These unique plaques depict a male and female figure sculptured out of a turquoise and multicolor rock/pebble held together with a clear hard resin material. Each sculpture is in good vintage condition. The male figure does have a couple hairline cracks. One at the neck and one across the chest, that are only noticeable up close and do not effect it's visual appearance. Each piece is also securely fixed to it's wooden plaque. Each wooden plaque is faced with a dark wood laminate that does show slight peeling/crackling at edges. The backs have an additional three layers of laminate wood sheets which do show signs of lifting. I recently purchased this at an estate sale along with some other old bone carved collectibles. from Asia/India/MIDDLE EAST(please see my other ebay listings) I was informed that this is an 18th Century piece. But I am not certain. I also believe it could be South American in origina(Inca or Mayan Empire relic? but someone from ebay also mentioned to me that he felt it could be Asaian. The lake straddles the Guatemala-El Salvador border in a region which is the home of the Chorti Maya. The Chorti region also encompasses Copan in Honduras.
