PRICED SEPARATELY. Antique Ceramic Dutch Tiles. In a pattern called, Tulips& Carnations. This is a traditional Dutch pattern in production since the 17th Century. The two tiles are manganese(amethyst) and white, with a luster finish, and measure about 5" square. Old mortar covers the back so we are unable to see any marks, but the tiles are precisely identified as 19th Century Dutch in the book, William Morris Tiles by Richard& Hilary Myers. Condition is very good with the back mortar mentioned. Some chipping on the edges, and the right tile has a corner repair, pictured. ITEM DESCRIPTION This auction is for a really stunning antique English tile. Dates to around the turn of the last century. Tubelined with an Art Nouveau or Secessionist design. Measures 15.3cm in diameter. Its in nice condition with just the usual natural light crazing. Small chip bottom left and top right corner, there is a small thin firing fault to the tublining bottom left done in the making of the piece and not later damage. Interesting Antique Victorian Aesthetic Movement Brown & White Floral Print Tile
Up for auction is an attractive Victorian Aesthetic Movement floral printed brown& white tile. This tile is interesting in that it is an identified Mintons design. However it bears the maker's mark for Lea& Boulton. It is possible that both firm's produced the same design or that Mintons have used blank Lea& Boulton tiles to print their design on. This tile is printed with a lovely design in dark brown depicting a central diamond decorated with an urn filled with swirling flowers and foliage. The remaining tile surface is filled with swirls of flowers and stems against a speckled background surrounded by a simple white border and an external brown border. Up for auction is a Victorian Majolica moulded tile maker unknown. The tile has a moulded pattern to the centre and corners. The centre depicts a floral shape within a square& there is additional scroll decoration to the corners. T he tile has a rich& glossy majolica glaze to the surface which is an a ttractive& unusual green colour with an almost grey or slate blue hue. Please note the darker line running vertically down the tile just to the right of the central line& the similar darker area in the lower third are all reflections and not staining or other damage. ANTIQUE. VICTORIAN, RECLAIMED, FLORAL, CERAMIC TILE Very attractive tile with four flowers on a background of smaller flowers and leafs and four geometric spokes that radiate to the corners. Back of tile has five parallel bars plus a series of numbers over ENGLAND that is in relief. Numbers are CB No. 305& 4? No. 21245? NOTE The tops of the letters in front of the No. 21245? could be RD. for registration If it is a Registration Number and was in the 21.000’s it would place date of the design in 1885, If it is in the 210.000’s it would place the date of the design as 1893. Since the design leans towards Art Nouveau(circa 1890– 1910) Best guess is that it is 1893. Tile is about 6 1/8 inches(155mm) by 6 1/8 inches(155mm) by 3/8 inch(10mm) thick and weighs about 15.25 oz(432rams) Tile is not cracked. Front of the tile is crazed& the top ... moreedge is in good condition, except for the minutest chip off of the top of one corner– see photo. Antique Victorian English Floral Tile Sherwin & Cotton - unusual glaze Lustre ?
Up for auction is a striking Victorian tile. Made by Sherwin& Cotton. The tile has a bold floral pattern across the whole tile surface in a reddish brown colour on a dark background which has a purple colouration but in sections looks almost black. This darker glaze is inconsistent across the tile appearing more purple in nature towards the tile edges. There is a lustrous quality to the glaze when it catches the light. Up for auction is an Art Nouveau moulded tile maker unknown. The tile measures approx 6 inches(15 ms) square. And just under 1/2 an inch deep. This tile has a fabulous large central image depicting a stylised flower(possibly a rose in bud) with associated foliage the latter arranged in beautiful sinuous shapes so typical of the art nouveau period. Rare and Beautiful 19thC Arts and Crafts Antique William De Morgan Tile"Daisy" This is a rare and beautiful piece of antique William De Morgan design- circa the original Pre-Raphaelite Arts and Crafts era. It is an original William De Morgan tile inset into a brass holder. Forming a decanter or teapot stand. The tile is impressed with the original. De Morgan and Co Sands End pottery markings. It measures 6.5 inches by 2 inches tall. Condition is very good. There is age related crazing and wear to the edges, but no chips or cracks that I can see. William De Morgan is now an icon of British decorative arts- his designs posthumously used on all sorts of furnishings. What a cool piece this is! Authentic Chinese roof tile from right around the turn of the 20th century. Depicts a flying horse(the Chinese believed the horse has magic powers) as evidenced by the cloud motifs under its body and hooves. Done in classic Sancai colors of caramel, green, black and the natural cream of the pottery itself. Seated upon a roof tile, this would have graced the roof of an important building. Still has some of the cement/mortar on the underside. May once have had a pottery tail, though I see no evidence of that. I suspect the tail was real horse hair, long since gone. That left an opening that the previous owner filled with raffia. I have to admit, it's pretty charming that way. This is a great piece, and very hard to find! Unsure of maker.
