All bronze parts are solid bronze not plated iron. We didn't include a strike plate for the door jamb because we didn't have any ornate strikers that matches up with the lock. However. If you don't mind a plain, bronze/brass strike plate, you could buy one from us for an extra $10- email us after the auction if you are interested. The lock is reversible and could accommodate either a right or left swing door. The lock and escutcheons were made by. Norwalk Lock Co. of Norwalk, CT during the late 1880's and the knobs were made by, Reading Hardware Co. of Reading, PA during the 1890's. All bronze parts have lovely, Aesthetic(Eastlake) style designs. We found the parts fairly clean. With very little patina. Some parts have more patina than others. If you would prefer for us to clean all parts to a uniform finish, we could do so prior to shipping for an additional $15-email us after the auction if you're interested. All parts are in great shape with no breaks. Cracks, chips, dents, gouges, or deep scratches. The details of the plates are sharp, but the knobs have been touched so much over the past century that their central, floral motifs show signs of wear. The lock was opened, inspected, and greased to function more smoothly. We made a key to operate the lock, and we could make more for $8/key-email us after the auction if you are interested. The spindle is stuck in one of the knobs. This isn't a flaw. Because that's where the spindle belongs, but we just wanted to make you aware of it. Large Skeleton Keys on Ring Brass colored Genuine set of two. Sometimes referred to as Jailer’s keys or Jailhouse keys. Used, metal, one key is single bit and the other key is double bit, solid barrel, oval bow, quantity of two(2) keys on one ring. The ring is 3-1/2” round, metal, brass colored. Keys are 5-5/8” long, and the bow(loop of handle) is 1-3/4 inches wide, the bow on the other key is 1-1/2” These keys were common in both cabinetry and door locks in early Colonial America and remained in common usage within the United States through the 1940s. I do not know how old these used metal skeleton keys are. Heavy weight, heavy metal, weighing 9 ounces total of both keys and ring. Rare 19th Century Antique Brass Key Ring With 11 Skeleton Keys
Up for auction is a unique rare 19th century brass key ring with 11 Skeleton keys. The key ring has a patent date of Nov 11. 1879 engraved into it, and is in excellent working condition. The keys are 19th century as well, some are made from solid steel and some are brass. They were manufactured by Yale, Sargent, Lockwood, Norwalk, and S. McKay. One of Yale keys has the date of Dec 23, 1878 engraved on it. Both of Sargent keys have dates engraved on them as well: Dec 16, 1864& May 16, 1888. All of the keys and key ring are in impeccable condition for being 120+ years old or older.
