Here is a white tile with brown art work from the Victorian Era(the close up photo is closest to the actual color) It has a large picture of an Iris and its buds and leaves. It is a 6" by 6" tile. Marked England on the back. There are also numbers on the back: 5050(in red) 0, and 91. There is a piece of paper taped on the back that gives this information: H. Richards 1902- 09. The dates 1902- 09 is also written in pencil on the back. The on damage that I can see is a chip on a petal of one of the side flowers. It is the one on the right as you look at the picture. Again, please look at the close up photo to see it. It blends in on the larger pictures, but it is there. Please look carefully at the photos for the best idea of condition and design. This would look so pretty framed or as a place to set hot pans. Truly elegant! This ... morewill not be sent in an envelope. This tile weighs almost 13 ounces(unpacked) I have been asked about the high shipping fee for expedited shipping and I know as a buyer. Makers mark on back.New Jersey(Old Bridge.Trent,Providential,Pardee,Maywood etc.and the Ohio River Basin(Hamilton,AETCO,Kensington,USETW,Cambridge, etc.and it's tributaries were home to many tile makers from the 1870's through World War one. These aesthetic tiles gave way to the arts and crafts and art deco movement,forcing many manufacturers to close. For many decades,these tiles ended up in landfill when a building was renovated. Awareness of the value in architectural salvage in the past couple of decades has saved much of what is available today. This tile measures 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" x 1/2" thick. Victorian art tile made by the Columbia Encaustic Tile Co. of Anderson.Indiana.Marked on the back. This tile measures 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" x 1/2" thick. Central flower with botanicals in a mint green and ochre glaze. Columbia tiles do not come up for sale very often and the"encaustic" part of their name may mean that that is what they primarily produced-unglazed encaustic tiles.This tile has a"hole" at the bottom right. It was a very dark spot that I ran underwater and it slowly dissolved and left this mark. No doubt a piece of organic material that made it's way onto the surface of the tileduring production and burned into the tile. Original early century tiles INTRODUCTION Attention the items you are bidding are ORIGINAL ca 1900 tiles. These tiles are part of the vast Victorian style spectrum. Tiles have not relief and have surface printed designs with naturalistic. Geometric images on them, colors are firm and well defined. These tiles are very suitable for a charming home interior decor, casual, romantic feel. English country style emphasizes coziness and our relationship with nature. These are the tiles to choose if you want an air of both distinction but also as fresh as a country cottage done in garden florals. ITEM DESCRIPTION Very attractive tile. Drawn in sepia transfer printed, subtile flowers and thorny tails, a perfect abstraction of a victorian garden. STYLE: Aesthetic(Late Victorian) TECHNIQUE: Manufacture: Dust pressed clay tile using a mould& horsehead ... morepress. Then burned. Decoration: surface printed designs. ORIGIN: England Either George Woolliscroft& Son or T&R Boote. MARKS: Each tile has a characteristic factory background some factories used stamped logos on reverse. DIMENSIONS: 6x6 inches each tile. Thickness of biscuit depends but usually is 0.33 inches aprox. APPROXIMATE DATE: Between 1890 to 1910 ITEM CONDITION This tile is in very fine condition. No flaws or repairs exist. Cement on reverse was carefully removed so minimal traces are remaining. Surface, as you can see, has a firm color and smooth glaze surface. Only minimal scratches and tiny chips may be seen, most of them on edges but that is hidden with grouting when reinstalling. Nothing for a more than 100 year old architectural piece. If you are buying many of them and you want a picture to have a look of the general condition no problem to supply. But image shown is well representative of tiles you will get. Mosaic Tile Company Tile Here is a very rare Mosaic Tile Company cuerta cerca red clay tile. Authentic circa 1920. This tile depicts a swimming fish. The tile has a thick matte green and blue glaze. It measures 4 1/4" square and 1/2" thick. The tile is in excellent condition only one small chip, barely noticeable, in the upper left had corner(see photos) Also, a small area along the side where the gray glaze was missed during manufacture(NOT a chip) The tile is signed on the rear with the old company embossed mark, and hand lettered"PATT 4116" and"DEC-240" Will be shipped insured. Covington, KY/Hartwell, OH 1886-1985 These are early tiles from Cambridge, before they acquired Wheatley Pottery, and have an interesting mottled pattern made up of shades of green, white and brown. Crazing is visible on the glossy surface. The listing is for one tile, but we have a total of 30 pcs, enough for a small project. Combine with other solid colored tiles, use as a border for an installation, make a tile table, surround a mirror, etc. Lots of uses. Good condition; have some edge wear; some have tiny chips. Antique Hand Painted Porcelain Tile Signed by the Artist.
This auction is for an antique porcelain tile hand made and hand painted. It is has frame like borders made in majolica style. It is decorated with a beautiful picture of a peaceful harbor with flowers and sail boats in a distance. The picture is signed in lower right corner with the artist's name which looks like Taffnis. But I could be wrong. The tile comes with a beaded wire ready for handing as a small picture on the wall.
