Probably crafted during the years of 1890-1910 during the height of the Rococo Revival period. It is a crisply executed piece. An overall breezy design, leveraging the play of the thin profile and tight formal lines against the bold and deep carvings along the hands and arms, it is a very successful presentation. The arms are molded, carved scales carefully layered along the top to culminate in carved acanthus handholds on all four corners, these are lifted on supports that flow in a single piece of wood from the handhold to the toe. Falling directly beneath each handhold is a floral display of bold and crisp execution, this flowing into a plain molded stile that squares at the frame, then turns and tapers in a stop-fluted leg terminating in a conical-ball foot. The apron is plain with the twisted ribbon molding wrapping around all sides, framing a tightly caned seat beneath a down-stuffed cushion(the cushion in poor condition) This is a simply gorgeous little antique window bench. So useful in design scenarios throughout the home. Whether it is featured beneath a large window, between a pair of windows with a large work of art hanging on the wall above it, at the foot of a bed or in front of a Louis XVI Fauteuil as an antique foot stool. Antique Arts & Crafts Wrought Iron Gothic Window Hall Bench Spanish Mission
Offered is this stunning ornate wrought iron hall or window bench. All hammered heavy iron(not cast) with chased copper and gold accents on the seat apron. Weighs a ton! About 80 or 90 pounds. The design is very Gothic. Spanish mission revival or French style. Would work great with arts and crafts styles. Probably made in the 1920's or 30's and I'm not entirely certain what the origin is. Measures 28" long by 20" wide and is 26" high to the arm rests and seat height is 16" Condition is excellent with minor rust or patination in the steel. No damage, breaks or repairs. This was part of the most sought after bedroom style in America in the mid Century. Built extremely well of good solid wood construction and can seat and side arms. French Provincial rolled arm Bench. Can be used as a settee. Bench or window seat. Ivory. The depth is 16 inches at the seat and 18 inches at the feet. The height is 29 inches ith a seat height of 18 inches and the width is 41 inches long. I used it in a guest room with the matching tall chest on chest(listed separately) Large dresser and mirror(listed separately) and nightstands(Listed separately. This settee has great bones for restoration or use it just as it is. I kept a big window seat cushion on it, so there was no further damage to it once it was handed down to me. The rest of the bedroom set was made and marked by Kroehler but this piece is not marked and does not have ... morethe gold trim. It may even be older than the bedroom set itself(which was in Aunt Muriel's bedroom before I existed) The bench is being sold"as Is. and has the wear and paint loss associated with such an antique and one arm has some damage to the cane, a 1 1/2 inch wide hole and a tear at one edge. see the detailed photos. Lovely this small whole quilt early 19th century machine stitched and handstitched. It would also look great over a bench under a window where you could comfortably read a book. Italian/Continental Early 20th Century Trompe L'oeil Window Seat Bench Settee
This is a sweet settee or window seat with rolled ends and newly reupholstered in a natural tone. Thick, rich fabric. The piece is probably Italian or Continental and from the early part of the 20th Century, possibly late 19th. The Tromp L'oeil painting is original. There are several areas where bumps have chipped the finish slightly as can be seen in the photos, however, I find this adds to the antique European appeal. The wood frame had been gessoed and then painted so any chipped areas appear white from the gesso. There are cartouche medallions on each corner and the legs taper gently. The overall dimensions are very nice.
