Beautiful Antique Oak Door Vintage around 100 years old Interior Exterior Description: This vintage oak door features a beautifully crafted skeleton key lock. Sorry the door knob was nowhere to be found. I'm sure you can get a replacement knob and a universal skeleton key. I don't see any reason why the lock wouldn't work. I don't know for sure how old this door is and carbon dating takes way to long. But I would guess it is around 100 years old. It came out of a house that was built around 1904; I would say that is a fair date for the door as well. Condition: There are a couple of nail holes in one side; it looks like there was some type of rack attached to it and a hasp for a lock too. Also on one side the varnish is tarnished. But the door is solid and does not have any signs of rot or cracks. It could easily be sanded ... moredown and refinished. They just don't make doors like this anymore folks. Shipping: I would prefer a buyer pick up free of charge. But I can ship if for $100 via UPS ground to anywhere in the Continental 48 United States. The door is made of solid wood, has 6 raised panels and 1 glass lite. The glass lite installed is actually plexi glass. Unfortunately. We don't have any old glass this size. However, we could order a new glass lite(i.e. beveled, tempered, leaded, stained, etc. and install it, Email us for a quote. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Please email us for a quote. Condition: On the exterior side of the door. The top of the hinge stile, edge of the lock stile, a spot along ... morethe hinge stile and some pieces of molding around the glass are chipped. On the interior side of the door. The edge of the lock housing, bottom rail and the bottoms of the lock and hinge stiles are all chipped; the rail below the glass is cracked and 2 panels below the rail are cracked as well. Otherwise. This door is in very good shape with only surface scrapes, scratches, small nail holes-minor cosmetic blemishes, which would be removed during the finishing process or covered if painted. Quirks& Considerations: There is a metal cover in the place where 3 raised panels sit on the opposite side of the door. There are gaps approx. 1/8" between the hinge stile and the rails and panels. The gaps are filled with wood putty. Which is starting to crack and chip. Causing the gaps to be more visible. All of the molding around the glass on the interior side of the door was replaced by a previous owner. The width of the door was unevenly cut by 1/8" at some point. Most likely to accommodate for a warped floor or settling foundation. We could remove the metal cover. Even the width, install new molding and fix the gaps. email us for a quote. The door is made of solid, old pine and is painted on both sides. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. The door has an arched top with 4 raised panels on both sides. Quirks& ... moreConsiderations: The door originally had a 5th panel at the bottom. But I believe that it was removed to let a pet cross between rooms. We could make and add a new panel- email us for a quote. The height of the door is slightly uneven. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir and is painted on both sides. The door has 2. Arched"tombstone" style windows with ORIGINAL, wavy glass-incredible to think that it survived for well over 100 years! The glass has bubbles, dimples, and the charming, uneven"wavy" surface that only antique glass has. Below the windows are 2, vertical raised panels. Also, notice the beautiful, bold applied(raised) molding on the exterior side of the door-what a great accent! Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. The glass is secured with glazier's putty on the interior side of the door. Most of the putty is still intact. But a significant amount is missing. Glazier's putty is inexpensive and could be purchased at any hardware store. Many carpenters and window installers could do the job within an hour or two, and once cured(hardened) the putty could be painted. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Also. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. Antique Colonial Cast Bronze Exterior Entry Door Set Lockset Knob Plate Lock Key
Penn Antique Restoration. Antique Colonial Style Cast Bronze Entry Door Set Lockset. Elegant. Original, antique, exterior door lockset salvaged from Southeastern PA. The set includes 2 bronze knobs, 1 large bronze escutcheon with swinging keyhole cover, 1 bronze rosette, 1 bronze keyhole cover, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 1 working key, 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 set screws. All bronze parts are solid, heavy, cast bronze. At the point of salvage all parts were dirty. Partially painted, and unevenly tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've cleaned and polished all parts to the best of our ability. You could tell that the hardware came from a well-maintained home because the set is in great shape! The parts have nicks and scratches. Which are typical for hardware this old, but no breaks, ... morecracks, gouges, or chips. The lock was opened. Inspected, and WD-40 was sprayed on and around all parts to facilitate their movement. A key was made especially for this lock, and we could make more for $6/key—let us know if you are interested. After the auction. Someone removed the buttons from the lock faceplate. The buttons controlled a function. Which disabled/enabled the knobs to turn. With the knobs unable to turn, the upper latch remains extended, in the locked position. In essence, both latches would act as deadbolts and provide extra security. Once the knobs are frozen, and the door is shut, the only way to retract the upper latch is by using the key for the top keyhole. I'm certain that whoever removed the buttons, didn't have the key for the top keyhole and he/she had to force the door open in order to push the button, to enable the knobs to turn. If this were my set, I would remove the buttons as well, and this is not only because I'm a parent of a young child who couldn't help himself from playing with the buttons; but accidents do happen. This pine-I believe door is 84" tall by 39 1/2" wide and is 2 1/4" thick. All original hinges. Knob, latches etc. There is plenty of wear from use. This needs refinishing. It is structurally sound as is the frame. The trim as you can see has some cracks/breaks that need work or just get new trim. I will build a special long pallet for this. The door has a solid pine core covered with 1/4" thick, quatersawn oak veneers on the exterior side, and 1/4" thick heartpine veneers on the interior side. The door is painted on both sides. Please note that heartpine is the non-living. Core of a pine tree, and not the soft, outer, living sap-wood. Since it takes 30 years for a pine tree just to develop just 1” of heart stock it is rarer, harder, more durable, more insect& rot resistant, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and is much more valuable than the cheap, pine lumber that is commonly found at most hardware stores. Also, please don't think that"veneer" ... moremeans inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/4" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door could be sanded and refinished several times before the door would need to be re-veneered.
