We’re happy to send you a summary of the differing conditions and prices we may have for the same title. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover(256 pages) Princeton University Press(2002) Much of the literature on ancient Egypt centers on pharaohs or on elite conceptions of the afterlife. This scintillating book examines how ordinary ancient Egyptians lived their lives. Drawing on the remarkably rich and detailed archaeological. Iconographic, and textual evidence from some 450 years of the New Kingdom, as well as recent theoretical innovations from several fields, it reconstructs private and social life from birth to death. The result is a meaningful portrait composed of individual biographies, communities, and landscapes. Structured according to the cycles of life. The book relies on categories that the ancient Egyptians themselves used to make sense of their lives. Lynn Meskell gracefully sifts the evidence to reveal Egyptian domestic arrangements, social and family dynamics, sexuality, emotional experience, and attitudes toward the cadences of human life. She discusses how the Egyptians of the New Kingdom constituted and experienced self, kinship, life stages, reproduction, and social organization. And she examines their creation of communities and the material conditions in which they lived. Also included is neglected information on the formation of locality and the construction of gender and sexual identity and new evidence from the mortuary record. Including important new data on the burial

Publisher: University of California Press; 1976) This second volume of new translations is designed along the lines of the first Volume. In keeping with the ancient view. It defines literature broadly so as to include monumental inscriptions carved on stone and literary texts written on papyrus. Where the first volume outlined the gradual creation of Egyptian literary genres in the course of many centuries, the present one shows the elaboration of the genres within a single cultural period, and in a relatively short span of time. The literary production of the New Kingdom was much larger than that of the earlier periods. Hence even a whole volume devoted to it can do no more than focus on the highlights. Moreover. In the New Kingdom both the monumental inscriptions and the papyrus texts usually ran to greater length than their Middle Kingdom counterparts. The selection made from the vast quantity of stone-carved inscriptions contains famous pieces along with some less renowned ones. Together they illustrate the principal topics that were deemed appropriate to the always functional monumental context. Similarly the works written on papyrus have been selected to show the variety of themes and forms. And to single out those compositions that we outstanding in their day and have retained a timeless inte

TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Chronicles of The Celts by Iain ... moreZaczek. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover with Dust Jacket: 159 pages. Publisher: Sterling Publishing Company. Inc. 1997) The Celtic world. As it existing in three separate countries with a common spirit and tradition; Ireland, Wales, and Brittany, is brilliantly revealed in these exciting epic chronicles with 120 evocative photographs of artifacts, manuscripts, and landscapes that bring the Celtic world to life as never before. Ireland, land of ancient warriors who value nothing higher than fame and courage as they battle magical forces pitted against them. Ancient warriors whose deeds are as noble and mysterious as the hill forts and standing stones scattered around the landscape. Ancient warriors whose love of exaggeration and boasting compare with the most extravagant blarney. These are the Celts revealed by the early Irish chronicles. Wales. A land of bands and druids hemmed into a beautiful, mountainous country where King Arthur roamed with his knights. The Welsh warriors saw themselves as defenders of the west, heroes who would one day hurl the foreign oppressors back into the sea. These dramatic chronicles date back to the Middle Ages, but they are truly much older than that. They tell of love and betrayal, of quests and challenges, of supernatural creatures and of murder. Battling dragons. Tyrants, and sorcerers, the warriors of Brittany were people of the sea. Hermits, missionaries, mystics, they passed down their tales of mystery and magic orally through the centuries. They are captured here from a time when the old pagan days were dying out, and the secret, supernatural skeins of the early mystical Celts were quickly attaching themselves to a new religion. CONDITION: New hardcover w/dustjacket. Unblemished except VERY slight edge and corner shelfwear to dustjacket. Pages are pristine; clean. Crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound, unambiguously unread.

