These are a work of art ... moreas well as fireplace andirons. They are circa 1820 to 1830 and have much artistic detail. Each andiron is topped with a flame finial in brass. The base of each andiron has much detail including figural bust. Floral, scroll, classical architectural swag. The rear legs are cast iron. Each with a Pine Cone Finial. The andirons have a Paw Foot. Each andiron measures 19" tall x 9 1/2" wide x 19" deep. One cast iron leg where attached to the brass column base has had some work at some point in time possibly creating a minor crack in the seam and the rear adjusting bolt on each leg has been replaced with older bolts. There is a minor ding in the large ball of each column but otherwise in very good condition and stunningly beautiful. These are in as found condition. Not cleaned, with great patina. Please look at the pics to see the beauty of these andirons. These andirons have an old Livingston Antiques. Charleston SC tag on them. We were told they have been in storage there for many years before coming from a Charleston estate. Rare Pair Federal Brass Andirons Figural Flame and Pine Cone Finials Paw Foot NR
We are very pleased to be able to offer for auction this Rare Beautiful Pair of Federal Period Brass Andirons with No Reserve. These are a work of art as well as fireplace andirons. They are circa 1820 to 1830 and have much artistic detail. Each andiron is topped with a flame finial in brass. The base of each andiron has much detail including figural bust. Floral, scroll, classical architectural swag. The rear legs are cast iron. Each with a Pine Cone Finial. The andirons have a Paw Foot. Each andiron measures 19" tall x 9 1/2" wide x 19" deep. One cast iron leg where attached to the brass column base has had some work at some point in time possibly creating a minor crack in the seam and the rear adjusting bolt on each leg has been replaced with older bolts. It is a hand forged wrought iron fireplace hearth crane and set of andirons. We think at least from the middle of the 1800's. We know some of the history of these items. They came from the homeplace when the fireplace was refurbished and an fireplace insert was put in place. The hearth crane was removed and these andirons were no longer needed. We think it was made by the original owner of the land and builder of the main part of the house. The fireplace was part of the original cabin. The house has been built onto over the years and remodeled by multiple owners. We think the original cabin was built by a man name Leonard Dangerfield born in 1804 and he was a gunsmith. ... moreHis son Thomas. Who died in the Civil War was also a gunsmith. I would like to first point out that there is a piece missing on one of the andirons- it's the piece that goes into the hole in one of the hinges. Super Cast Brass Antique Fleur de Lis Andirons, France or England, amazing set
This is a really nice set of antique andirons. Cast brass, most likely French origin, circa 1800s, with heavy Fleur del lis motif- lily or iris FDL finial, heraldry emblems in shield or crest, banner and crown, with skirted legs and a very unique reeded ornamental curving leg and ball foot. The detail is quite nice. The braces speak to age and a potential blacksmith mark is noted on one. Maker and origin cannot be determined. Regardless. This is a fabulous set of andirons and peening may suggest an earlier late 1700s make. Additional pics are forthcoming. These andirons are mid sized and not as weighty as many sets with large. Heavy braces. They were cleaned and restored about 10 years ago. The brass patina is slightly more mellow than these pictures show. There is no damage other than the customary wear and tear of time- the braces are particularly ... morereflective. The 18" long supports are cast with a style number"2911" on the side. The supports are good and solid and can double as a log support within the fireplace. They hook securely into the andiron front and complete the shield cast underneath the column. No cracks only very light surface rust on support arms only. These are extremely rare due to the original red trim painted on the pieces. i cant give exact age but they were rescued from a home built in the1800's. Pair of 19th century cast iron figural andirons of a draped cherub balancing a basket of flowers on his head. The figure measures 13 1/2" tall and 7" wide. The support is 17" long. From a local estate, the cast iron figures have been painted gold. The iron surface of the figures is pitted- these may have been outdoors for a long time. The figures are posed to look like they each have one arm behind their back. One figure was broken across the chest and was later repaired. The support on the back of one andiron is permanently attached, probably by a blacksmith. Someone went to a lot of trouble to save these andirons! Even with the flaws, I think they are very attractive and would enhance a room with a touch of Victorian Neo-Classicism. A nice ebayer emailed us that they are probably English. Bob's Template Up for sale is a nice set of Brass andirons. They are 18" tall 19" deep and 8 3/4" at base foot to foot. Signed ECR& R CO. I do not know the actual age. What you see in the pictures is what you will be getting. Please note that the Post Office has done away with Parcel Post and now they call it Standard Post. They have also raised the rates so that the cost to ship Standard Post in most cases is the same as Priority mail. It is my goal to find the best and least expensive way to ship my products.
