In addition to the ornate Victorian drape effect of oak leaves and the scrollwork feet, and the flowing/swirling Art Nouveau oak leaf and vine designs. Appears to have original pine or soft wood cover top. With is covered with the original straw– the straw covered with remnants of original jute material. The jute is covered with a 1930s era cloth material. And covering this material is a worn dark forest green velvet. The wood stool top is easily recoverable if new owner should so desire. Early Antique Victorian Eastlake Incised Carved Foot Stool Foot Rest 1800's
Early 1800s antique footstool. This piece has great lines and carvings. The wood is so dark black with patina or paint I can not tell what type of wood it is. The carvings and details are fabulous. It is in good condition for its age. One of the bottom of the feet is chipped but can only be seen if you flip it over. There are springs in it which does add weight to the piece. The upholstery has some issues of wear on top and I am not sure what is under the material. It seems to be easily Recoverable. Antique 18th Century Birch Pegged Joint Stool Pub End Table Raw Pine Board Top
This late 1700s joint stool measures 22” tall x 15 ¾” x 12” overall with 10 ¾” x 16” replaced scrubbed pine top. The wood appears to be birch and there is nice shrinkage to the turnings and wear to the bottom of the feet. You will note pegs at all joints(suitably raised) and wear to the bottom rails. It was refinished many years ago using abrasion. Which resulted in the pattern of light and dark areas seen in the photos(dark areas are where the sander did not reach. While the surface is not historic, the overall effect is quite pleasant and the surface has a very friendly warm hand rubbed sheen. In the 19th century, the pine plank top was attached(with wrought nails) and it was upholstered many times, resulting in the edge wear, holes and stray tacks. The amount of use it received suggests it may have been in a Pub and there is ... morea branded inventory number on the bottom of one rail as well as the printed name“C B Walker” under a layer of dirt and grime. The glue blocks appear to date from the 19th century when the top was replaced. The owner removed several layers of old upholstering from the top to reveal the old pine board. However if someone who is in the know can be sure it's from another era I would welcome hearing from them. There is damage to the wooden part of this stool.As can be seen in the photo's, I think it's stuffed with straw or hair. The tapestry part is lovely and still quite bright in colour. This piece appears to be a transition piece from eastlake to mission which dates to between 1890 and 1910. The original finish really shows off the beautiful grain you get from quartersawn oak. The bench has a very clean red velvet seat. This bench is in excellent condition with no damage of any kind. Really great condition considering it is over 100 years old.
