It measures approximately 8 inches(20cm) by 6 inches(15 cm) The TILE shows a young boy in sailor suit with his hand resting on his faithful ST. BERNARD DOG. There is a chip and surrounding glaze chips to the top rim and glaze chips to the bottom rim. There are also chips to the back of the TILE(please see photographs) There is no restoration. It has a heavy shiny glaze and there are crazing lines throughout. There are no chips or cracks in the tile. The tile has a purple and blue green sheen when viewed from the side. The pharmacist would take the active drug prescribed and mix it with an eatable ingredient to form a paste like substance. That the pharmacist could then roll into a snake like shape that would fit evenly in between the lines on the tile. Then the pharmacist would cut the snake like shape at ever line( the small lines) 6 lines between each number) this would give the pharmacist 6 small pieces or 12 or up to 30 small pieces that the pharmacist would roll into a small pill to fill the prescription for the patient. Beautiful antique Presse d Majolica Art Nouveau tile. Circa early 1 9 00's. In a very bright caramel color, tile is in very good cond ition with only a few minor flea bits around the edges. Very thick glazing with beautiful crazing from age, back of the tile has been cleaned. And there are the following marks"DESTERRO LISBOA" It measures 16 cm x 16 cm(6 1/4" square) I always t ry my best to combine shipping charges. IT IS MUSEUM# 1967.0205.001 HERE IS ALSO AN EXCERPT FROM THE GREENSBORO HISTORY SITE: Albert Gallatin. A partner in the Albert Gallatin Company, purchased lots in Greensburgh in 1795. On a trip to Washinton, D.C. he met a group of German glass blowers who were heading to Kentucky to form their own company. He urged them to consider settling in Greensburgh. The group settled in New Geneva in 1790 and the plant operated there until 1805 when it moved to the northern section of Greensburgh, later called Old Glassworks. By 1807 the quality of Glassworks Glass was recognized as superior throughout the country. Old Glassworks did a booming ... morebusiness and prosperity filled the streets of Greensburgh. Barrowman" Antique Blue and White Dutch Delft Tile Figures People of the Town This is a charming old antique tile. It is an example of Dutch Delftware the blue and white pottery decorated in a wonderful naive manner. This is one of several that I am selling which have personages and figures of the town. This one features a Barrowman. Wheeling a cart around the streets. It measures 5 inches in diameter. The condition of the piece is very good for its age. I cannot see anything that looks like restoration. The only flaws are small nibbles and cracks as photographed. I have included many photographs to give you a good impression of the pieces quality and condition. Do please ask a question if you would like further descriptions of specific parts.
