They were made by the Markel Electric Products Company in the 1930's. The back of each wall sconce is signed M.E.P. Markel Electric Products) And the socket has the name Markel on it as well. The original paint is still present on these fixtures as you can see. Both lamps come with the original finial. They have been tested working however they still have the old wires so you may want to have them replaced. Each wall sconces measures 4 1/2" x 9" and they project a total of 4" from the wall. For your consideration a pair of older Mission style exterior wall sconces. These are old exterior lights but not from the beginning of the 20th century. And as old as they are I believe they were reconditioned at some point. Some of the copper tabs that hold the glass have be replaced. The glass is also newer and probably replaced. I was told by the person I bought them from that she brought them east from Pasadena when she moved. It seems at the least they were hand made in California in the mid-century? Up for sale is an almost pair of high style aesthetic mirror sconces. AS IS. They are made of brass plated cast iron. I have seen others in brass. The better one has the candle holders and also has the retailers stamp on the back! Henry Birks& co. The shades are correct period prismatic leaded Holophanes marked E7. This shadeholder style was used 1905 through the teens. The last picture shows this sconce in a 1912 Peters catalog with a different shade choice-Peters did not market Holophanes. A few of the Holophanes have flea bites on the ribs no worse than the one by my thumb in the last picture. These items are old and used but in good recondition so do not expect new. These sconces were designed to fit over a sink or vanity. This wall lamp has been washed, paint and most dings removed, and waxed. The canopy bell is 5 inches in diameter and will cover a standard outlet box. The wall sconces ... morestick out about 9 inches, they are about 171/2"wide and 11" top to bottom. Old Hand Wrought Iron Wall Candelabra Sconces French Fleur-de-lis Gothic
These French candelabras are made out of wrought iron in the Gothic style with a Fleur-de-lis design. I am not sure about how old they are. But the construction looks crude and they have a great patina. This pair did come from a 1920's mansion, but not sure if they were original to the house. There is a hook on the back to hand them up. The shades for these are prismatic leaded glass period correct Holophanes marked E7. A few of the shades for these sconces have rib fleabites no worse than the one by my thumb in the tenth picture. But don't really stand out due to the design. The worst is pictured. I also have some of the satin E7 Holophanes(see the last picture) and I can ship you those instead-contact me for availability. These shadeholders were used from about 1905(patent dated) into the teens and not seen after WW1. This is vintage pair ornate double candle/light wall sconces/fixtures. The pair are a heavy. High quality, and ornate pair of vintage wall sconces. Each sconces is beautifully designed and have to lights that would come out from the wall. I believe that they are brass by their look and due to the fact that they are non magnetic. But I am not 100% sure. Each piece measures approx 10" tall by 10 3/4" wide and would stick out from the wall approx 6 1/2" Both of the sconces are in very good to great condition. I do not see any damage other than some normal age and usage wear. There should have been prisms hanging underneath the light arms but I am sorry to say that I do not have them. With all vintage lighting I would suggest getting the pieces rewired. I have taken a few photos so that you may see the condition and the true beauty ... moreof this wonderful light fixture. Chippy gold gilded metal that is covered with clear Murano glass. Florets throughout. Adorning rare bubble gum pink opaline drops and beads. All in good shape, not missing a thing. Wiring looks good, but should be checked anyhow. Measuring approx. 8"L x 9"W. Projecting out 7" All in good shape and not missing a thing! This auction price is for one pair of these matching sconces. They are 19 teens-mid 1920's wall lamps with period antique solid(not cased with clear) milk opal glass shades. The sconces have been cleaned and waxed and should match rubbed bronze hardware quite well. The brass has not been painted and will only get better with time. Look closely at the pictures. There are some very minor dings but no damage that stands out. They are old not new. T he Paulding porcelain and brass paddle switch sockets are new old stock and have a strong click that will outlast any that are currently made. They stick out 5 1/2" and the back plate is 4 x 6 inches. They are 12" from ... moretop to bottom. The antique shades are period with a deep crisp embossing unlike any cased with clear that are made today. There are some flakes on the fitter rims as pictured but will not be seen. Everything is brass that shows. I added hardware, ground, and period wire. These shades are very well done-probably Czech-and although they appear to have been painted on the inside-they actually are a cased glass with burgundy colored powdered glass sandwiched inside plus they are very thin with a ground lip. Some bands of black were hand painted on the outside after blowing. In the second to last picture you can see a small area on one where there are some spots of overspray that I did not scrape off the black band ... moreof paint(turn to the back) They have been cleaned and there were a few paint chips missing that needed to be touched up. They are old not new-I have left the original wiring and socket insulators(these were not used very long) but I will send them with a new pair of insulators. Both switches work well and have been tested. They only stick out 5 1/2" and the back plate is 4 1/8 inches in diameter. They are 9 1/2" from top to bottom. The shades are crack and chip free except for the flakes on the bottom of the one pictured(will not show) and this might be minor roughness from manufacture.
