ANTIQUE QUARTERSAWN TIGER-OAK SLAT-BACK BENTWOOD BENCH! Ë If you've ever tried to find one of these you can commiserate. They are so oddly scarce. Despite the wonderful benches in old and period movies(maybe the set-shops bought them all? it seems these benches are just not available to the rest of us. One imagines they were once quite common in train stations. Waiting rooms& offices, but like so much of the great oak turn-of-century furnishings that were considered typical in the late 19th& early 20th century, it seems they are either collected& held onto tightly, or people fed them to the incinerator as they opted for something upholstered, art deco, or mid-mod/chrome-plated& vinyl. Anyway. Here's a one of those great oak benches we pine for! It's in decent shape, beautiful oak, never painted over. A tad ... moreof movement in the joints, but I believe you can just tighten the screws(there are round oak caps over the screws, I didn't want to be the one to start popping them off& losing them in the middle of our move here. Plenty of age-appropriate character from its more than a century of service. But these were built for the ages. No major complaints that I find. The finish was always a bit dry, so we've given it a good cleaning, a nice coat of fine wax& a buffing. It's looking better than I've ever seen it! There's a partial sticker with a maker's mark still attached(see photo) Something Philadelphia. The style is excellent, beautifully crafted with bentwood slats, gorgeous quartersawn tiger-oak in the carved seat. Very nice patina& terrific'Old Oak Office' style& look. Older Arts & Craft Style Oak Bench Stool Seat From England Pegged Construction
This auction is for an older Solid Oak Bench or Stool from England. This is a very well made bench made from Solid Oak and it's been"pegged" together. Pegged together means the boards were drilled then wooden pegs were used instead of nails to connect the pieces. Most of this type of construction went out in the late 1800's. This is a wonderful little bench and has super eye appeal and it is Rock Solid. It could go into any room of your home as a wonderful accent piece yet it would hold up to dailey use as well. The seat is what we call a"pop out" seat. You just put your hand underneath the seat and push up. It"pops out" The fabric does not look that old to me but it is soiled. It would take a staple gun and about 20 minutes with 1/8 yard of your favorite fabric to cure this problem and you would have ... morea stool that would out live you and your children. Antique Tiger Oak Hall Bench/ Deacon's Bench From my Grandparent's home in Western Pennsylvania Needs some TLC Exact age and style unknown. Estimated to be 1920s. The bench is made from both solid wood and wood veneers. I refinished this bench in the 1990s. However my work to repair chips in the veneers is poorly matched. More veneer chips have occurred since refinishing. Please see the many photos. I painted the interior of the bench(under the seat lid) to make it easier to see my children's hats and gloves. Antique Rustic Solid Red Oak 4-Person Bench or Coffee End Table Cabin Old West
Incredible piece of antique cabin-style furniture. Made completely by hand using incredibly thick. Huge slabs of solid Red Oak. Joined underneath by mortise and tendon joints that are reinforced by blacksmith made screws. It has been refinished at some point in its history, but it's frontier/ Old West charm shines thru, as does the rich luster of its gorgeous wood grain. The amount of Oak that is used in this piece is staggering. This table was made in a day and age when someone felled a huge oak with an axe. And either had the tree pulled to a nearby mill, or used a long blade saw to hand cut huge planks of Oak by hand. This is a hand-crafted antique that I would date as originating from the mid 1800's, approximately the Civil War Era. I could be off by as much as half a century- it could easily date from not much later than the ... morevery early 1800's. It's exact original function is lost to history. It is a magnificent coffee table. A gorgeous accent table, and a fantastic and substantial nightstand. However, I believe it was built as a two-sided bench. It has the capacity to sit four people, and the strength to easily hold them. The top has a glossy patina on it, as wooden seats get on antique Oak chairs. Table tops from frontier period furniture tend to be rough- they doubled as workbenches, and get nicked and sliced from the cutting of meats. Everything one could want in a piece of early Texas Hill Country primitive furniture. This was most certainly made by an immigrant or first generation German craftsman, the settlers of the region. Picture this in your sitting room or great room with your wool textiles and quilts. I bought it so many years ago at an estate sale in Austin that I can't recall the exact year. It was the mid 1980's, that's the closest I can get. This appealed to me the moment I saw it. I could immediately picture the generations of Texas hill country school children that used this stool. Sitting on it, standing on it to reach higher things, younger children using it under their desks to rest ... moretheir feet. now picture a new purpose in your cabin-like decor or your log home. STUNNING! I used it for over 20 years as a utilitarian step stool in setting up my booth at Antique Shows as a textiles dealer. Sometimes I used it as a lovely, primitive wood display piece; textiles sell quickly when draped as opposed to laid flat. Trust me on this. NOW, TO THE STOOL! I'm fairly sure it's crafted from native Texas oak. I googled the wood grain and it closely matches examples that are close relatives to that wood I know as"Texas post oak. 18th Century George III oak bench of good colour antique Georgian