TWO - 14.5" Graduated Strands, Ancient Roman Green Glass Beads- A.D. 400-700
This listing is for a set of two. 14.5" graduated strands of ancient Roman green glass beads, circa A.D. 400-700. Many years ago I bought a hoard of ancient Roman glass beads which are of a highly desirable green color. The beads have been strung into graduated strands and were put together so they could be easily finished as a necklace with the addition of a clasp. Or so the beads could be easily removed to use in making other items, such as earrings and bracelets, or mixed in with different types of beads in making jewelry pieces. These are scarce and very desirable Roman beads. Dating to circa A.D. 400 to 700. They are glass, which is much more desirable than the common terracotta or fired clay beads from this period. I purchased this group from a highly reputable dealer in London from whom I have acquired a great many hoards of antiquities, ... morefossils, and coins over the years. These examples both measure 14 1/2 inches in length. And the individual beads measure from 3mm to 6mm. Please look at the pictures carefully, since the strands photographed are the exact strands you will receive. I am offering these very interesting pieces for a bargain buy it now price just $29.95, although I personally paid considerably more than that years ago. I have enjoyed owning them, but it's time to let them go to a new home for whatever the bidding determines. NOTE: You will be buying a set of TWO strands. Both of which are pictured above. All items are guaranteed to be genuine and as described. We do not deal in any fakes or reproductions. If you have any questions regarding the authenticity of any of our items. Please contact me and I will do my best to answer any concerns you may have. Terms and Payment: I accept PayPal only. Within the United States. The pieces will ship by First-Class Mail with Delivery Confirmation through the U.S. Postal Service. Shipping charges are $4.95 for the first item and $1.00 for each additional item. Superb Extra Large Genuine Ancient Roman Antiochia Syria Glass Vial 100AD
Genuine Ancient Roman Iridescent Blown Glass Vial. CLASSIFICATION: Ancient Roman Blown Glass Vial. ATTRIBUTION: Eastern Roman Empire(Syria) 1st Century A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 80 millimeters(3 1/4 inches) Bowl Diameter: 11 millimeters(1/2 inch) Neck Diameter: 8 millimeters(1/3 inch) Top Lip Diameter: 16 millimeters(2/3 inch) Weight: 5.99 grams. CONDITION: Very good. Complete but likely repaired(professionally, probably by a conservator) Fairly uncommon style. Minor scratches and scuffs consistent with use and then burial in soil. Heavy layer of iridescence and soil deposits caused by prolonged burial in soil) DETAIL: This is a very handsome first century A.D. Roman blown glass vial of reasonably nice dimensions. Most Roman glass vessels recovered complete(intact or repairable) are between 1 ½ and 3 inches in size. This specimen ... moreis over 3 inches tall! It possesses a heavy(albeit patchy) iridescent burial patina which is silver in color with plays of green. Blue, pink and purple. Though you can see some of the original green-colored glass peeking out, the silver iridescent covering is quite striking, very beautiful, and relatively uncommon. These small jars, pitchers, unguentariums, jugs, bottles, jars and flasks were used to contain aromatic oils, perfumes, medicinal ointments, and cosmetics. It is not to say that the Romans did not use larger pieces of glass on their tables such as bowls and cups; and even larger containers for transporting foodstuffs; because they did. In fact whatever the Romans had produced in clay in the first and second centuries B.C. was by the first and second centuries A.D. more commonly produced in glass. However the larger pieces of glass are rarely found intact. The Romans for instance produced fluted. Engraved, multi-tiered, and cut glass bowls of fantastic quality and design– and only a few intact specimens have ever been recovered intact. In fact even the medium-sized pieces such as this, and even smaller sized pieces are rarely recovered intact except

Ancient Roman Glass Iridescent Squat Bottle / Flask -150 A.D.
