Vintage 1940s Mid-Century RED COSCO KITCHEN STEP STOOL Chair Seat Antique/Old
Cosco Kitchen Stool Stool found this weekend at local Grosse Pointe Estate Sale. It is as found. I have wiped it cleaner with soap and water. It could easily be restored or just painted. I like it As Is! Character from that era, even the COSCO sticker on the bottom side lets me know that it is OLD. The sticker still calls this item a COSCO Product! I believe it to be from the 40's. At least that is what the estate seller told me, hope he was being truthful. The stool is solid metal all around. However. It does show paint loss on the seat and some on the legs. But all of that lets you know this stool has a story! It is still quite sturdy. The seat is 24" above the floor and measures 13 x 11 inches. The 14 x 7 inch back rises 35 inches at its highest. The COSCO stamp is still on the rubber step pads. There are some paint drippings ... moreon the step pads. I believe it is removeable. The leather is packed with straw. The wood is strong, but the leg hinges nee d to be tighte ned. There is discoloring on the fold out parts of the legs. This discoloring looks to be moisture stains. To open this fine piece you push down on the padded top while pulling on the button on the front. To close you pull out on the button and push down on the top. Once open the stool spins around. There is a leather strap on the top that was used to carry the stool. Inside the box is a metal divider. See pictures. Antique Cast Iron Industrial Adjustable Swing Arm Stool (wall or table mount)
I will start by saying that I aquired(2) of these industrial stool sometime back at a local sale that was selling some items that had be salvage from some old industrial plant. This auction is for one of these stools and the other is listed in a seperate auction. This is a large cast iron swing arm stool with what looks like a maple seat. This stool would have mounted either on the wall. A large table leg, or on a large piece of industrial equipement. It has a screw up adjustable seat and a swivel bracket on the swing arm so it could be positioned in several positions. The seat is 11" in diameter and 1 1/2" thick. The adjustable height of the seat is that it could be adjusted up to a height of at least(6) inches. The swing arm and wall or table mount bracket combined are(14) inches long. SC! Imagine the history that has happened around this piece! While I have no idea of its age, I am certain it is very old! The wooden base appears to be mahogany and is in superb condition. Attached to this base are three sturdy cast iron legs with beautiful ironworks designs that are in really nice condition minus flaws as seen in photos#1, 13& 14 below. The seat itself(measuring just shy of 14 inches x 14 inches) is soft, plush and spins just like new. This stool can be raised to a maximum of 26 inches in height and it can be lowered all the way down to 20 inches. This Antique office drafting chair is one I know the full history of. It came from Cottrell's Printing Press Manufacturers in Pawcatuck, Ct. Made by Toledo Metal Furniture Co. UHL Steel USA, it's age is est. 1930-1940. I purchased this chair in 1969 when Cottrell's was upgrading furniture they sold these to employees. The chair, stool is very comfortable as people sat in them for 8 hrs or more a day. When I bought the chair it was close to 35 years old and I have had it for 44 yrs. This was built for an industrial machine shop setting, it is fully adjustable from 28" low setting to 32 1/2" high setting as well as the back rest being adjustable, it swivels has a curved seat made of walnut veneer 16" x 14" the back is 6" x 13" also in walnut veneer. A comfortable foot rest at 12 1/2" high is made ... moreof metal. The entire base is metal with a bit of surface rust on it, otherwise the chair is in excellent condition for it's age. Vintage Toledo UHL Gray Industrial Drafting Stool Chair Antique - Must See!
Up for sale is a beautiful vintage original Toledo UHL drafting stool in very good condition. Like anything that is over 70-80 years old. It has some nicks, scratches and such. However on the whole it is in really nice shape as well as being very clean. The stool has some rust spots where the paint has warn away over time on it as are visible in the pictures. But nothing out of the ordinary for its age. It has been well cared for, but has that desired aged look where you can tell it has been around. The sticker fell off it at some point. I took a picture of the spot before wiping it off so you can see it was a real Toledo stool. If you have ever seen the sticker between the 2 rivets you can see the outline there to know that it was once on there many years ago. It will make a great addition to someone who is looking for a vintage piece like ... morethis that can appreciate its"character" and imperfections. While being proud to have a clean functional example of a timeless drafting stool. As far as shipping. In the past what I have done is take the back riser part off as it is easily removable, so that I can properly box the stool to be able to ship it anywhere in the continental U.S for a reasonable price. The buyer will have to put the back riser back on, but it is only held on by 4 bolts and is easily done. Trying to ship it any other way is far too costly and just not practical given the size.
