These antique iron door hinges. Mostly parts of hinges, were acquired at an architectural salvage auction. The auctioneer said they were removed from a 1920s Victorian home in SE CT. Please look at the photos carefully as they give the best description of condition. They are all in perfectly useable shape with some cleaning but as stated, are only parts so will need to be combined with other parts if they are to be used as intended. Since I took the photos I did combine two of the pieces to make a pair of which I was previously unaware. They are auction pieces being sold as is. The carvings are hand done with beautiful Louis XV period details. These doors were originally from an armoire and would make perfect pantry or closet doors. They are in very good antique condition with various minor chips. Scratches and cracks consistent with their 200+ years of existence. The doors are not square at the bottom but are hardly noticable and there is some damage to some of the metalwork on one door(see photos) T hey come with a complete set of 4 solid bronze hinges: both the parts that mount to the doors and the parts from the door frame. Penn Antique Restoration. 3 Antique Distressed Stanley Bronze Steel Ball Tip Door Hinges 4 1/2"x4 1/2" A ntique, door hinges made by"Stanley Works" of New Britain. CT around the turn of the previous century. Each hinge is made solid steel. Originally, the hinges were bronze plated, but much of the bronze has worn off over the years leaving the hinges with a great distressed look, which cannot be reproduced. All hinges have a 5-knuckle design with ball finials at each end, and 2 bronze bearings between the knuckles. We originally had 12 of these hinges. At the point of salvage. Some hinges were frozen, some were painted, and all parts were dirty and heavily tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've removed the paint, cleaned and polished the hinges to the best of our ability. however this only adds to the distressed ... morelook of the hinges. Of the group. These 3 were the most distressed. Although we cleaned them, they all have surface corrosion(pitting) which we cannot remove. Since the pitting is surface deep, it doesn't affect the structural integrity of the hinges. They are still strong, heavy-duty, and ready for another lifetime of service. For those who prefer a well-used, rough, industrial look, these are perfect! There are some small nicks and scratches here and there. Typical for hardware this old. There are also some scratches around some of the finials, which were caused by us trying to take out the pins using a pair of pliers. Otherwise all parts are in very good shape with no breaks, cracks, bends, gouges, or chips. The 2 hinges shown on top in the first 4 photos open so easily that you only need one hand to open them; the one below is not as easy and requires 2 hands. It's not difficult to open. The handle on one window latch and the two casters are porcelain. There are marks on the these but no cracks. The window latches turn. The hang hinge and other hinges and pieces are shown in the pics. And some of them we do not know their function. The little cast faucet has good threads in the connector but the handle does not turn. We believe it is made of brass. All pieces are offered and the bidder must discern their function as we do not know the names of all of them. 5 pics shown. I have a large set of three heavy cold pressed iron door hinges for your consideration. These are excellent vintage quality being made by National Manufacturing Company. There is some old finish and paint that would clean up nicely for a new finish. Might clean up decent enough for original finish use. Pins remove and hinges pivot smoothly for reuse. These are large measuring 5 x 5 inches. I have included many extra antique standard slot screws that you may want to use that seem to seat nicely. Some of these are brass. Vintage Antique Ice Box Refrigerator Door Hinges Latches Handles Nickel Brass
Nice Antique Hinges! I have several other items up for sale so please check out my other auctions. These hinges and latches were removed from an old wooden cooler door left in the basement of a late 1800's building. The hinges were completely covered in paint- now"mostly" removed. The paint appears to have preserved the plating nicely. Since only the door was there. The catches for latches and screws for the hinge ends are not included. Two of the hinges appear to have been filed down at the very back possibly to make them fit somewhere. The hardware is solid brass as is evident by the filed down parts. They appear to be Nickel plated. There is a slight bend and stress crack on one of the hinges(shown) which appears to be a factory flaw. The reason it appears as a factory flaw is shown on the opposite side as what appears to ... morebe a small weld under the nickel plate? The latches need new springs on the inside. Which should be easily acquired from a hardware store. The handles function nicely. And if desired, the springs would be super-easy to install- one screw! I will include the only(broken) spring from the two for comparison. The hinges have a one inch offset. and the straps measure about 4 5/8 inches long. The base of the hinges are about 2 5/8 inches long and about 1 1/8 wide. The latch bases measure 2 3/4 high x 2 1/8 wide. The handles are approximately 4 1/8 long. The latch box is about 3/4" high.
