100 year old ornate antique oak church pew in original finish / 24 sold..1 left
This offering is for the 46 1/2" wide beautiful ornate antique oak church pew pictured. It is the last one from an original lot of 25 pews. It would make a wonderful Christmas gift! It has a feature that is extremely rare.ornate applied carvings on both the outside of the end panels as well as on the inside of the panels(near the top on the inside) In 12 or more years of buying and selling 400 or more antique church pews. I have never had any with applied carvings on the inside of the end panels. The pew has been shortened from its original length and is just as it was used in the church; I have gone over it with Old English to cover over scratches from the nearly 100 years of usage. It is completely authentic and is an attractive looking piece that would look great in your family room. Entry way, on your porch or patio, in a sun room, ... morein an office or reception area, or just about anywhere seating you would like to place them. The pew is approximately 46 1/2 inches wide at the rear of the pew. You can see that both end panels taper in slightly. Making the front of the pew slightly narrower than the back of the pew. The end panels are 38 1/2" high. When placed against the wall. The pew will extend out into the room 24" Seat height is 15 1/2" from the floor and seat depth is 15" There is a slight curvature to the benches that you can see in the pictures. There is a very nice 32 inch wide hymnal rack attached to the back side of the pew. The pew has some scuffs and rubs in the finish from nearly 100 years of service in the church that will vary from the scuffs and rubs of the pictured pew. But it is very sturdy and in nice cosmetic condition. There is a small chip out of the seat where it meets the end panel and a small place on one of the arms where a little of the wood is missing.I have pictured both of these areas for you. This is an old church pew with a back board for song book. Prayer book or bible. This bench appears to be very old and may be 100 years old or older, just not sure of the age. Measures about 8 ft. long. Some animal has been chewing on it in several places(see pictures) which adds to the primitive look. The critter also chewed on the bottom center leg and the bottom right leg. Red paint or stain looks much brighter in the pictures than it is, it is very dull. Buyer much pick up near Roanoke VA.

Though it could easily be much earlier. This is an antique wooden door inlay panel with a stylized Fleur De Lis pattern hand carved in it. This would have been used in a very old, very heavy(like you would see in an old church) door as a decoration or possibly on a pew. The main door would have been cut and set, then this would have been placed in a recess. This is now a wall hanging with all the hardware on the back. Craftsmanship like this is just not as prevalent as it used to be. There are some ding and nicks here and there. There is one larger chip on the top closer to the rear that runs about half the length. What a great piece of history, that could be part of your story. Antique Photo - Steam Tanker J. N. Pew, Sun Oil Co, Philadelphia - Comm. 1921
Antique early photograph of the STEAM TANKER J. N. PEW. The ship was built in 1921 by the Sun Shipbuilding Co. Chester, Pennsylvania. This photograph is signed J. E. Green. Chester, Pa, with an embossed stamp in the corner of the photo. I believe this might be the first photograph of the J. N. Pew. Taken as it was launched in 1921. The type of photograph and the cardboard mount would certainly appear to be from the time of construction. The J. N. Pew was a tanker of 9.033 tons, owned by the Sun Oil Company of Philadelphia. It was sunk by torpedo fire from U-502 in the Caribbean west of Aruba on February 22, 1942, with only 3 survivors out of a crew of 36. This information was found after determining the name of the ship and searching on the internet. And a full copy of what I found will be included with the photo. The photograph is in overall ... morefair condition. The image itself measures approximately 6 x 15 inches. There is some slight browning from age. Some staining at the top of the picture in the sky area, and a small loss of photo surface at the left end of the ship, again in the sky. The ship image is generally unmarked; I would consider it to be in good condition considering its age. The cardboard mount is in poor condition, with water stains. Edge loss, and discoloration. The mount measures approximately 10 x 20 inches. The picture could be professionally restored. Or could be rematted and framed to cover the damaged back. For the marine collector. Elsewhere I have seen similar pieces refered to as having come from a 18th Century Spanish monestery. The flash makes a few of the pictures look like the piecs is varnished or freshly oiled. But it has not had either, and has very natural aged appearance, as seen in other photos. PLEASE REFER TO ALL PICTURES TO DETERMINE THE CONDITION OF THE PIECE UP FOR AUCTION. With some variation. The gothic-style carvings are exquisite, the wood gorgeous, some beautiful quarter-sawn tiger oak flake and beautiful embossed or carved details, a true beauty. Measures about 40" High. 13' 10" Long& 26" Deep. Everything looks sound. It's strong, whatever minor age or use-related comments are very minor. About the nicest pew of this style& in the best condition I've seen. I love these carved pews, have collected a few, so I'm surprised by how little wear this one shows. This one is really long. I've seen folks shorten them by taking off an end. Shortening the bench& re-attaching the end, but I'll leave that to the the next custodian of this piece.
