Good old vintage cast iron is stronger and harder than the new soft reproduction stuff they make in modern hinges. Likely cast in the last 1880's to the early 1900's. These have a nice sharp. Clean and fancy casting. The pattern is also on the back of the hinge and shows when the door is closed. The hinges were stripped of all the paint and wire brushed. The hinges were sprayed with clear acrylic lacquer finish made by Sherwin Williams that is specially made for cast iron and exterior applications. This is a better finish than a hardware store spray paint. This clear finish has superior scratch and water resistance. Four Old Antique Matching Decorative Door Hinges
Four Old Matching Brass or Bronze Decorative Door Hinges These hinges measure just over 4 inches high by just under 4 inches wide. It’s not even a 1/16 over or under and it apparently isn’t metric either but I thought this might be important to a prospective buyer. The pins are removable and the opposite end cap unscrews. There is some old tape on the back of one. I don’t like to clean up anything I plan on selling so I just left it there. A magnet is attracted to these making them steel. Set#1: There is a 3/4" long break along the side of one of hinges. It's along the edges and is of no threat to the function or physical stability of the hinge. We applied a clear. Industrial-strength epoxy in between the cracks of the break and then clamped it overnight to restore the structural integrity to the area. Set#2: One of the hinges in Set#2 was missing a pin and it's lower ball finial. We found a pin that fit perfectly. But has a larger finial(about 1/8" greater diameter) tha n the rest of the hinges. We also found a finial to put in it's lower end. And as we were tapping it into the knuckle(barrel or shaft) it cracked the end a bit. Apparently, the stem was to thick to fit. 2 Antique Large Metal Barn Door Strap Hinges 27" long
Up for auction is a pair of large authentic vintage barn door hinges. They are heavy duty off set strap style with a decorative heart or acorn at one end. These hinges were purchased approximately 35 years ago in Oregon City. Oregon From a developer who had purchased what was then rural farm land. The old barns and buildings had been taken down and he was selling items recovered before deconstruction. I don't know exactly how old these are but I can tell you that the buildings had been there decades before they were taken down in the early 1980's. They have been sand blasted. Primed, and painted flat black with high quality enamel. They work superbly and are ready to be installed. The burrs around the hinge area were left for character. The strap is 24" long and with the hinge approximately 27 and 1/4" in total length and ... moreeach hinge weighs 4.7 pounds.
