Beautiful early Beckwith piano-Upright Grand model-with rare matching bench. Very nice action; plays really well. It has ivory keys; several key tops have popped off. But I have most of them, and they just need to be glued back on. There are some scratches and one place where about an inch square of the veneer has popped off. The bench lid yawns a bit, and one of the legs of the bench was gnawed on a bit by a granddog. I am the third owner of this piano. It has not been played a lot, which is possibly why the action is so good. It has been stored for 3 years in a semi-controlled environment-no air conditioning, but good ventilation. I just don't have room for it in my house, which is the only reason I'm selling it. A similar piano(same model, same quarter-sawn oak, but with no bench, completely restored, sold recently for $11,000.00. ... moreThis would require restoration to command that price, but it would certainly be a candidate for a full restoration. It's playable as it is, of course. One key has a broken hammer arm-an easy fix for a good technician. And it'll need tuned, of course. You will have to pick it up. I'm not a carpenter or a wood guy, so I didn't want to try and tighten them. The leather cushion is clearly in disrepair. It would need to be restored in order to make it look nice. It has springs on the underside. Here's a nice vintage oak church pew we received recently with some household estate goods. This one is the shorter 4 ft style pews or church benches. Allowing more flexible possibilities for use within a home. On one end there is an incised cross as we show in the pictures. On the other end there is no cross and a verticle channel that would be used to align and temporarily join two or more these pews or church benches together. Overall appearance is good with no signs of damage or abuse. It is relatively clean but could use a little light cleaning and perhaps some furniture polish or wax to look it's best. Merklen Brothers Oak Hall Bench, 1885 to 1890
This is a great hall bench made by Merklen Brothers in New York City. 1885 to 1890, in good original finish. Minor repairs and gluing of the joint were made plus it has been cleaned and waxed. Spiral turned legs and stretchers, barley twist strands woven into lattice work in the back, carved talon and ball feet. Not a one of a kind piece because it was manufactured, but relatively rare and quite beautiful.It is truly a piece of art! Measures 54" long, 37" tall, at tallest point in center. The settle is constructed of ... moresolid oak panelled timbers. The back consists of five raised fielded inset panels. Further fielded panels are also visible to the bottom of the seat and the sides of the settle. The two lids in the seat are hinged with hand beaten forged iron hinges. The inside of the box settle is ideal for storing shoes and wellies in the hallway. The settle boasts down swept shaped oak arms to the sides. Pegged construction. The settle features the original polish and patination and thus the colour of this settle is superb. Interestingly. This settle was used in a Sherlock Holmes TV series that was filmed in Leek, on the Staffordshire moorlands in Derbyshire! This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE OAK WOOD 25-3/4" HIGH STOOL This primitive hand(not factory) made round seat four-leg oak wood stool was recently found in an Augusta County. Virginia estate. It measures 25-3/4" tall with a top diameter of 12-1/2" At the base. The four splayed legs span 13-1/2" It features four splayed wood legs. 8 stretchers, two of which are not original, a reinforcing vertical brace for added stability, and the original varnish now very dark from age. It remains in very good condition. The legs are secure to the top. The stool is structurally sound with tight joints, and it sits level and steady on any flat surface.
