spatters, and a few dings to the wood. The pictures show the worst age cracks where the wood is split in two places, but it is still solid and together. Dimensions of the two stacks combined is 13 3/8" wide. 10 1/4" tall, and 15" deep. Antique bin file from 1888. Stamped on top reading CHAS C CHAMBERLAIN IRON CLAD PATENTED 1888 There's also some writing on the too which I tried to highlight in the photos. I can't really make out what it reads except for"family letters" It's a really beautiful industrial style bin with a cute pull in the front. It also has a spot where you can fit a label. this is a very rare cabinet- so much so. For sale we have an antique oak card catalog by the Hamilton Manufacturing Company of Wisconsin. The card catalog features 45 drawers. 5 columns and 9 rows. Almost every single drawer has the original pull with the exception of 2 drawers. Almost all of the drawers still open as well with the exception of two of them. They seem to just be stuck and may need some wax applied to the sides. It appears to have been used at one point as storage for hardware and miscellaneous pieces.
