Up for auction is a nice Hawkeye Lightning Rod Ball. This is a very light blue color. Almst white but not quite. Please view photos carefully. There are a few chips on the base of the ball rim and the top but are in overall good condition. These are over 100 years old so usually they have a few chips around the rim. See photos. This is an old antique medium purple lightning rod ball. It measures 4 1/2" across and the rod hole is 1" It is in great condition with no cracks or breaks. The collar rings do have normal age chipping as shown.There are some bubbles in the glass th at is common with old glass. There is a little residue inside from being out on the roof for years. Antique Barn Lightning Rod w/ Stand & White Milk Glass Ball ~ Old Rustic Decor
Up for bids at auction: Up for bids is this antique lightning rod with its original white glass lightning rod ball. This old rod was salvaged from a turn of the century era barn that was being taken down here in Southern Iowa. It has a good stand with no broken feet and the old copper rod carries a great looking old weathered tarnished green patina. The glass ball is a Milk White slag glass type with lots of swirls and texture in the old glass. The ends of the ball are a little worn like they always are. But no major chips or cracks. As you can see in the pictures the rod does not go all the way down to the bottom of the stand and is broke off at the bottom- it was that way for years and seems to be able to stand that way. Overall. Height from the feet to the tip of the stand is 56 inches tall. The copper rod is 36 inches long and the glass ... moreball has a diameter of 4 1/2- 5 inches. One of them is near pure white and it’s embossed National on the front. It has some damage to the top edge which is common on these pieces. The other has a purple tint that might just be from 100 years of sun exposure and it’s marked ELECTRA on the front. There is a slight dent in a little part of the rod near the top halt, nothing that takes away aesthetically or structurally.but I got to mention it on eBay. Also the glass ball is dirty. It can be easily cleaned, I just did not have time. Besides ... morethat the glass ball has bubbles in it, that is the way it was make.it is old and since it is screwed into 3 wooden pieces, it makes a wonderful architectural statement in a home. Vintage Lightning Rod w/Ball & Directionals. Nice Small Size! Folk Art Whimsy.
There is no reserve on this great old lightning rod. Up for auction is this great small-size lightning rod with ball and directionals. We don’t know the age for sure. But we think the 1950’s. It was probably assembled. Due to its nice small size, it would fit anywhere in your home, particularly since it is mounted on a handsome piece of beveled mahogany. Unfortunately, someone started to put two screws in the bottom of the base and they raised the wood underneath the bracket a bit. The blue 8-sided ball with indented belt is in good condition with no chips or cracks, but has some normal roughness along each hole. There are no identifying marks except for“11-A” on the roof bracket. The directionals appear to be aluminum sitting atop a copper collar. There is one small tab missing on the underside of the E-W directional. We wonder if this whimsy ... morewasn't assembled to mark the passing of an old barn. More and more of these grand old structures are giving way to metal clad pole buildings in the American Midwest. Please study the photos as they are your best guide. The measurements are: base is 16" x 6. From the bottom of the base to the top of the spike is 19 ½. The directionals are 13” across. We only accept PayPal as payment.
