VINTAGE Copper Brass FIREPLACE Screen Door Cover ANDIRONS Chainmail Doors
Very nice looking 31 x 38 inch copper fireplace screen with matching andirons. The irons look to be brass but the screen frame is probably copper. It's not heavy enough to be brass. i don't think. We recently got it from a pretty nice looking estate and got to see it in place. When installed it does look great. But it is a little lighter then I would have imagined. It IS old and built well, just not real thick. I suppose it is mean't to be installed and or connected to the fireplace in 1 way or another. It does have legs in the front but they are also thin copper and look to move/ bend in and out of place easily. I don't think they where mean't to support it but do so for the pictures. The screen has chain pulls on the side of the frame and does work but will require a little grease on the sliders(last picture) The Andirons ... moreare pretty nice as well but still lighter then I had expected. They measure 17 inches deep( into the fire place) and 19 inches tall. Each one is freestanding and fits well into the provided screen holes. Nice touch! FIREPLACE POKER SET IN NOT INCLUDED. These are heavy duty and stand a wopping 21" tall with a depth of 16" There is a very old repair on one foot but it is sturdy and appears to have been there for many many years. These will be disassembled for shipping with one nut on each side. Up for consideration is a pair of 19th century Hand made or Hand Wrought Iron and Brass andirons. They measure 28 1/4 inches tall by 11 1/4 inches wide with an overall depth of 23 inches. The depth of the back part that holds logs would be about 18 1/2 inches. These pieces show a little variance between the two as with all hand made pieces. One andiron is missing its curved foliate piece under the leg. Please see photos. There is a small crested shield on the bottom covering the area where the feet meet. One pair of antique cast iron andirons salvaged from a circa 1810 home in Lexington Ky. about 30 years ago. The back portion where the logs sit was badly mangled and the salvage company torched that portion off and then brought them to me to replace that material. They never came back to pick them up or get a price for the work and they went out of business years ago so here they are. Each andiron measures 21 inches high, 10 inches wide at base, and 22 inches deep. Bradley and Hubbard made the finest iron products in America during the mid 19th to early 20th century. The partnership of Nathaniel and William L. Bradley, Walter Hubbard, and Orson and Chitten Hatch began in Meriden, Connecticut, in 1852 as Bradley, Hatch& Company. Clocks were the sole product of the newly formed company. When the Hatch brothers sold their interests in the firm two years later, Nathaniel Bradley, William Bradley and Walter Hubbard formed a company which they named simply Bradley and Hubbard. 19th Century Italian Brass Andirons
A house of true tropical architecture. It had fifteen-foot ceilings, ten-foot doors, long open galleries with the dining room and kitchen on the ground level and a sweeping circular stair rising to an observation platform on the roof more than thirty feet above. The platform in Hawaii would have afforded him a view of the sea and the incoming ships, but in Marshall it afforded him a view of his daughter's across the street. The staircase, an architectural wonder was made of ebony, teak, mahogany, and maple. The walls were covered with murals depicting the flora and fauna of the tropics. Colored glass panels flanked the front door. Originally intended for the Honolulu house in Michigan. The pair were bought in Waikiki in 1992. Up for auction is a pair of antique Hessian soldier andirons possibly dating to 1800s. These stand approximately 20" tall and 19" long and are hand painted cast iron.
