You are bidding on an authentic vintage adjustable piano stool. It is solid oak. It has lizard claw feet with scales and glass balls. I believe the lizard claw feet are solid brass but do not know for sure. The seat edge and the legs are carved as shown in the pictures. It is in quite good condition consistent with its approximately 100 year age. The wood is very solid. There are no scratches or gouges. There is one area on the central stem where the stain has been rubbed off and could use a touch-up. You can see it in picture number 2. Also. The legs need to be re-glued where they fit into the central stem as they are loose. The seat could use some polishing- see picture number 3. The seat is nice and solid- you can see where the original seam where the two pieces of oak were put together. But it isn't coming apart. There are 100+ years of small marks and scratches to the top, but they just give it character and could easily be sanded if you want to refinish it. This has been relaquered or varnished and repaired sometime in it's life. The repair is to the top board under the seat that the legs attach to. It looks like it was cracked and glued there and then some extra braces put on it to increase the strength. It feels sound and solid and easily held my 300 lbs and you should have no problems with it. They are on the underside so do not show in use. I saw no other damage and everything is tight and sound. I got it at a Estate sale. She was 94 Years young and was going to a family members house to live out the rest of her years. Comes from a non smoking home. Long before the art deco era of the 1950's was art deco era in the mid 1800's. That art deco wasn't by choice. Things were simple because the tools to do otherwise were not yet invented. While the fancy spools and fine art work is something to admire by the late 1800's, it is the simplicity of the early pieces that makes them so appealing. They didn't have lathe machines to turn the legs or center spool in the mid or early 1800's. The art deco era of the 50's had the ability but choose to return to the simple look. One way to know which era a piece is from, is the hardware. This hardware is not the 50's era. Another way is the markings on the hardware. This is where companies like parker would put their name. The base is 15" tall, the height is 19- 25 inches This antique 19th century American Chas Parker Co. adjustable fumed oak piano stool is in excellent condition overall. The glass ball feet are not exactly claws. More like a porthole or eye design which is very unique. If you look carefully you might notice minor wear to the seat top and the glass balls show some typical wear and minor chips on the underside. There is a screw missing from the mount seen in picture 8, someone screwed it into the bottom of the seat for safe keeping. I tried it in the hole but it just spins. ANTIQUE OAK BARLEY TWIST PIANO STOOL ~ PERFECT
This is a beautiful antique piano stool. I think the wood is oak and the twist gives it a one of a kind look that you don't find very often in piano stools. This one is in fantastic condition with fringed upholstery and the metal feet that look like serpent heads. The feet are gold colored and the finish is worn on the top of each head. I suspect it's a good foot rest while playing the piano. It measures 18 1/2" tall and 13" across the seat. There is one small spot on the edge of the seat that looks like something was spilled on it. I'm sure it's cleanable but it won't may not matter if you plan to have it recovered. I have no idea how old it is but others have suggested perhaps the turn of the 20th century. Antique Adjustable Oak Piano/Organ Stool w Crystal Ball/Claw Bird Feet New York
17 1/2" fully down-23 1/2" fully up to where the threads come undone so about 22" of safe usable height. Seat is 14 1/2" diameter and dished in the middle for comfort. Signed the New York Piano Stool Manufacturing Company. Sliver chip to the underside of the seat which hurts nothing. Leg spread is 14" across the closest feet. 19 1/2" across the farthest. Glass/crystal balls are loaded with air bubbles and in good shape. Very ornate claw feet with toes and claws and scales to look like bird feet. Threads in the iron mounting mechanism look good and are not worn out. I see a split at the very bottom of the pedestal below where the 4 leg cross supports insert and another small split/chip where a leg inserts into the bottom of the seat support. Some one already glued these up at some point in time and it feels sound ... moreand solid with all the joints feeling tight. There is a groove about 1/2" below the end of the center support. I've often seen a piece of copper wire wrapped around at that spot to make sure the crack never opens up again. Finish to the oak has really darkened over the years. I am going to remove the 4 screws that hold the iron to the bottom of the seat to hold the box size down for shipping. I have up for sale a really nice vintage original circa late 1890s to early 1900s Holtzman& Sons- Columbus. Ohio Oak Piano Stool. The spins on a screw,making the seats height either raise or lower depending on the direction you spin it. This particular style is much harder to find than the more common glass ball and claw foot examples. It personally is more appealing to my tastes. Maybe yours as well. This is just a great looking piece- all original. And in mighty fine shape. There is some normal minor light wear but overall its in great shape. It is solid and sturdy, not made for a mountain of a man but it will hold up for most folks. The seat is approx 14-1/2" in diameter and with the seat at its lowest point,it stands approx 19-1/4" tall. The screw spins smoothly and easily. the approximate weight is 15 lbs as it sits. The ... morefinish is Excellent. Nice warm patina, some wear on the seat but nothing serious. As noted in the condition report above, one half round/half ball is missing from the seats beaded edge, two other half balls have minor imperfections- one appears to have been glued back on and there is some remnants of the glue residue. The feet have some minor nicking from use, once again nothing serious. I will package with great care and ship fully insured. The metal claws and Glass Balls are in very good condition. It is adjustable from 19 1/2" to 24 1/2" in height. The seat goes up and down very smooth. It also look like someone has re-done the stool. I would swear that it was a salesman's sample. It is unique miniature seating for a doll or teddy bear or if you are a musician, it's an interesting little shelf piece. The legs may need to be adjusted, because the chair rocks back and forth a bit. The bottom of the seat has a'natural' wood indentation. Overall a great true antique. Oak brass claw Glass Footed Piano Stool This piano stool by H Holtzman& Sons is just waiting to for place in your home and antique collection. Solid oak. With a darker cherry stain, There is a separation in the bottom of the seat where the wood pieces were originally fused together needs to be glued. Measures 14 1/2" across& 19 1/2" high Holtzman and Sons was a great company back in the late 1860's to early 1900's. They made all sorts of things and piano stools was a specialty.
