Offered here is an original(circa 1890-1920) cast iron Baby Chick, that has apprently lost her mother hen. Not knowing the exacting history behind this wonderful piece of cast iron; the little chick may have been part of an advertising sign or display at the regional grain store or farm/livestock jobber? The antiquarian farm animal(4 1/8" height x 2 1/8" base diameter) is open at the bottom, resembling what one may find with early fence post and garden gate finials. The early cast iron hatchling could possibly be put to use as a door stop; being quite hefty for its size. The antiquarian baby chick affords the farm collector, some very nice detailing from the top of her head to her little feet, wading through the grass. The baby chicken shows some obvious patina, predominantly at the base and collar interior/edges(see pics) There is a small hole at the toes of the baby chick as well. The antiquarian cast iron primitive presents very well as a shelf sitter or as a vintage garden accent.
