Pair of Large Antique Cast Iron Finials. Architectural Pieces Up for your consideration are these really great looking architectural pieces or fence/post finials. I am uncertain about their original use. Certainly topped off something. Has a lovely design which mimics a tree or waterfall. There is old green paint on both of them, there is a small post on the bottom of each which are kind of rough but solid and each post has a small indentation on each side which may have been to secure them in their place when they are pushed into a base, there is slight rust on each, they measure 5" tall with the post, 7" long and range from 1/2" to 3/4" deep. This is a large lot of antique wrought iron fence with ornate detail. This is from the civil war era. It is in restorable condition. The finials are mostly. If not all there, the fence has an overall rusty pitted patina. The iron is light gauge as was typical of the era. There are some bottom rails that are rotted. These are replaceable without ruining the authenticy of the design. This can be sandblasted and painted. We are selling this as one lot. If you need only part, please email us. Dimensions: 3 ft. Vintage Cast Iron Carriage Horse Head Bust for Fence Post Cap Here is a great piece for your horse lovers out there. Would make a great addition to any collection. Recently picked the piece up at an auction This piece was made originally to set on a fence post as the head piece and it obviously did somewhere before I picked it up. Was rusty. But not too pitted from the exposure to the elements for some decades. Just gave it a good spraying with WD-40 to protect it from further corrosion. Nice detailing on the horse head. The horse is all harnessed up ready to take someone for a carriage ride. The cap the cast horse is attached to acts as a great base for the piece and has nice decorative detailing on it as well. The piece with the way the cap was made for the piece sits nicely on any flat surface. Does not need to be on a post. Just would ... moreneed to protect the surface it is sat on from the roughness of the cast iron. This is a very heavy piece. There is some sort of maker/model number on the back of the bust where it joins the base. Appears to be BO 160907. Only damage I see to it is a small piece of the cast iron hanging down from the yolk simulating a leather strap lost some of its' end. Chip to the front of the horse's right ear, and some minor chipping of the corners of the base. The cast iron horse head and base stands 17.75" tall. 5.25" across at the base, and 5.5" wide. The piece is about 6" wide when you take in the horse's snout extending further than the base. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. The white colored fence post has been sand blasted and primed but not painted or powder coated. The remainder of the fence is in original condition and should be restored before use. Fence gate works with a wonderful hinge(the base of the gate hinge has 2 vertical pins that rotate through the heart-shaped bracket on the fence post) Closure is by a tension bar with handle. The four large fence posts all have cast iron footings that are buried in the ground. They are removable and so for ease of photography I set one post on a construction stool instead of reattaching the footing in the photo of the gate. Fence has known provenance. Antique Vintage Cast Iron Ornate Architectural Garden Fence Gate with Posts
Please see all important shipping information prior to bidding! Up for sale is an Old Antique Vintage Architectural Garden Gate Fence with Posts. This came from a very old local estate; I'm sure it's over 100 years old. I was told that it was made by the old Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond. VA. It's a very heavy, wonderfully ornate decorative fence. It was encased in concrete at the house when I obtained it. There are J hook rods through the bottom of the posts. You could probably re-use them if needed, or just cut them off if you are using this for décor; as they are not needed for display purposes. This item is just the panel part of the fence. With 2 posts. There is NO door or gate function; this doesn't function as an actual entrance gate or security fence. As you can see from the photos, all 3 parts are separate ... morepieces and would need to be reassembled/put back together to make 1 full piece again. The posts are sort of loose and would need to be put back together. The finials are a pretty fleur-de-lis style. This fence would be used for décor or accent purposes. Cosmetically. The iron has an old, vintage, weathered patina. It doesn't get more perfect than this! It measures 4 feet tall and is 5 feet long. One arm is marked in raised lettering: MFG BY G M STUART- LYNN. MASS. The ather arm is marked PATD IN CANADA DEC 4 1889 and PATD IN USA MAR 4 1890. The curved support arm is stamped with a small number: 12. Weighs 10 pounds and 10 1/2 ounces. If you have a William Murphy- G.M. Stuart foot-powered miter cutter(pat. 422.688) and it is missing the fence, here's a nice one, ready to go! This may also be useful to someone witout a Stuart machine but looking for a heavy adjustable fence for a special project. The base has a projection on the underside that fits into a dovetail slot. The projection is 4 5/8 inches long and 2 1/6 inches wide and has a 7/16-14 threaded hole. ... moreUsed condition. Dark brown rusty patina with a few faint traces of grey paint. No thick rust. But scattered very minor shallow pitting in the iron. Faint milling marks are still visible over the full length of the faces and the underside. The two bolts on the adjusting arms do not match- I do not know which one is the replacement. Otherwise. Normal scrapes, scuffs, dings and dents. Everything moves freely. Ready to use!