There are benches and then there are benches. And then there is the bench. And it's a cracker. One of the nicest oak benches we've seen in a long time with just fabulous colour and patination. Just shy of six feet long. The 2 1/4" thick slab of oak stands over splayed and chamfered legs. The wear to the edges along the edges of the bench were many many pairs of legs have rubbed against it over the last two hundred and thirty years or so is a lovely feature. The A frame supporting stretchers to the legs are a later feature. This is a very solid and sturdy(and heavy) 18th century oak bench and we just love it. A dealer friend saw one like this at Round Top! She found an identical one there that sold for $200! This is a fabulous. Country, primitive, school house find! Everything one could want in a piece of early Texas Hill Country primitive furniture. This was most certainly made by an immigrant or first generation German craftsman, the settlers of the region. Picture this in your sitting room or great room with your wool textiles and quilts. I bought it so many years ago at an estate sale in Austin that I can't recall the exact year. It was the mid 1980's, that's the closest I can get. This appealed to me the moment I saw it. I could immediately picture the generations of Texas hill country school children that used this stool. Sitting on it, standing on it to reach higher things, younger children using it under their desks to rest ... moretheir feet. now picture a new purpose in your cabin-like decor or your log home. STUNNING! I used it for over 20 years as a utilitarian step stool in setting up my booth at Antique Shows as a textiles dealer. Sometimes I used it as a lovely, primitive wood display piece; textiles sell quickly when draped as opposed to laid flat. Trust me on this. NOW, TO THE STOOL! I'm fairly sure it's crafted from native Texas oak. I googled the wood grain and it closely matches examples that are close relatives to that wood I know as"Texas post oak. This conclusion only makes sense that carpenters and cabinet makers making everyday objects would use plentiful and the least expensive materials. A drive through Texas hill country will be overwhelming when you view the vast acreages of natural oak forested land. Those oaks made this stool, small bench. Heavily Carved 3 Leg Claw/Paw Wall Bench with Upholstered Geometric Fabric Seat. The 3 supportings legs are heavily carved in identical motifs. The feet are carved depicting 4 toes/talons with nails and fur/feathers on the backside. The feet are framed on the front topside in square rosette medallions. With triangular cut square medallions on both sides. The middle and upper portion of the legs are curved in a scroll/volute shape, with scrolls encasing the front(knee' acanthus leaf with beaded center line portion. The sides are heavily carved in a volute style circular pattern with a large ornate rosette center(leaves& berries) and a repeated pattern of triangular cut square medallions. Between the volute pattern and the stem to the claw/foot base is a very unique floral style carving with 2 textured ruffled layers. The top of the ... morelegs are adorned with anthemion style leaves that cascade down towards the rosette center and front acanthus leaves. The rectangular seat top is finished in a geometric wool/blend fabric with shades of muted gold. Beige, and black stripes. Bands of single piping trim frame the seat top and sides. Up for Auction is a beautiful church pew from the early 1900's. This Pew is 5' long. This pew is solid oak and very heavy. It is original including the stain. They have that very old original patina. These pews are excellent for benches since they have a straight back design so will fit very close to the wall without a large angle on the back like so many pews. They are also very comfortable because of the curved back. this pew contains the original book holder on the back. As you can see by the photos they have a very nice decorative design in each end. I have looked a very long time for this type of design and have not seen any like this since. I have kept one for a hallway bench in my house. Due to the weight and size I will not ship them. Antique Eastlake Style Oak Small Decorative Bench with Lift Up Lid
Small Antique Lift Top Eastlake Decorative Bench Estate find. This is a nice little Eastlake Bench. I think the wood is walnut Great carved decorative detail including great cut out sides, turned stretcher piece and etched flowers on end panels. The top of the bench lifts up to reveal a small storage space under the seat. In good antique condition. The top wood has small holes where it looks like it once had an upholstered top and some wear and there are minor wears to the finish from years of use. Solid, sturdy, lovely little accent piece- you could upholster the top or leave it with the wood top. Bench measures 18" long. 9.5" wide and 16" tall. Nice Little Antique Eastlake Bench.
