Here are two antique brass(or bronze? metal is non magnetic and they are heavy) andirons that resembled an abstract pair of dogs. They are slightly different in size. And one has a bit of damage to the lovely design on the bottom(see photos) There is an old repair on it that has come loose but can easily be re soldered. They measure approximately 10 inches high and 9 inches long. Weigh 2 1/2 pounds each and have a nice patina. They are in as found condition. This listing is for a pair of andirons that are cast iron with the design embossed. I saw some similar to these fire dogs called"Hammered" But I don't know if the design is cast in or carved or hammered. They are cast iron and are quite substantial. Translation- Substantial means heavy! The andirons were rescued from an old. Defunct antique store in the Detroit area. To my eyes. They look very nice as they are, but. There is a bit of a shiny. Metallic sheen in parts of the uprights. I don't know if it is a plating or just patina of age. I did not try to polish them up. Choosing to leave that decision up to you. I do not know how much is plated& how much is not. The only other things I can think to add to the description are- There is the number 200 cast into each upright The log carrier arms are held on by old-timey ... morescrews and square nuts. This is a beautiful set of matching decorative andirons for your fireplace or display. I'm not sure of the makeup of the gold colored metal-it could be iron with a gold finish. Or it might be brass. Pair of vintage/antique forged iron fireplace andirons. The height is 19" Depth is 19" and width is 12" for each. The weight of both is approximately 24 pounds. Lots of spirals and curlicues, plus an interesting triangle handle top. No markings of any kind, which leads me to believe these are very old. Have not been cleaned, sanded, oiled or painted-they are in the condition that I bought them from a country/farm house sale. There is surface rust which is not unattractive, but they could be restored with some elbow grease. Very well made, unusual, and in very sturdy condition. The bow in the pictures is held in place with a nut and bolt. There is no bending, dents, dings, rust etc. What I know about them: These were given to me in a box after me Grandmother passed away a few years ago, she was 92 and collected or saved her antiques. The box was stowed away in the garage and hadn't seen the light of day in over 60 years I'm told. My Grandparents owned/operated a bed and breakfast in a small Northern California town they took over for my Grandfathers parents when they passed it on. After my Grandfather passed away in 1954, my Grandmother packed up, sold the business and moved away. I occassionally use USPS for lightweight items if it is cheaper. They are 20.25" tall. 12" wide, and 13.5" deep. They weigh 9 lbs. 3 oz. and 9 lbs. 1.5 oz. They are from the late 1800's or early 1900's, but I was unable to figure out who made them. They have eagle claw feet, roman columns, a 14-sided shape, and stylized flames. Each brass element was cast separately. The twist in the cast iron was forged by a blacksmith, but the vertical piece at the end was soldered on. The brass has a lot of light scratching and patina from age, and there are several small chips in the brass. I wiped the dust off, but have not polished it. Set of brass cannonball andirons manufactured by The Harvin Co. It is my understanding that Harvin made these for Virginia Metalcrafters and Colonial Williamsburg and are a reproduction of an 18th century design called Hampton. Andirons do show signs of use as there are some scratches and discoloration. Especially on the back closest to the cast iron legs. Overall they are in good condition and look beautiful. The feet are shaped like lion paws. I believe they are brass or brass finish although they are a bit darker on top. Almost a bronze color. Great condition with minimal wear. They have the wonderful green verdigris patina that only time can give. Approx. measurements are 13" tall. 7" wide and 16" long/deep(front to back) Weight is 6 pounds each. Vtg Set Virginia Metalcrafters Dolphin Andirons Brass & 3 Fireplace Tools Rare
From a recent estate sale. This is a fantastic brass and wrought iron fireplace set made by Virginia Metalcrafters. They are signed in the back of the andirons under the wrought iron dogs. They are done in the stylized form of dolphins. The main dolphins are brass and the smaller dolphins are cast iron. Even harder to find are the original tools. I have 3 of the original tools with no stand. They also have stylized dolphins that perfectly match the andirons. I have not found the mark on the tools, however, I am sure they are correct for the set. Someone tried to polish an area at the bases of the brass andiron dolphins. No actual damage, the fronts of the andirons can swivel partly as well.

For auction is this pair of early French and Indian War– Revolutionary War period hand wrought iron andirons with three-piece construction and faceted gooseneck heads. The column. Arched legs, and log extension are mortised construction. The feet of andirons from this period are often burned short from long use in the coals and portions of these feet are missing. Prolonged use in the hearth fire has allowed one of the log extensions to bend and split exposing the longitudinal fiber and grain of the wrought iron. These fireplace andirons were probably present for the 1st Fourth of July celebration. They measure 14 1/2 to 15 inches high x 7" wide feet x 12 3/4" 14 3/4" deep. This is a pair of Ornate Brass ANDIRONS marked H.B.P. from an estate in Green Valley. AZ. They appear to be in the Victorian style and measure just over 21" tall x 9.5" wide at the base. The grate iextends back 16" I was unable to identify the maker. Each is made of four parts: the iron grate and the frontpiece of base leg, midsection and finial.
