This primitive little milking stool is as nice as they come with original black paint and a little hand-quilted piece that can be used as a coverlet if you want or finish it off by making it into a little pillow. I just happened to spot the quilt piece in my"stash" and thought it would go nicely with the stool. The stool is very sturdy and I believe hand made. The framework is a heavy metal and the round wood top is about 3/4 inches thick.It is 14 inches high and the base is 12 inches square with 4 legs; the round top has about a 15 inch diameter. I really like way the maker bent the bottom of the legs into a curve so it doesn't dig into your floors. Could be used as a foot stool. A plant stand, display piece, etc. I hope you like it. 19th c. Farmhouse Milking Stool w Mortise Wedge~3 leg Cricket Bench w Old Repair
Here we have a really great 19th century farmhouse milking or cricket stool with an old make-do dowel repair. This small round cricket stool has three leg design. I t is made of a heavy hard wood and it is most likely of Irish or other European origin. It measures just under 5 3/4" tall. 8" round, the top is over 3/4" thick and it has mortise& wedge construction. There is an old repair to the round top where two dowels were inserted to side reinforce a stress crack. When looking at the bottom there also appears to have been a brace placed over the crack to secure the broken piece during repair. Once the repaired was completed the brace was removed and the leg was secured with a little glue. The fracture on this stool is currently solid and secure however we would recommend against milking a cow while sitting on it. This ... moreold repair just adds a bit of charm to the stool and with the time aged patina this piece has a wonderful desirable look. Also on the bottom is a later nail inserted into one leg and evidence of where other nails were removed. This diminutive cricket stool has lots of evidence of wear from use and it will make a really nice addition to any collection. It weights in at 1 pound 4 ounces and it is in as-found condition from a Connecticut estate. ESTATE: I don't know when or where this stool was made but it came from a house that contained some fine Asian antiques so I'm assuming it was from that area. The frame is made from what I believe is unfinished mahogany wrapped in bamboo. The edge of the seat is tooled with incised crosses and scrolls. please see photos 5, 6 and 7) The back has been left open while the sides and front are paneled with what looks to be a thin mahogany plywood. The leg style is less common and it has no hole in the handle for hanging. The stool is in beautiful excellent structured condition for its age and a very hard solid wood. Vintage Wood Bench Milking/ Step Stool Primitive Country Style Tole Painted Blue
Multi Purpose Step Stool For your consideration. A charming old step stool made by an unknown artisan accented by a cut out heart design and tole painting. This stool may have been for a child stepping up to wash their hands or a gardener weeding the lettuce. It may even been a milking stool since its past is unknown. However. It has a great future dressing up your country style home or helping a child learn to be independent. My resident expert. SAB, thinks it is made from fir and it was valued enough by a previous owner to fix it when a crack appeared in one of the legs. The crack is still on the inside of one of the legs but does not affect the strength of the stool. It was painted blue but the color is faded and chipped on the sides. I think the tole painting was originally pink but time has faded it as well. One of the wooden plugs used ... moreto cover the screw hole on one side is missing. There is also a stamp on the bottom side but it is too faded to decipher. The stool measures 11 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 8" It is small but perfect for the step up that some of us need. An Awesome Find!
