ANTIQUE SOLID OAK BENCH w LIFT TOP STORAGE BOX- HAND CARVED GRAPES& LEAVES You are bidding on a beautiful hand carved bench with a lift top storage box. The top measures approx. 15 3/4 by 23 1/4 inches and the height is 20 inches tall. It has carved grapes and grape leaves on the front and the two sides. The top lifts up to reveal a storage box approx. 8 3/4 inches deep. I believe this piece originally had turned feet that have been cut off lowering the height. At 20 inches it is perfect for a vestibule or mud room bench for removing and putting on shoes etc. The oak has a nice deep rich color wit5h a nice old patina. I would guess this was made around the turn of the century circa 1900 or so. It is very sturdy and strong with mortise and tenon construction with pegged joints. One side panel does have a crack in it but it is not very ... morenoticeable. The top also has some stains from past use and one of the hinges has a broken corner but still functions quite well. 48 inches long 18 inches high. Add a cushion for a couple of inches if your table is too high 20 inches deep I purchased this super lift top chest for personal use years ago. I used it in Rhode Island. Then in Florida, then in Phoenix, then stored it for 7 years with some of the potential"keepers" in my life. Not knowing where I'd be living or what size my permanent home was going to be, I knew some of the furniture, pottery, and artwork would be more than I could absorb. Deep sighs. I really had hoped this chest would fit in somewhere. We are over 65 and living small- on 5 acres- but small. Some things are appearing in this ebay store. This box is the perfect chest to act as a bench at the foot of the bed, under a window, on a long side of a serious farm table, or as a coffee table. Oh my gosh, such a great chest with its chip ... morecarved border on every surface except the bottom and back. The back is finished to the point where it can be exposed to view, although it lacks the chip carved ornamentation. If being used as a bench, facing a table, and exposed to the room at the back, I would turn it around and face the room, making it also easier to open without having to pull it out or turn it. This is a super place for seasonal TV watching blankets and table linens. It's a great place to hide the sterling. Who would think to look? Behind the chest, in the first picture, you can see the Welsh dresser that I absolutely am keeping, built a specific spot in the house sized to fit. It occurred to me that this chest could slide under the Welsh dresser and serve to hold table linens, etc. but it is just too perfectly sized. If I put stuff in it, the way I want to, it won't slide out and if I add rollers, it will be too tall. It just has to go. Though built to emulate the Jacobean look, I'd say it is more of the Arts and Crafts movement, so really perfect for today's home, easy to blend with Metro-Industrial furniture and Moderne and Arts& Crafts and leather. Antique Tiger Oak Hall Bench/ Deacon's Bench From my Grandparent's home in Western Pennsylvania Exact age and style unknown. The home had lots of Victorian and other antiques when my Grandparents moved in. The simple clean lines of this piece lead me to think perhaps Arts& Crafts period? But the round form of the pillars makes me unsure. Any help in dating would be appreciated! The bench is made from both solid wood and wood veneers. I refinished this bench in the 1990s. However my work to repair chips in the veneers is poorly matched. More veneer chips have occurred since refinishing. Please see the many photos. I painted the interior of the bench(under the seat lid) to make it easier to see my children's hats and gloves. Which we stored there in the winter months. ANTIQUE QUARTERSAWN TIGER-OAK SLATTED-BACK BENTWOOD BENCH! If you've ever tried to find one of these you can commiserate. They are so oddly scarce. Despite the wonderful benches in old and period movies(maybe the set-shops bought them all? it seems these benches are just not available to the rest of us. One imagines they were once quite common in train stations. Waiting rooms& offices, but like so much of the great oak turn-of-century furnishings that were considered typical in the late 19th& early 20th century, it seems they are either collected& held onto tightly, or people fed them to the incinerator as they opted for something upholstered, art deco, or mid-mod/chrome-plated& vinyl. Anyway. Here's a one of those great oak benches we pine for! It's in decent shape, beautiful oak, never painted over. A tad of ... moremovement in the joints, but I believe you can just tighten the screws(there are round oak caps over the screws, I didn't want to be the one to start popping them off& losing them in the middle of our move here. Plenty of age-appropriate character from its more than a century of service. But these were built for the ages. No major complaints that I find. The finish was always a bit dry, so we've given it a good cleaning, a nice coat of fine wax& a buffing. It's looking better than I've ever seen it! There's a partial sticker with a maker's mark still attached(see photo) Something Philadelphia. The style is excellent, beautifully crafted with bentwood slats, gorgeous quartersawn tiger-oak in the carved seat. Very nice patina& terrific'Old Oak Office' style& look. This will go great in a hallway, on a balcony, in an office or waiting room, or anywhere to add the warmth, craft, style& décor that only the Old Oak furnishings can provide. This is a Monk's Bench which arrived into New Orleans around 1830. I purchased it from a woman on Esplanade Avenue who purchased it from a family in the French Quarter years ago. It is made of white French Oak. I thought it was English oak but was corrected years ago that this is indeed French. This makes sense as there was a very strong connection between New Orleans and France even after the Louisiana Purchase was signed and Louisiana turned over to the United States. Antique Oak Entry Hall Tree With Storage Bench & Beveled Mirror ( Nice & Solid )
For your consideration is this Very Nice Antique Oak Entry Hall Tree. I have been told it dates back to the late 1800s. But i am not sure, could be the early 1900s?There are no markings on it that i can see. The Hall Tree is in excellent condition, is very solid, and has a nice aged Patina look. It is about 82-3/4" tall, 24 to 26" wide(at different levels) and 15" deep. The Beveled Mirror is about 17 1/4" wide and 35" high and in very good condition for its age. There are 6 Coat, Cap Hooks, the two on top are Butterfly Hooks( unusual& rare) see picture 5, I have never seen these before or after we got this one) I don't know if they were on the Hall Tree from day one or if someone added them later, they are old and they compliment the attractive decorative carvings on top, plus they do match the cutout pattern ... moreabove the seat perfectly.see picture 3) The Bench Seat has storage space under the lid. This is a fabulous. Country, primitive, school school house find! Everything one could want in a piece of early Texas primitive furniture. Picture this in your sitting room or great room with your wool textiles and quilts. I bought it so many years ago at an estate sale in Austin that I can't recall the year. It was the mid 1980's, that's the closest I can get. This appealed to me the moment I saw it. I could immediately picture the generations of Texas hill country school children that used this stool. Sitting on it, standing on it to reach higher things, younger children using it under their desks to rest their feet. now picture a new purpose in your cabin-like decor or your log home. STUNNING! I used it for over 20 years as a utilitarian step stool in setting up my booth at Antique Shows as a textiles dealer. Sometimes I used ... moreit as a lovely. Primitive wood display piece; textiles sell quickly when draped as opposed to laid flat. Trust me on this. NOW, TO THE STOOL! I'm fairly sure it's crafted from native Texas oak. I googled the wood grain and it closely matches examples that are close relatives to that wood I know as"Texas post oak. This conclusion only makes sense that carpenters and cabinet makers making everyday objects would use plentiful and the least expensive materials. A drive through Texas hill country will be overwhelming when you view the vast acreages of natural forested land. Those oaks made this stool, small bench. There's a small brass plate that"documents" the origin of this charming piece of primitive furniture. See photo) The REAL brass plate contains: S. M. Schools" and the number"12077" Since I bought this is Austin, Texas, geographically at the western edge of the Texas hill country, it seems reasonable to say the"S. M. stands for San Marcus.
