I got this elegant pair from an Antique Dealer that just moved here from New York. So these must have been a pair he dragged here with him, as they are clearly marked WMH Jackson Co NY and dated Dec 08, 1908. Sorry the flash and the poor lighting where I took the pictures made it hard for me to get some good shots of the marks. In one of the photos the iron even came out white, which is not, it is dark. Each measures approx. 20" tall by 7 1/2" wide by 21" deep including its cast iron arm. VERY heavy solid brass and cast iron. This is a stunning a pair of vintage brass and cast iron american bald eagle fireplace andirons. they are very ornate and very nice quality pieces. the finials are large made from solid brass in the shape of very detailed american bald eagles. the andirons are beautifully footed with brass claw feet and have a stylized shell design in the center top of legs. the bottom half of the shaft is squared and made from cast iron with nice detailing. the top part ids made from brass and has nice ball shapes with ribbed detailing. they are both in great shape measuring 23 inches tall by 7 3/4 inches wide and 17 1/2 inches back to front. Please scroll down under this description for additional views. Circa 1860 decorative cast iron andirons. 13 1/4" high, 7" wide, 17" deep. The decorative faces depict putti or cherubs holding a basket of flowers on their heads. Clasically inspired, they are wearing just a cloth diagonally across one shoulder and barely covering their privates. They are not missing an arm, they were cast this way- the putti might be modeled after some ancient statue or fresco that also had that missing limb. Both are painted metallic gold and the cast iron underneath looks rather pitted. One of the putti broke in half and has a very old repair across the chest. The same andiron has a blacksmith's braze of iron repair on the back that permanently joins the fire log support with the figure. Pair of elegant Early Antique Brass Andirons* Ball tops on baluster shafts. Spurred cabriole legs and slipper feet with conforming brass ball-top log stops. Wrought Iron Supports. They are in un-polished condition and would shine nicely if the buyer decides to do so. I was unable to locate, or identify a makers mark though it is possible there is one under all the soot build up or elsewhere. As you can see in the pictures the wrought iron beams are entirely hand forged. They measure 13" High, 9 1/4" wide at the feet, and 15 1/2" Long(measurements are slightly rounded since they are both slightly different) The top ball is about 2 3/4" diameter.