A beautiful and charming ancient Roman glass bottle. Dating to the 2nd Century A.D. Constructed from translucent. Thick walled glass with flat, circular base, gently tapering body and wide, everted and ridged mouth. This bottle exhibits a pontil mark. Or glass-blowing scar, left behind when the piece was removed from the glass-blowing rod by the vitrearius. Or glassworker. The elegant shape of the vessel, unusual upturned base demonstrates the advanced glass-blowing skills achieved in the Late Roman Empire. The term'iridescence' is derived. In part, from the Greek rainbow goddess, Iris, messenger of the Gods. This stunning play of colours exhibited by some pieces of ancient glass is caused by minerals in the surrounding earth, forming tiny, flakey layers which build up on the surface of the glass and in turn cause the differential ... morerefraction of light, producing a magnificent rainbow of colours for the viewer. Height: 1 inches. Condition: Excellent condition. Unrestored. Age related encrustation. Provenance: Ex English private collection. TWO - 15 1/4" Graduated Strands, Ancient Roman Green Glass Beads- A.D. 400-700
This listing is for a set of two. 15 1/4" graduated strands of ancient Roman green glass beads, circa A.D. I purchased this group from a highly reputable dealer in London from whom I have acquired a great many hoards of ... moreantiquities, fossils, and coins over the years. These examples both measure 15 1/4 inches in length. And the individual beads measure from 3mm to 8mm. Nowadays there are a lot of ruins older than 2000 years in this region. I like ancient beads very much and want that other collectors will be able to obtain them without paying a lot of mone. That is why my prices are very modest. I lived in Asgabat city(the capital of Turkmenistan) over 30 years. About 15 km from Asgabat there is Nisa– former residence of Alexander the Great. And capital of Parthia. In most cases the ancient beads. Not only played the role of jewelry but also the status of the person wearing them. You were able to tell the social status of an individual based on the beads they were wearing, while other used these beads as talismans protecting themselves against bad luck and the evil eye. Certain beads that have zigzagging lines are supposed to confuse the evil eye which would get lost in these lines. Ancient Roman Double Bezel Bronze Ring with Light Pink Glass Gem 200-300 AD
About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About the Roman Rings Romans liked to wear big rings which drew attention and revealed the status of the wearer. A gold ring often contained a huge gemstone or Roman glass which was generally worn by the Senators and the bureaucrats. The common people referred as the Plebeians were allowed to wear only rings made of iron. However. Some Plebeians were awarded the right to wear the golden rings for their bravery or special service to the state. But gradually such stringent rules were relaxed during the reign of Justinian I. Women of ancient Rome were more inclined to wear multiple rings of varied materials and designs on their hands without the constraints of social classes. About This Ring This exquisite bronze beauty comes to us from the ancient Roman world. Its band is broad. Symmetrical and bears and very strong. It has two rounded bezels with two strong clasps each; one of the bezels are remained with only a small portion of the glass gem due to extensive ancient use and bein
THE PORTLAND VASE - ANCIENT ROMAN CAMEO GLASS
The Portland Vase. The Extraordinary Odyssey of a Mysterious Roman Treasure” By Robin Brooks. Published in New York by Harper Collins in 2004. DISCUSSION: The Portland Vase is a marvelous piece of ancient cameo glass. Intricately carved by modern standards, to say nothing of the problems it must have presented for ancient Roman glass carvers. Created for an Emperor, exhumed from a burial ground, coveted, traded, smashed, restored, and stuffed full of incident and intrigue, the Portland Vase- the most famous of all Roman antiquities- has captivated everyone who has come into contact with it. There was Fabrizio Lazzaro, the archeologist/tomb robber who discovered it, Pope Urban VIII who wanted to acquire it, the Princess of Palestrina who supported her gambling by selling it, the Duchess of Portland, who owned it in secret yet gave it a name, ... moreJosiah Wedgwood, whose intricate copies finished the job of immortalizing it, the madman who smashed it to bits, and the restorers who managed to piece it back together. all those figures, and more, dance across the glassy stage. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 6"x8.5" 250 pages, black& white illustrations, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: Minor wear. But otherwise clean and nice, with a tight binding.
