Small Antique Victorian French Cast Iron Door Knocker ~ Hand Holding Apple
Cast iron door knockers can still be seen on French gates and chateau doors in the villages of France; they originated in the late 1800s. We love to dis play them atop a stack of old leather-bound books or on a shelf/table. An interesting paper weight for your desk. Too! This one is quite heavy and was once on a door of a French chateau. Once painted black it now is distressed with a lovely copper undercoat showing through. Measures 4 inches long from end of wrist to finger tips. The rotating hinge adds another inch in overall length. The hand is holding an apple that"knocked" against a door strike plate. This type of knocker you lift the canine and the weight of it strikes the back plate with that brass on brass tone. The item is approximately 6" tall x 5 1/4" wide and 3" deep to the snout. Approximate weight is a hefty 3 pounds 5.9 ounces. You can see various cast marks throughout the piece. It was cleaned. But not polished or coated. The patina is already returning, which I prefer. Antique, Georgian, Egyptian, Door Knocker, ONE OF A KIND!!
This is a VERY unique piece! SOLID. Brass, Antique, Georgian, Egyptian motif, door knocker. This knocker was purchased by my father in England in the 1960s and was on our front door. The Egyptian motif is fairly common but one this ornate and detailed is not. It is solid brass, measures approximately 9.6" long. There is no hammer plate with it but does have attaching screws. We have here an Antique Hand Hammered Solid Brass Dolphin Fish Serpent Door Knocker. It measures 11" tall. 4 3/4" wide and roughly 6" deep(that includes the screw) It will sit 4" off your door. This has no been cleaned. The dolphin has a forked spiral tail and its mouth is the knocker. The back is not marked. But you can see all the hammer marks. The front is smooth and detailed. Antique Cast Iron Door Knocker Male Figural Ornate Victorian
This is a rare find. It is a cast iron door knocker with a unique male figure and beautiful detailing. He is mounted to a piece of wood at this time with 2 screws. This appears to be a Victorian piece and is 10.5" tall. The handle is 5.25" long and is 5.5" at the widest point. I like him as he is but would also make a great restore. The original paint is mostly there; there are no breaks but a good deal of surface rust. I do not see any pitting.

You can easily place this lion on the wall and it will be a fantastic decorative piece or a curious object for a museum of interesting antiques. This auction is for an old Victorian style brass turn door bell with the face plate that is very ornate. This sale is only for the bell side of the unit as there is no twist knob portion. Lots of patina on the brass some rust on the inside and gears skip every once in a while so I am selling this as a parts only bell. It does ring though. It is extremely decorative and substantial and must originally have graced a very grand château ... moredoor. The knocker is a heavy hammer held with a hand. The quality of the casting is such that the fingers are visible on the back of the handle. The back plate is crested with a phoenix and below this is decorative scroll work. T he centre of the back plate is a circle featuring an armoured crusader on a magnificent robed steed. His sword and crested shield is clearly visible and he wears an impressive helmet. Around the edge of the circle is an inscription but the passage of time has eroded the detail and I cannot read it. Over the years the bronze has taken on a fantastic uniform green verdigris finish. This would polish off back to the original bronze colour if required. There are 3 holes on the back plate for attaching to a door. Solid Brass Antique Door Knocker - Knight with Shield and Sword on Horseback
This very unusual door knocker is comprised of two solid brass parts. A human leg shaped striker and a strike plate cast with an image of a knight on horseback surrounded by the Latin words"Siggilvos Gerardi de Gant" which roughly translates to"Seal of Gerard of Ghent. Gerard of Ghent was a Belgian Templar Knight who was also known as“Gerald the Devil” His castle still stands in Ghent: Gerald supposedly earned the“Devil” nickname due to his habit of killing his wives so that he could remarry; something he was rumored to have done five times. The castle is now used by the city of Ghent as administrative offices and archival storage. I suspect the door knocker is somehow connected to the castle. Perhaps it was a souvenir from Ghent. For your consideration is this beautiful cast iron door knocker made by Hubley. It has lost it's cold paint during the last 90 years but is still very useable and in very good condition. The iron can use a waxing to get rid of the rust. It measures 4.5 by 2.75 inches.
