AD103 Silver Roman Denarius (Coin) Emperor Trajan & Valor Goddess “Virtus” Spear
Silver Roman Denarius of Emperor Marcus Ulpius Nerva Trajanus(Trajan” with a Reverse Theme Depicting the Roman Goddess of Valor- Virtus” 103-111 A.D. OBVERSE INSCRIPTION: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P. OBVERSE DEPICTION: The bust of Emperor Trajan. Draped, right, laureate crown(laurel wreath) REVERSE INSCRIPTION: S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI. REVERSE DEPICTION: The Goddess“Virtus” Standing right with foot atop helmet holding pilum(spear) and parazonium(short sword) spear inverted in right hand, parazonium upwards in left hand. ATTRIBUTION: City of Rome Mint sometime between 103 and 111 A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 18 millimeters. Weight: 3.12 grams. DETAIL: This is a handsome and fairly uncommon silver denarius produced in the city of Rome itself sometime between 103 and 111 A.D. It is in exceptionally good condition. With only very mild wear from circulation in ancient Rome, all of the legends and themes very clear and distinct. It was exceptionally well struck both front and back, on a generous planchet(blank) The strike was well-centered, and so caught virtually all of both the legends and the themes, and this is applicable to both the obverse as well as the reverse. On the whole it is an exceptional specimen, the generous planchet and well-centered strike, combined with very low circulatory wear, likely placing the coin within the top ten percentile. The obverse of the coin depicts the bust of the Roman Emperor Marcus Trajan. Emperor Trajan is depicted draped with laureate crown and accompanied by the fairly complex legend“IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V PP” TRAIANO” of course refers to the Emperor’s name. There being no“J” in Roman Latin the letter“I” is used. Emperor Traja

I sell things for my friends my family and sometimes for myself. I do not know a lot about the items I sell. But try to give an accurate description and I will always return any emailed questions. Look at the pictures, they usually tell the story. This auction is for a vintage metal Roman Soldier statue clock topper with a marble base. He’s 13’ tall and his spear is 14.25’ the marble base is 7.5’ x 4.38’ x 1.125’ tall, and he weights nearly 7 pounds, he’s got quite the six pack abs, a handsome fellow with his helmet and not much else on, doesn’t look like what you’d want to ware in a battle so he’s probably an athlete, he’s missing his shield or whatever he had in his other hand. The finish is peeling off in spots and it looks like someone may have put a coat of varnish on the whole thing. Also known as Flavius Claudius Crispus and Flavius Valerius Crispus was a Caesar of the Roman Empire. He was the first-born son of Constantine I and Minervina. Crispus' year and place of birth are uncertain. He is considered likely to have been born between 299 and 305. Somewhere in the Eastern Roman Empire. His mother Minervina was either a concubine or a first wife to Constantine. Nothing else is known about Minervina. His father served as a hostage in the court of Eastern Roman Emperor Diocletian in ... moreNicomedia. Thus securing the loyalty of Caesar of the Western Roman Empire Constantius Chlorus. Father of Constantine and grandfather of Crispus. In 307. Constantine allied to the Italian Augusti. And this alliance was sealed with the marriage of Constantine to Fausta. Daughter of Maximian and sister of Maxentius. The marriage of Constantine to Fausta has caused modern historians to question the status of his relation to Minervina and Crispus. If Minervina was his legitimate wife. Constantine would have needed to secure a divorce before marrying Fausta. This would have required an official written order signed by Constantine himself. But no such order is mentioned by contemporary sources. This silence in the sources has led many historians to conclude that the relationship between Constantine and Minervina was informal and to assume her to have been an unofficial lover. However. Minervina may have already been dead by 307. A widowed Constantine would need no divorce order. Neither the true nature of the relationship between Constantine and Minervina nor the reason Crispus came under the protection of his father will ever probably be known. The offspring of an illegitimate affair

ROMAN SPEAR BUTT CAP WESTERN EUROPE CIRCA 100 BC GS
ROMAN SPEAR BUTT CAP WESTERN EUROPE CIRCA 100 BC TOTAL LENGTH 95 mm TIP LENGTH 35 mm SOCKET 14 mm WEIGHT 28 grams CONDITION cleaned/ conserved GOOD This is a ROMAN Butt Cap used to protect the end of the spear and for count weight of the spear head. It has a some socket seam deterioration that can be seen in photo. The only example of the square end butt cap I can find is to the Celts or the Roman Republic and with the smaller size of this I believe it to be Roman. An exmaple of this style of butt cap is illustrated in Bishop and Coulston's book on Roman Equipment. This has been cleaned with electrolysis and conserved with a thin layer of hot wax so no doubt about its metal stability. Even though it has some deterioration it is still a nice artifact to hold and admire. You can buy a rusty dirt covered artifact for less money but do not ... moreexpect to have an item of this quality when you clean it. To leave it dirt and rust covered will only hassen its deterioration. This has no repair of any kind to the best of my knowledge as is with all items listings unless stated. All of our items have been personally inspected and come with our 100% guarantee of authenticity. This would make a Great Addition to a Collection. Provided with a Certificate of Authenticity and Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity. Mars was the Roman god of war. The son of Juno and Jupiter. Husband of Bellona. And the lover of Venus. He was the most prominent of the military gods that were worshipped by the Roman legions. The martial Romans considered him second in importance only to Jupiter(their main god) His festivals were held in March(named for him) and October. As the word Mars has no Indo-European derivation. It is most ... morelikely the Latinised form of the agricultural Etruscan god Maris. Initially Mars was a Roman god of fertility and vegetation and a protector of cattle. Fields and boundaries and farmers. In the second century BC, the conservative Cato the Elder advised"For your cattle. For them to be healthy, make this sacrifice to Mars Silvanus you must make this sacrifice each year" Mars later became associated with battle as the growing Roman Empire began to expand. And he came to be identified with the Greek god Ares. Unlike his Greek counterpart. Mars was generally revered and rivaled Jupiter as the most honoured god. He was also the tutelary god of the city of Rome. As he was regarded as the legendary father of Rome's founder. Romulus. It was believed that all Romans were descendants of Mars.
