Up for bid is a vintage door knocker made in the shape of cat. It's back is arched and it is hissing. The pose of this"spooked" or scared cat is usually associated with Halloween. My first thought is that it is bronze because of the fine detail and reddish look to the surface. Upon looking closely one sees brass color showing on an ear and on striker plate. And also some brass coloring on underside. I did a bit of research on the differing characteristics of both metals and still can not decide. It may be a bronze finish on brass, but I still can not be sure. The underside is marked with the code 142 AC. I do not know maker or origin. But am guessing the piece may be English. Piece ... moremeasures approx 3 1/4" long. I have seen this size described as a bedroom door knocker. For use inside home or perhaps at an inn. Would be so perfect for use on small country cottage! Condition: Piece does show a bit of wear at the top screw hole where metal has been roughed a bit(a long time ago) It was once painted white over the entire piece. And this wear spot is still covered in white now. There are other remnants of white, mostly around the edges and underside. And some spots where a brass color shows through. Patina is quite nice. It is in fine working order good hinge. A wonderful old piece. Sorry I do not know precise age. Nice for those collecting cats and/or vintage Halloween! Vtg Carved Orange Jade Sterling Earrings -Drop Doughnut Door Knocker
Sterling silver bead and wires highlight rich orange jade jadeite earrings made c. 1980s. Two sided drop shape with off center hole. Lines(e.g. dentals) radiate from points around the hole on one side. Around the edge, to the hole on the other side. Pendant held by wrapped wire topped by a bead; jade is not drilled. Stone was verified on an electronic Presidium Gem Tester. Overall. Orange and translucent, but with areas of more opaque white and spots of black. Nicely shaped ear wires marked 925. For pierced ears. Total length is 2" of which jade is 1" long. Total weight 9-10 grams. Previously owned earrings show age and use in patina on the silver. Wear them as is for a vintage look. This is a beautiful. Old door knocker! Made of gilt bronze or very heavy gilt brass, this lovely door knocker features a finely detailed and dimensional lion face door mount. The knocker ringed section is very heavy as well and features a French or English barley type twist design. The piece is in very good condition with some patina in the crevices which lends to the aged character of the door knocker. It has a grand and stately appearance and feel. It measures 6.5" tall. Brass Door Knocker, Super Heavy 2 1/2 lbs!
