Antique 18th Century bronze US native fur trade crucifix cross
This bronze crucifix was recovered from an 18th century ship-wreck off the coast of Red Bank New Jersey by underwater explorer Nelson Jecas. The cross is 2 15/16" x 1 15/16" They were made to trade to the country's natives this specimen never made it to trade. Proof of authentication can be witnessed in a Google search and video. See episode 111 regarding Treasure hunting in America. You will see one of the crosses he recovered. The cross is in good condition. It looks like steel in the photo because of the dark patina. It does not have magnetic properties.

For your consideration is a bronze bouquet. Neoclassical design with hand blown sandwich glass insert and ormolu finish on marble base. Piece is unmarked but believed to be attributed to Henry N. Hooper of Boston, mass. Another of these pieces are on auction at Waldman and Waldman. Henry Hooper was an apprentice to Paul Revere and later bought his foundry business. Known for his bronze work, made first life size bronze statue, chandelier in white house and many cast bells and lighting pieces. Later in life Hooper produced large cannons in his foundry for the union during civil war. This is a work of art and a piece of history. Printed on bottom- 5837 Enterprise Mfg Co Phila USA Pat Jan 20 1885 It has"save the tags" printed on the handle and base. It is black. With red and gold trim, the handle works smoothly.

I am calling it an effigy vessel or incense burner because that is what it resembles. It does say Made in Mexico on the bottom. It is in excellent shape except that there was a tail at one time which has broken off. See last picture.

Panama small vessel with cover.
All I can say about this is that it has some age. Has damage to the lid and is held together by string which is not original. There is some black decoration on the side that has now abraded or faded in most areas. If this was from Peru I would have guessed for Coca leaves but in Panama I don't know. It could very well be intended to carry plants of a mind altering use by a shaman. Or it could be Colonial and used for something much more prosaic. The base measures three and three quarters by about one and three quarteres. Cover is one and three quarter inch tall and a bit less than two inches in diameter. I would be very interested in hearing if someone has firm knowledge of what it was used for. Please ask questions and request pictures before bidding as this is being sold as is no returns. Terracotta Dog Vessel possibly Pre Columbian Colima ?

This motor has bean sitting in my friends Grandfathers Garage for Years.My friend said it still runs but I have not tried to start it yet. Rare Pre-Columbian Wheeled Jaguar Effigy- Toy Vera Cruz- Mayan Classic to Late Post-Classic Period 250 AD-1200 AD ~ please scroll down for more photos and information ~ SIZE: Length- 4 1/2” 11 cm) Width- 2 1/4” 5.5 cm) Height- 2 5/8” 6.5 cm) DESCRIPTION: Very rare Pre-Columbian ceramic toy or effigy with four wheels in the form of a Jaguar. Late Classic or Post-Classic Mayan or Vera Cruz Culture- Circa 250 AD- 1200 AD. El Salvador or Mexico. A number of these wheeled pieces are known and are thought to date from the Classic to Late Post-Classic Mayan Period(250 AD- 1200 AD) Various attributions for similar objects are to the Olmec. Mayan, Toltec, and Vera Cruz cultures, so maybe they were made by a number of cultures. It seems that it is not known whether these wheeled pieces were made as children’s toys, ceremonial effigies, or had some ... moreother purpose. Probably ceremonial, possibly burial pieces. This piece is hand-made and has all four wheels. It is in the form of a jaguar. With a long tail, upright ears, a detailed face and an open mouth. The piece appears to have four original wheels, but the axles(sticks) have been replaced since the original wood would long ago have deteriorated. There are traces of red paint on the face. The surfaces show. In addition to some traces of paint, darkening, light encrustation, old wear to the rolling surfaces of the wheels, and an overall aged darkened patina. There are several archeological or collection markings to the underside of the jaguar. As you can see in the photographs. This piece was purchased at a Butterfield and Butterfield auction in San Francisco about 20 years ago and was part of an old collection being sold. I bought it from the purchaser shortly after he obtained it from the auction house. It has been in my own collection since 1994. Archeological evidence dates human occupation of the area as far back as 1500 BCE. With sites here contemporary with San Lorenzo on the Gulf Coast and Tlatilco in the Valley of Mexico. One period of the area’s development is called the Los Ortices era, which began around 500 BCE. During this time the elements that characterize the pre-Hispanic ... morepeoples of Colima appear, including shaft tombs and a distinctive ceramic style called rojo bruñido, or burnished red. The next phase. Called Comala and centered on a site of the same name, was from around 100 to 600 CE. Comala people perfected burnished red pottery and created representations of people and animals with skill and fluid lines. The best known of these figures are known as the fattened dogs. The Comala site shows influence from Teotihuacan. Around 500 CE, another site in Armería developed along the river of the same name. The Chanal site was active from the 6th to the 15th centuries and was the main culture for the Colima area. Belonging to this culture was a number of smaller sites and most of the ones known and explored to date. After Chanal the largest related site is La Campana but most contain pyramidal bases and plazas with structures often containing rounded edges. Images of Huehueteotl and Tlaloc appear with this culture. Which may indicate the origins of the cultures that ultimately settled central Mexico. There is one other site called Periquillo. Pre-Columbian. Central Coast Peru, Huari culture, ca. 700-1000 A.D wood mask with patination. It may represent a living person of rank, an honorary portrayal of a deceased person used to accompany a mummy bundle, or an ancestor. Ancestor veneration would become a significant part of Huari religious practice The wide-eyed expression is similar to visages depicted on Huari ceramic vessels. The Huari culture began to develop during the late Moche era. The Huari culture, centered on a capital to the south of Moche territory in the central highlands of Peru, rose as the Moche culture fell apart and before the Chimu asserted themselves on the north coast. They had extensive contact with other regions in the Andes, most notably the Tiahuanaco in present-day Bolivia, and the Nazca and the Pachacamac on the south and central coast of Peru. Huge lot of old pieces of pre-columbian objects The story on these is my neighbors father who lived in Mexico in the 1940s found these on his land in an old dried out creek bed. they were not found by indians or on federal or state land he has had them for over 50 years here in Texas. I have no idea what they are some he has had hanging on his wall.The one mask piece has a piece of wire glued to the back. The smaller head piece has another small head carved on top,this one feels like a piece of rock the other pieces look like pottery, they have not been cleaned in any way. Pre Columbian 300-1000 AD. Copper casting with written history and photos documenting the casting. Purchased from the heir of the estate of Professor Wright. Written History documented by Professor Wright on the piece is as follows. This copper casting was originally collected by Professor Ray Burns somewhere between 1902-10. Burns was an early pre-Columbian lecturer. English professor and explorer. He was influenced by his cousin Lincoln Elsworth who in 1911 went with Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen to discover the south pole. Professor Burns spent much of his time exploring the Andes and Amazon areas. And. Because of his remarkable knowledge in the pre-Columbian field, he was hired by National Geographic Magazine to lead a party in search of the orgins of blackware pottery, which he eventually located deep in the Amazon River area.
