Vintage 1950s Bird Maddux of Calif # 509 Western Tanager Tree Stump Toad Stool
This beautiful colorful piece of California is by a company established in 1938 by Harry William Maddux—Maddux of California. They produced a line of decorative items. Including a large collection of bird items. This piece is marked with Maddux of Calif#509. And is a Male Western Tanager on Tree Stump with Toad Stool Mushrooms. The Western Tanager is a medium sized American songbird. A member of the Cardinal family. The male has yellow plumage with black tail and wings with white bars, and a red head. Its forest breeding habitat ranges across western North America, from Mexico to southern Alaska. They build a cup nest and lay 4 bluish-green spotted eggs. This fellow appears to be singing his mating song while sitting on this old stump. It is obviously Spring, since the mushrooms have popped. This little vase is in very good vintage condition ... morewith only a flake chip to the bottom edge, which isn’t noticeable unless turned over, and a small glaze chip to the end of his beak. Both of these conditions are minor, and do not distract from the beauty of this vintage pottery vase. It measures approximately 5” tall, 5” long from the toad stools to the wing tips, and 3” wide. Please keep in mind this is not a new item. I try to describe items as accurately as possible. But cannot always detail each flaw. Crazing and manufacturing flaws such as pin heads, color variations, straw marks, bubbles, inclusions, and other manufacturing anomalies are considered normal for glass, china, and pottery of age. Vintage industrial recycled/upcycled antique stool. Well this little beauty is made from all recycled materials except the screws that are at the base of the stool. The pedestal is an antique cast iron table or stool base that I got at auction. The base is all salvaged plywood that has been laminated together and shaped to fit the base of the pedestal. The seat is also salvaged laminated plywood that has been covered in used brown and black leather belts in a basket weave pattern. It is adjustable from 16" to 19" The seat measures 14"x12" and weighs in at about 26 pounds. It is a really. Really cool peice. Thanks for looking and happy bidding. Vintage Taxidermy 4 Deer Hoof Leg Set Footstool Stool Ottoman Original 1950's
This is a vintage 1950's authentic vinyl upholstered footstool with taxidermy deer hoof legs. This stool/bench also has black vinyl fringe going around the perimeter. The stool measures 12 1/2" tall x 16 1/2" long x 11 1/2" wide. This does not count the width or length with the hooves pertruding outwards. The hooves each measure approximately 9 1/2" long with one hoof being a little shorter. The stool is unbalanced due to the shorter hoof so I put a small tin of mints under this leg to show the space difference. A wood spacer up underneath where the legs screw in should fix this. The hooves are in excellent condition. One hoof does have a small piece of fur on the inside bottom missing but this is unseen as it is discreet. The vinyl has some wear on the top with a few marks and some light discoloration. There are no ... moreho;es or tears. The stool is a fabulous piece from an era gone by. The sturdiest little stool I've ever seen! Solid maple wood- well built- excellent quality! Legs are pegged into the top as shown in photo. A brass tag on the underside states the manufacturer- A genuine Cushman Colonial Creations- made in Bennington. Vermont. Also has an"F" stamped into it as well as"CUSHMAN 9038" The Cushman company was sold in 1971. This stool is over 50 years old, but has no major problems. A few surface scratches, but nothing structurally. The top looks like someone started to sand then stopped- a few light places on the top. 3 of the legs have a felt tab on bottom which I did not attempt to remove. Cushman Furniture Company on the North Bennington. VT web site. Just search“Cushman furniture VT” The top is approximately 5/8” thick and is approximately 12-7/8” by 7-3/4” It stands +/ 5” high. The legs were glued(see photos) So I wonder if those are pegs that you see on the top. There is just a very small amount of give/wiggle, but they are study and the stool stands straight. Nice patina. This sweet vintage folding stool is made from beech. It consists of a tip up seat which has one leading edge shaped to comfortably accommodate the back of your legs. And four stretchered legs which criss-cross and fit into slots on the underside of the seat. It folds neatly and is, therefore, portable and easy to transport. It was made in the 1950's in Yugoslavia and on the base the original pencil-marked price of 7/ seven shillings) when first sold here in the UK can still be seen. It stands 23cm in height and the seat measures 32cm by 22cm. The Royal Mail are about to increase their prices with effect from 2nd April. The group of folks there that day had moved into the barn area. I have owned it for at least the last 25 years. This is a very cool stool and fairly heavy. I love putting the seat up and down! As the photos show. The paint is peeling and chipping but it is very solid. The seat is good with the exception of a couple very small spots of rust. The seat adjusts by turning it either clockwise or counterclockwise– depending on whether you want it taller or shorter. I attempted to show this in photos by seat position. It is a little noisy(from the wheels) when moving it ... moreor rolling in it across the floor wheels. I have not cleaned the stool nor have I shot it with WD-40– something I will leave up to the new owner. The stool stands approximately 19-1/2” tall with its seat in the lowest position and a full 24” with the seat extended up as much as it will go. The seat portion of the stool has a diameter of 11” It weighs in at 18 lbs 5 oz without any packaging. This stool could be repurposed in a myriad of ways and, since it is all original, you will be working with a blank slate. Hand-Painted Vintage Stool click picture to enlarge Up for auction this week- OO LA LA- I have this vintage step or milking stool. Now featuring a face-lift with my hand painting rendition of an old Paris post card. This stool was fun to paint, and I sure hope you enjoy viewing it! Oodles of detail involved! After sanding and priming. I painted the background of the legs and the top in a strong pink color. The spindles and the edge of the top were painted with"lavender frost, a lovely color with just a hint of lavender in it. Then the fun began! I painted a detailed border of prim dots to resemble antique lace. In the center of the lace I painted a vintage-looking Parisian postal card. Finishing off the painting are my signature cabbage roses in the corner. Signed by me, and then sealed several times with a high-gloss sealant to offer ... moreyou years of beauty and use. This stool is old. It has a slight wobble to it. But it's still plenty sturdy. I have sat and stood on this, and it held me just fine. Through the years there was some repair work done to the stool(I believe the stool is hand-made) as there is some glue residue down a leg or two. I couldn't sand the residue off, so what the heck, I just painted right over it. This just adds, I feel, to the vintage charm of this piece! No miniature here.the stool measures a full 17-3/4 inches high. The top is 1 foot squared. The legs"flare" out a little bit at the bottom. And they are 11-1/2 inches deep, front to back, and their widest point. What a wonderfully unique way to display a potted plant in your front foyer or outside on your patio! Give your little Granddaughter her own special place to sit when she comes to visit you by letting her rest upon this! You could even display a cherished knicknack on this enclosed under a ball jar. However you decide to display it(or actually USE it to reach those pesky high-up items) It's sure to draw compliments!
