RARE Industrial Revolution Machine Age Bench Tool Hand Lathe 1800 Museum Pc 19C
I can't find many mill factory trade mercantile bench machines on line like this other than sewing machines. It is hand powered by crank. Not sure if it is a lathe or similar tool. I bought it out of an 1800s mill on the Blackstone River in Pawtucket RI, origin of the American Industrial Revolution. This old factory made jewelry findings, and other items for the civil war cause I was told. It has some original paint left. Looks like a nice project to restore. I think it could be a museum piece for American Industry of some sort. Originally I was going to make a lamp with it, like the steam punk[steampunk] movement is doing now. It weighs almost 5 lbs, and is cast iron. The base is 6 1/2" x 6. The machine is 5 x 6, not including the piece that is off by itself. Not sure what that did. 10' Long Industrial style table with cast iron legs and antique carpenters bench
Just got done with this piece. The top is very old. It came out of a carpenters shop in Lancaster county Pa, it has alot of wear marks, saw marks, screw holes etc on it. I stained and glazed it to complement the legs, and added some huge bolts to the top to give it some(more) visual interest. The legs are gorgeous. They were in a patternmakers shop that had been in business since the 1920's. And held up workbenches there. The top is 10' long. 32" wide, and 32.5" tall. Can easily be raised taller by adding stretchers on top of the legs if you wanted it at island height, say. More pics can be found at theretrofactory.com. I think it was used for a buffer as it was clean. Item has all the external shields as shown in the photos plus 2 bench mounting bolts that came with it that maybe you can use to mount it. All the screws to mount the shields to the grinder are included in the plastic bags for easy installation if required for your set-up.
