Very old Hispano-Moresque Spainish or Islamic dragon handle Lastre pottery vase
Best offer welcome. This beautiful vase measures 5.8" High by 6.5" wide. It is hand painted and has 4 applied dragon type handles. There is 1.8cm chip to the lip and 2 much smaller. There are also glaze rubbings/frits to the dragons and middle edge as shown in my pictures. It should be an easy piece to have restored. Good luck.

Situated on the Euphrates River in present-day Syria, had its first Islamic flowering in the late 8th century, when it was the residence of the legendary Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid. Raqqa experienced a resurgence during the late 12th and early 13th centuries, but was destroyed in 1265. Little is mentioned about Raqqa in Muslim sources after its medieval renaissance, but interest in the city was kindled in the West at the end of the 19th century, when curiosity about the Islamic world was inspired by travel to the Middle East and by the vast travel literature that came out of the region. Both have holes at base which are original( not drilled) and I assume are meant for ease in electrifying if so desired. Hispano morsque Islamic Designs in yellow. Blue, and green on an off while base glaze. Safi Pottery is very well desired. Specially early pieces which are so harder to find and rarely seen. Each bout 4 1/2 inches base diameter. 7 3/4 inches in height, with candle opening at about 1 inches. Both pieces signed"Safi" at base. This Islamic pitcher is beautiful and extraordinary. Pottery made with coils visible under glaze. We would guess it is from the 1920's. From the exterior design it would appear to have been used to serve wine. Measures approx. 3 3/4 diameter at base and is approx. 7 3/4" tall. Glaze crazing consistent with age. Interior hairline(approx. 2" does not penetrate to exterior and pitcher is secure. Felt on bottom is soiled consistent with age. But still securely attached. Antique? Vintage Persian Islamic Pottery Vase Hand Painted Leaves 10 Inch
I have had this vase so long that I have forgotten where I bought it. I probably bought it at an estate sale. I know that it is not new. I have about thirty years of experience with antique items but I am not sure how old this vase is. I am far from being an expert when it comes to Persian or Islamic pottery. The bit of research that I have done on the net tells me that this vase is very likely Persian and Islamic. I think that it is possibly old enough to be considered antique. I leave it to the buyer to determine how old it is and exactly where and by whom it was made. It measures close to 10 inches tall. The diameter of the base is about 3 3/4 inches. It weighs close to 2 pounds 3.6 ounces. The condition is much like you see it in my photos. You can see a small chip on the inside of the ring on the bottom that forms the base. There are ... morefine cracks in the glaze that are commonly called"crazing" There are some tiny holes in the glaze from when it was fired. There is an about 3 1/2 by 4 inch area near the bottom of the vase where the glaze has a whitish/hazy appearance from when it was fired. I have provided a close-up of the two edges of one of the small handles where it looks and feels like a tiny amount of glaze is missing and the surface is darkened. Otherwise. Up for auction is a very interesting Islamic pottery vase from somewhere in the Mideast. A friend of mine translates Islam and he said the creator's signature was Islamic(pictured#6) Its country of origin is unknown. The scene on the front of the vase center. Left& right d e picts a beaut iful city scape painted on a mauve background with colorful highlights fired on it(pictured#1.2, 3) There are even some birds flying from above the colorful city. The sh oulders on this vase are painted with a fine misty green(zoom in) It measures 10" tall X 6" wide from the top. I'm not sure of its age but it certainly has some age to it. It is in very good condition for its age too. As you will see from the photos. The design is cheerful. Charming, and simple but just a gorgeous thing to have in any collection. There is some islamic script or signature on the base and I believe the vase to be Persian in origin. The stopper sits happily on the top. But is very loose fitting so is more of a cover than a tight fitting top that a decanter stopper would be on a modern vessel. C.1850 This is beautiful mid to late 19 th century salt glaze jug or ewer from the Canakkale pottery producing region of Turkey. This example comes from the Ottoman Empire. And has a typically rich yellow and green streaked glaze with heavily incised sgraffito decoration; there is also some unusual zig-zag decoration to the handle, which alternates from glazed yellow slip to glazed bare pottery(see photos) It dates to around 1850-1880, and has two protrusions on each side, each of which has two holes– the purpose of these are unknown(they are not for hanging the jug from anything, as the holes do not go right through) This is a superb piece of antique ceramics. Multicolor decoration in olive green, cobalt blue, red brown, dark brown and yellow in typical aesthetic combination of soft pastel and bright colors. The glaze is crackled under close view. This piece is very old and has some age wear and glaze pinheads as shown but the colors are amazing and has almost a metallic glaze on some of the colors. The inside of the vase is very dirty as shown but the overall condition of this vase is very good with no breaks chips or repairs just the expect marks probably from the making. An ancient unglazed slip painted ewer. Central Asia Islamic period. 10th century ~~~ please scroll down for many detailed photos This rare ewer derives from an ancient pre-Islamic ceramic tradition of Central Asia and dates from the 9-10th century. It is repaired with some crude in-painting at the neck and some other areas of small losses. There are various chips and wear to the slip decoration. Below is pasted a description from a more elaborate example from a London auction in 2006. This piece came from Oriental Antique and Art out of Canoga Park. The use of unglazed painted decoration has its roots in an ancient pre-Islamic Central Asian tradition. Of which there are some important surviving examples, the most famous being the so-called Merv Vase, which was discovered in 1960 in a Buddhist monastery in south-eastern Gyaur-Kala. The decoration can be compared to that found on architecture from Gujerat through the Swat Valley to the Hindu Kush and Central Asia(Kalter, J. The Arts and Crafts of the Swat Valley, London, 1991, p. 64, figs. 76-7) Another vessel of this type, a jar on a much larger scale, was sold at Sotheby’s(Sotheby’s, Arts of the Islamic World, London, 27th April 2005, lot 89) The present lot was used for containing water and was probably used at special occasions.
